Why? Why my friend i am about to explain in full detail.

*PLEASE read everything before deciding to post something that says its just another sacrifice theory just like the other "billions" of ones people have posted. Thank You.

I did some reading (particularly Revelations) and analyzed some key elements in the read. I found some odd and intriguing similarities to the book of Revelations and a possible Halo 3 Plot, or ending.

First of all lets clear up some things.

Revelation, also known as The Apocalypse, depicts a consummation toward a theme of Redemption.

Redemption can be defined as such (note that i am taking one of many definitions used):

Christianity. Salvation from sin through Jesus's sacrifice.

This is much like the many theories about MC sacrificing himself to save the Human Race. And as we all know, Gravemind said himself "I am a monument to all your sins." So taken into point, assuming this all goes together, we can say that Jesus (John) sacrificing himself , will offer Salvation from Sin ( Flood )

Salvation can be defined as such( once again please note):

1.Preservation or deliverance from destruction, difficulty, or evil.
2.Deliverance from the power or penalty of sin; redemption.

So there is something basic and easy to digest.

MC dies, saving us from Flood, and extinction.

Now to the deeper stuff.

As we know, MC is programmed to save the human race in any way possible. Sacrifice would be completely necessary if it would save the human race.

A quote from Revelation 1: 5 - 6

"...To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom..."

They are of course referring to Jesus' sacrifice for humanity

Another quote

Revelation 1: 17 - 19

"...Fear not, I am the first and the last,...I have the keys of Death and Hades..."

The keys of death and Hades...hmmm...

The Ark can be translated into Death and Hades in that both signify Death, the dead, the end of life

So MC has the keys to ..."The ark"

but you say wait, this doesnt make sense! Why would MC want to activate the ark? That would destroy the human race!

I too thought of this. Could MC be forced to destroy everything? I didnt think so, so i looked further...

Revelations 2 : 1 - 2

"...him who holds the seven stars in his right hand..."

Seven Stars? More like Seven Rings if you ask me...

Its a play on words...Holding the Seven Rings or Halos in your right hand, means that the fate of the Halo's is in MC's Hands. So one might say that at one point in the plot MC will have the power to activate the Rings, or choose not to...

But still i looked on...

Revelation 3 : 10 - 11

"...I will keep you from the hour of trial which is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell upon the earth..."

This quote pretty much speaks for itself. One can make the assumption that this is referring to the activation of the Ark, and that MC will "keep us from the hour of trial"

Well this is natural...assuming MC is supposed to save us, this is nothing new. This is where it gets really interesting...

Remember those "keys to the ark" i was talking about? In these quotes the ark can be viewed as "something that can be ""unraveled"": a Scroll...

and the word "throne" can be depicted as the position of power that can activate the ark...

you'll see

Revelation 5: 1

"And i saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll...sealed with seven seals; 2 and i saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?" 3 And no one was able to open the scroll or to look into it,...5 Then one of the elders said to me, "Weep not;...he can open the scroll and its seven seals..."

So once again, this brings back my point that MC will have the power to activate the ark...

What if activating the Ark somehow didn't kill the humans? Somehow they were protected? I don't know for sure, but i needed more evidence for my hypothesis...Which is that MC will save the human race, and will have the keys to the Ark.

Then i thought, well him having the keys to the ark doesnt necessarily mean he would use them! He merely would be keeping the keys away from the Covenant!

And yes, i continued to search and search and search for more visual clues...

Then i stumbled upon what i believe to be a visual reference to what we saw in the trailer...

Revelation 6: 12 - 14

"...I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winger fruit when shaken by a gale; the sky vanished like a scroll that is rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place."

If infact in the trailer we saw the ark being activated, only one conclusion can be drawn...The earth gets destroyed, everything gets destroyed, humanity ends...

unless it wasn't real? yes.

Now some background info.

In revelation, John is given the great blessing of seeing the world's end.
Does the name John have any signifigance to you? In case you don't know, its name of Spartan 117...more commonly known as Master Chief.
The end of the world is revealed to him...a revelation. This makes sense if we take into consideration what cortana says at the end of the trailer...

"This is the way the world ends." Sounds like a revelation to me, quite similar to MC being shown how the world would end if the ark was activated...

Now i'll explain another play on words..."Under the Alter"

Under the Alter was another way of saying sacrificed...

In Revelation 6 : 9-10 it includes...

"...I saw Under the Alter the souls of the martyrs..."

Souls of the Martyrs....MC dying for a cause...Arbiter dying for a cause...not only dying...sacrificing themselves for a cause...HMMM

Now this is where the Prophet Truth comes into play...

Revelation 9 : 11

"They have as King over them the angel of the Void, , his name is Apollyon."

I believe the "Void" is the Covenant.
Before this, a plague of locusts came out of the "void", followed by their "King, Apollyon"

And as most of us know, Apollyon was all about destruction, and destroyed much of Earth, a third to be exact. So Truth is destroying most of Earth, probably to get to the Ark.

I believe the Arch Angel Michael is a reference to The Arbiter, or MC. I havn't quite decided which one...

But either one makes sense when you read the following...

Revelation 12 : 7-8

" Now war arose...Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon (Truth or Gravemind), and the Dragon and his angels fought. But they were defeated and there was no longer a place for them..."

If you say Michael is the Arbiter, the The Arbiter's Angels would be the Elites, Grunts, Hunters

If MC is the Angel, It would be the humans...

but i think the Arbiter...

anyways!

Revelation 12: 9-10

"The dragon...and his angels were thrown down...and I heard a loud voice saying..."Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom...of his Christ has come...for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down...they loved not their lives even unto death."

many things can be deciphered from this...

most notably are thsese:

1. "Accuser of our brethren" i believe the Arbiter is saying how Truth betrayed the Elites and grunts and hunters...

2. "They loved not their lives even unto death" I believe this refers to Truth and the Prophets striving for their "great journey" in complete disregard for their own lives, as in they new they were going to die.

Revelation 14 : 1

"Then I looked, and lo, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand..."

-Master Chief and the last remaining Humans/ marines

Then of course we all know The armies of the Beast and the Dragon are vanquished...

A similar theory could be tied into this general idea, assuming Jesus represents the Arbiter and that the story of revelations is the Arbiters fight against the covenant.

Well there you have it! im compiling more later, i just ran out of time for now, so expect improved revelation theories soon!

O ya, if you have an idea of what something else could represent, please feel free to post it.

PLEASE EVERYONE its merely a theory, im sorry if reading this offended you in any way, it was unintentional, and i am just expressing my opinion.

I just want to point out that what you have just written has been written by about a billion different people already, and that everytime one of these pops up VERY intense flaming is found.

In the Words of ICEMAN ASSASSIN "I hope you're wearing your flame suit"

I believe i noted that when i said "This is very much like many of the other MC sacrificing theories...the point of this post is not that my theory is that he is going to sacrifice himself, it is that Revelation offers CLUES as to a deeper plot in halo 3. Are you sure you read the entire thing?

We've been here since you left.
We left before you came.

I'm more impressed on how much extensive research Bungie went into the bible, and how many little clues they left.
