They didn't tell us what it was it could have been anything. Frankie gets scared easy incase you didn't know.

Been here 6 years, been blacklisted 6 times, that's why I'm not Mythic.

Personally, out of everything that could be in H3, I do NOT want to see boss battles like in H2. I had an epiphany and thought to myself that they could make a really really dumb boss battle.

Imagine; MC walks into a giant cave on Earth, Gravemind begins speaking to him. Cutscene ends and now you have to kill Gravemind, but he sends out waves of flood to kill you, and after you kill the waves he is weakened and you 'board' him and punch him, he throws you off and the same thing repeats.

I have seen things like that in so many games so please Bungie, do not make any really dumb boss battles

Bungie never does boss battles.
In Halo 2, its more of a , "Oh Look! This guy needs to be killed, get at it."

Hopefully Halo 3 will have less specific targets that need to be killed.
And more objectives that need to be achieved.

Actually, killing Regret was a boss battle. You had o disable his shields, and then board him, punch him a couple times and be knocked off, then you had to do it again.

fighting gravemind would be ok, as long as you don't have to punch him, get thrown off, repeat stuff doesn't happen and him being weakened by you killing flood.

Not on easy.. And uh, there was no requirement to disable shields.. Besides, when the objective is "Kill the Prophet of Regret", it wouldn't make much sense to.. Not.

Regret required that you board him and punch him.
Woooo Thats tough.
It takes less than 15 seconds on normal. and more than 10 minutes on Legendary.
Anyway, less boss fights are a given, there are very few special enemies that need killing.

There are/were not boss battles...they were key plot enhancements that made the Halo 2 plot work. If they had been left out, Halo 2 wouldn't have been as good.

I agree but I also did not like Halo 1's ending where you had to drive the warthog out of the pillar in 10 minutes though it was an intense ending!!

A boss battle is an enemy that can only be killed in a very specific way or has special powers. Bonus points if it has stages. Regret is a boss battle because you can only kill him by boarding his chair and beating him down; on higer difficulties, after several sessions. The never-ending henchmen are an extra. Tartarus is a boss because you can only damage him under certain circumstances; when his Shield with Only One Weakness (a boss trademark) is down. The Heretic Leader is a kinda-sorta-maybe a boss, because he has the "Special Power" (the holograms), can only be killed under certain circumstances (in the hanger, after his speech).

Things like fighting Regret was alright, maybe the heretic leader, things like Tartarus can be bad in some views but sometimes people need to die in real gameplay, not in cutscenes every 5 minutes.

Well that is your opinion...but I do not believe they are. Mainly because the are vital plot elements, which if they are left out...would cause the entire plot to just flop.

Interesting, you can only kill elites with weapons. .. Therefore..

Most of those, in fact, all of those items listed not only are vital plot elements. And they are also mission objectives...

Actually you can kill elites with 'nades, melee attacks, rockets, plasma, and bullets.

Halo 2 reminded me of RPG games with the boss battles. You went through whole levels in one place, then you had to do specific things to kill the boss. Tartarus basically required you to run until Johnson took down it's shields, then hit him with an energy swrod, run while his shields areup, then Johnson takes down the shield and then you hit him with an enrgy shword. that is something I don't like.

I completely definitely agree, which is why halo 1 is probably one of the greatest endings ever in my view. I mean it was just stupid having legions of elites charge at tartaurus and die without doing anything. I mean he's stuck on a platform, and they have projectile weapons, while he has a hammer. It was like on a mario platform boss level, but even worse and stupid.

Please no boss battle. Even if you have to do another hog run, no more bosses, we've alrady had the heretic, regret, tartaurus, we don't need more bosses.

Halo to me is a game of one man(with a few others) taking on armies. He's not the most powerful, so he needs help from cortana, vehicles, equipment, and his brain, as he beats these armies with strategy. But he wouldn't be the type of guy to charge in and fight an impossibly strong foe by himself. He would snipe it, call in air strikes, or retreat to find an advantage.

The tartarus battle was stupid and boring enough, but a gravemind battle where you systematically kill its limbs before they grow back, fighting other flood, and having gravemind teleport all over the place would be probably worse than any other ideas I've read.

The boos battles were done extremely well! Stop bad mouthing the boss battles I mean you had to kill Tartarus somehow, and noone would want him to die in a cutscene. And also you dont have to take Regret's shield down you just board him and slap slap he's dead they aren't even very hard boss battles either so be quiet or I might have to do some more reading!

I wouldnt say they are the worst boss battles i've seen, but they still aren't a good idea in my opinion.

I don't care about the simplicity of the boss battles, I just don't like the way you had to play 'em.

Focus ignites moments.

Omega Archangel~Then there was one...

yeah or try not to make them so much like the last battle in h2

I agree. I hated the Boss battles in Halo 2. The Heretic Leader wasn't too bad, but the other were a lot worse.

There was Regret with his magical shield that could stop any weapon and not be weakened at all, but it somehow didn't block John's fist. Then there are the infinite number of honor guards that he seems that have. He can teleport at will but it doesn't occur to him to just teleport to a different part of the ring. And why were killing him anyway? Throughout the entire game we are told that we need to capture him.

Tartarus had another Magical shield that could block anything that was thrown at it except for Johnson's beam rifle.

Yeah, I did't like the "Boss" battles at all, it's too "Donkey Kong".

  • 07.21.2006 8:10 PM PDT

Reach is hot garbage.

THe boss battles in H2 sucked. The Heretic and Tartarus were really a pain and cheap ways to end levels. I hope powerful characters are dealt with in my elaborate ways. Boss battles slows down the pacing of the game IMO (because of the constant trial and error).
