No, they are not. Do not be fooled, you can not kill anyone in the book aside from ripping their name off the page.

I own every Halo book that has came out ('cept for the Strategy guide and mod books) and I loved all of them, and can't wait for the 4th one. It was hard enough waiting for the Graphic Novel, which I've currently read 1 and a half times. Bottom line if you don't read the books then you won't know much about Halo and you'll be missing out on a good experience.

The books help see how things are the way they are (Like how the PoA got to Halo, or why there was only 15 Covie ships in Halo 2)

Also, they explain the likely things to come in later games (The 9 remaining Spartans aside from Chief, Brutes, Battle Rifle, MAC Stations, Johnson surviving)

Anyone who says the books aren't good because yo ucan't kill anything should not play the campaign mode, and stick to multiplayer. They're the same people who will get mad at the likely inclusion of more spartans ;)

What you people seem to be forgetting is that the game isn't affected by the books.

Of course, but everything from both the games and books come directly from the Halo bible -- meaning they're the exact same story.

Do you know howm any things we first saw in the books?

Spartans
Master Chief
Truth
Tartarus
Hood
Johnson surviving
Harper

Battle Rifle
Magnum
Brute Shot
SMG
New Armor

Dual Core Reactors
Covenant AI

Dual Wielding

Linda?
The Pillar of Autumn?
Cryo Chambers?

Ringing any bells? I hate ignorant people. The Fall of Reach came out before the first game.

You have free time... do you spend it or save it?

yeah, they are an even better story I think, I love Reach and Unyeilding Hierophant, those are some of the best settings in Halo

Harper is the Fleet Admiral in the UNSC, second in command to Hood; Admiral of the Navy

He is heard in the first level of Halo 2, Hood tells him to bring the fleet back and protect the MAC Stations (also introduced in the books..along with High Charity) rather than engage the Covenant.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

the books are fantastic. the fall of reach really set the tone for what the spartans have been through and the state of mind of all of those involved in the situation on halo. the flood was great because it was like i was reading about exploits that i had already taken part in (read the book after beating the game). and first strike is pretty freakin awesome so far (1/2 way through, started yesterday) and it is bridging the gap between halo and halo 2.

not to mention the importance of really knowing and feeling what everyone is going through (if you really get into it that is). the books rock.
