I was recently thinkings about the brief period in which a few people posted in all itallics, trying to fill the void left by the color removal. A mod (maybe it was dmbfan) put a stop to that, promising a stiff banning for all those partaking in it. No one (I believe) has done it since.
Couldn't that, theoretically, be done to colors? Bang out some rules for them (no entire posts in color, no "invisible" nonsense, ect) and enforce them harshly? A couple week or so long bannings would have everyone respecting the color use as they respect itallic, bold, and underline now.
Yes, it may seem like the trade-off is unfair. More work for mods, only superficial enhancement for the site, but you could say the same for any of our text enhancement tages, couldn't you?
Yes, it would throw off our current mod/Bungie worker "easy identification" system. You could remedy this by making it impossible to post in those colors, and colors resembling those. Or you could just make it bannable offense. People won't be posting in all color anyway.
Pros
* Emphasizing things
* Creating flags and other such things in sigs.
* Allowing for more creativity when writing stories.
Cons
* More work for mods
And you could solve that con with a simple, strict set of rules.
Yes, I know, we already have a strict set of rules for the forums and those are still disobeyed, despite enforcement. The only things I can offer are that maybe it's because those rules (like spam and flames) have grey area, and the color rules wouldn't. Or what about what happened with the itallic feature?
Please offer feedback and your own pros and cons. Thanks.
