Each time someone stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. That hope is three little numbers: 1 - 1 - 7.
There is hope in us all. We gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face. We must do the thing which we think we cannot do; stand with the Master Chief and Finish this Fight!

This is something that I have wanted to share with you, the Bungie faithful for sometime and although I have put some effort into thinking up the endings for Halo 3, not everyone will like what they read and understandably so, but what I do ask from you is too be open-minded and pick and or create the ending of Halo 3 as you see fit.
Now I am not saying that these ideas will be the one that will be the ending but these are my own private fiction ideas and have no proof of, but somewhere in the back of my mind I would like to see.
Let’s begin:

Halo 3 Ending:
It comes to this, The MC (Master Chief) is standing outside the Ark holding his AS. He knows what needs to be done but to kill a close friend that once was an ally; John has never done something as dreadful as that. He looks at his gun, readies it as if he was about to use it one last time. The final fight. As he runs into the darkness of the huge metallic like cave, he wondered what made Cortana betray him at first.
What turned her? Was this the only way that Cortana saw fit for Earths fate? Destroying it to protect it from the Flood?
None of that mattered now; he knew that he would eventually have to kill her to stop the countdown. Only he could do it, he was the last hope of mankind.
As he run downwards in what seemed like an endless tunnel, the dark grey walls started to narrow, creeping from the dark he saw the bright blue light becoming brighter. He braced himself to the right wall and peeked his head ever so slowly. The light revealed a big round elevator, much like the ones he encountered on the first Halo ring. He walked around it, trying to find a control Panel to activate it. He found it, pushed the button and just when the elevator started to decline he jumped on it.
As he did, Cortana spoke over his internal speakers, her voice distorted, unfamiliar lacking the warmth it once did.
"Why do you keep fighting? This is going to happen wherever you like it or not!"
"It does not have to be that way, there is always another way."
"Don’t you understand, there is no other way. The Flood are coming and this is the only way to stop them, do not do this John."
"But we have the virus to kill them, we can still survive!"
"No we won’t, and neither will you!"
The comm. snapped off and suddenly the elevator was filled with enemies, Seekers were filling the place, laser beams primed and locked on the MC, they were coming from all directions, John had to think fast, he dove to his right and shot whatever he saw in sight. He used his radar and senses to kill them all, but ammo was running out fast.
Shooting he never gave them a chance for them to corner them, "keep moving" he told himself. He stuck the last one with a sticky grenade but he was down to his last clip. As the elevator came to a sudden halt, another corridor was stretching out to the AI's last known position.
He walked in to see a great blue beam shooting upwards, with a control panel next to it. There was Cortana's cube matrix inserted in the panel. The countdown read 1 minute 17 seconds. As he stepped closer to the beam, the door behind him closed, shut. Cortana appeared as her head covered the beam meters above the MC.
"You do not understand John; my job is to protect the Earth. This is the only way; please do not make me do this."
A siren went off in the MC internal systems, Cortana had every laser pointed at him, and if he moves in the wrong direction he is dead.
"Dr. Halsey has found a cure, we can still win!"
Cortana erupted: "That is your mistake John, you always think there is a way to win..........but this time there is no other way!"
Cortana started to fade, and then it was clear what the MC had to do.
"Cortana, what is your Alpha priority?"
Reappearing she stared at the MC for three long cycles.
"My priorities are to protect the civilization of mankind at all cost, even at the cost of Spartan 117."
"Have you accomplished that mission?"
Cortana hesitated, now was John chance, he primed a frag grenade and threw it at the panel, Cortana's lasers fired but it was too late, the grenade left John's gauntlet hand and bounced on the control panel, just as he fell to the floor.
The reaction caused by the one frag grenade set of an interactions withing the Ark. The energy deposits holding the plasma in the centre of the Ark under Cortana blew up. The fire made it way upwards from the deep African deserts, most of the Covenant troops fighting outside, fending off the humans, felt a tremble, almost like a huge earthquake.
As the tremble subsided, the explosion made its way outward sending the Covenant into the Earths atmosphere at thousand kilometres per second. Those not caught in the blast radius were burned from the super heated plasma erupting from the huge blast.
The Ark, unable to send signals deep in space cut the countdown sort thus cutting all the Halos countdown to fire.
The Arbiter witnessing the explosion from space knew what this meant. The entity he once thought as an enemy helped save the Universe and his own species from extinction. He made a promise to make peace with the species that aided in creating the bravest of heroes. Even thought the two were at war, it was time to bridge that long gap. He looked at Sgt. Johnson and knew that he would, could do just that. With Dr. Halsey new virus and the combined Human-Covenant technology the Flood would slowly be eradicated.
But what of John?
With his death be bought peace between two hated worlds, ended the countdown, defeated the Flood, and destroyed the ultimate weapon that the Universe ever known. His Spartan would be proud of their leader dying that way. He knew that he did their deaths justice, from that he could ask no more.
He won, like he always done.
