I have read the books and in the books it shows that he has feelings and fleshes him out more.

and as everyone knows, if a work can't stand on its own two feet, it can always be saved by putting out multiple companion pieces in a different medium to plug the plot holes and fill out the one dimensional characters.

Everyone knows the real character of the game is the shotgun...everytime I'm walking around I see the shotgun right in front of me and I'm pulling the trigger and I'm killing the n00bs.

ANyone that thinks that killing off the Master chief wouldnt make a difference only likes Halo, H2, and H3 becasue they like sootin stuff 2 bits. Halo is more than a game, and the masterchief is deffinatly not plain machine. Hes also not just warrior. In the books, the Chief didn't think that there wasnt anyother outcome besides wwinning and losing until he met Captain Keys. Keys told his the third outcome was PEACE. And even though he does fight, and kill... he does remember all his fellow spartans that have died fighting, and he knows that peasce would be bett3r... so only violevce freaks that like shootin would post a forum that announces that killing off the Chief wouldn't make a difference. Besides, in the books- Cortanna had a choise to which Spartan she wanted to be with- and guess what?!? she picked John, Spartan 117, the mc, so stop playin halo if all u care about it war, and guns. Halo iznt made just for ur pleasure- its made to make a point.

wtf are you talking about???????? master cheif is a main character and he knows some stuff that the other spartans dont know about. like all the missions that you have played in halo and halo 2. other spartans dont know between good and bad. they will probally go and kill the elites because they dont know that they are on our side. so it think that the master cheif should not be killed off because that would mess up the story line

He has made a point in the way it would have been great to have a more developed, central character, instead of watching 117 spearhead the narrative via first person, and simply draw behavior out of other characters. I was never very fond of stories told without backgrounds given of their main characters; how much deeper would the story have been if you had seen the Lisa shot to (near) death in the hangar? How much more compelled would you have been to complete the game, and avenge that falling of your brothers? These are what the Spartans are - brothers and sisters, and I hate that they haven't given you any taste of what his past was like, growing up alongside these people from childhood, only to end up being one of the few survivors. While I do appreciate the way the books have supplemented poor character development, I wouldn't be such a fanboy as to call the story of the Halo videogames deep, though i do sincerely like the game, a lot.

I'm looking to be suprised in Halo 3, with a deeper, more satisfying ending that leaves most questions resolved. Finality - that's what everyone wants from this last game.

So, tell me again, why is everyone so concerned with his s3x drive? We are mostly guys, I guess. ha.

Oh god. I hate when people try to shove things like "inner-demons" into games. If you do that its just a drama cliche which is what i hate THE MOST out of all things. You know why the MC is who he is? Its because hes KICKASS!! If you dont understand that, then there is no hope for you...

i'm with Marvin, kid. Grow up; learn not to take every questioning of your favorite video game's integrity so personally. You responded like someone had just called your mom a prostitute.

Meh ... just call them Spartan 1 and Spartan 2. Hot swap 'em during a cutscene where Spartan 1 dies, Spartan 2 comes in, Growls, and continues the game in EXACTLY the same way you would've played with the MC. Most people just skip the cutscenes (or go grab a sammich) so it really doesn't matter much.

dear god, no. anyone that doesnt care about the halo story shouldnt have a say in what should or could happen. Master chief stays, for reasons i will elaborate upon later.

also, to the person that said continuity doesnt matter anymore, you sir, dont pay enough attention to the story to be able to say what should or could happen either. sargeant johnson did not die in halo 1. he has boren's disease, which screws up his nervous system. the flood hijack your nervous system by interfacing with it and taking control of your body. now when the flood infection form that latched onto johnson tried to interface with his nervous system, it couldnt, because it was all screwed up. sargeant johnson eventually made it to a pelican and made it off halo. he was picked up my master chief shortly after the halo blew up. cortana could nto detect him because their engines were off.

master chief has as much personality as you put into him. WE decide who we want master chief to be. he has no face, no appearance, no nothing besides a voice and a suit. this allows us to place any faace, any body, and almost any personality we want into him (i suppose nobody understand storytelling devices anymore). also, if master chief were to die, i would almost undoubtedly cry. we've been through so much in halo 1 and halo 2. to see his journey through the series and to see him die at the end, i would definitely mourn the loss. master chief is more than a suit. he's a hero of the human race that is standing up for all that's good in the world. he isn't a mindless killing machine.

also, halo was popular for more reasons than just fun gameplay. the gameplay is nice, sure. the multiplayer is great, but the real reason halo is so ggreat, to me at least, is the storyline.

You discredit yourself in telling us that we choose whatever 117 can be, then proclaiming him yourself, as hero, someone who is standing up for all that is good in the world, like your opinion is definitive of what he truly is, but he is still what we want him to be. Its either one or the other; the logic you're using is all too circular. What if I want him to be a mindless, savage killing machine who could care less about humanity, but simply is following orders, as that could be argued, who would be right? Great storytellers have engaging, consistently upheld characters in which they define them, not the readers, or gamers, in this case. And who are you to say who can or can't have a say? A lot of things have the potential to happen that you wouldn't like in the last game.

My gametag is not sparda34b, it was an error, gamertag is Sparda3b.

Then obliously you don't listen to the storyline and yes it would matter a lot as he is the main charecter if you did't know.

Or you could go buy a PS3 and play crappy anime games. They have tons of character development... AND NO ACTION.

Maybe you guys should go back and play the games if you don't think the Chief has a personality. Think about it for a second: would you be surprised if the Master Chief's new armor was a pink tutu and he kept on giggling every time he killed something? It would be out of character for the Chief to be behaving in such a way, and you know it. Therefore, the Chief has a character, accept it.

You know what you can expect from the Chief in Halo 3. Every little thing he does screams badass, from the way he walks, the way he stands, to the way he talks. His dialogue is blunt and to the point, stoic and bold at the same time. He says more in a few words than most characters say in 50 (think of when he said "Boo" to the room of Covies and the unforgettable "Sir, finishing this fight." line).

Do you remember the cutscene where he was dragging the bomb and then riding it in space? Go watch it again and pay attention to his body language, then go watch Johnny Depp's body language in Pirates 2. Maybe then you can come to appreciate Master Chief's aura of strength, courage, and unspoken determination, the way he keeps his emotions in check and remains totally calm and collected, unphased when there are rockets whizzing past his head and the whole freaking universe is falling apart around him. How's that for personality? Would you rather have some cartoon rabbit with a cheesy catchphrase?

Oh and if you're looking for some angsty teenage love story emo junk, go watch a soap opera. However, if you pay attention, you'll realize that there is some -blam!- tension between the Chief and Cortana, and it's extremely well-thought out and original. The twist is that Cortana doesn't have a body, so they can never consummate their affections. She's a voice in his head but nevertheless she's his female counterpart, she was made for him. I dare you to find a more poignant moment in any romance movie than the scene where Cortana and the Chief parted ways at the end of Halo 2.

"Cortana, I'll.."
"Chief, don't make a girl a promise, if you know you can't keep it."

It sounds much better than it reads, go watch the scene for the fantastic voice acting.

So how can you say that the Master Chief is a hollow character? He cannot be replaced so easily at all. There is a world of depth to the Chief that you miss if all you do is XboxLive.

And the reason they wouldnt kill him off is because of Halo making refferences from the Bible.

The Arc (from the bible): created to save people from the flood that lasted 42 days and 42 nights or something like that.

The Arc (from Halo): Used to stop the flood.

Halo (bible): Around angels head. In a perfect cirlce and floats in the air.

Halo (game): Objects in space. Float in mid-air.

John: Reffered to in the bible and also the main character of the game.

They won't kill him off given those facts and the point that he doesnt die until the end of the last book anyway.
