as it stands there is very little difference between covenant and human weapons....sure the covenant weapons do more damadge to shields and the projectiles travel slower but other than that the only difference is how they look.

for instance the plasma rifle and smg, if both weapons are fired continually they will overheat and run out of ammo at the same time. there is basically little difference when you actually think about it.

the carbine is essentially a battle rifle except that it fires single shot projectiles.

what i am asking for is greater discrepancy between weapons so you actually must choose the correct weapon for the correct situation, i believe that halo 1 orchestrated this perfectly due to the fact that most plasma weapons had a freezing effect, were semi automatic and overheated in a much longer time than the current plasma weapons do.

i can think of several situations where this could come into play.
example 1: you have a plasma rifle and assault rifle and are running around the map when you see a player wielding a shotgun with his back towards you. the first idea that pops into your head is to empty a clip into him but then you decide that if you use the plasma rifle to freeze or slow his movement he will not be able to turn in time to use the shotgun.

I agree. Halo's weapons, even though few, were better because each one is unique and different, not generic.

The plasma rifle burns up way before the SMG has to reload.

and the are different too. you can to lead the shots to a moving target with the PR but you get higher damage, with the SMG you aim directly at the target and you can hit them.

Right, if you consider the BR "generic" then your wrong. I don't think that you have a sense for weapons. The BR was more like a rifle, than the AR just for the simple fact that the Halo 1 AR was more or less a Machine Gun.

maybe you didnt understand...the weapons i am comparing are human vs covenant not human versus human or covenant versus covenant. i am saying that having an essentail equivalent to each weapon in halo is not a good idea. as it stands the only weapons that are stand alone originals are the brute shot, rocket launcher, needler.

shotgun and sword are specifically designed to counter each other which not only robbed the shotgun of power but made it esentially useless..this was one of the casualties of weapion balancing

Even the needler, with its new spreading, lesser homing, and general non-explosiveness, I think is more like an SMG than the PR.

Now the halo 1 needler, that was unique. And actually useful.

I doubt that the Shotgun and Sword were designed to counter each other...mainly because it takes some time and skill to counter a sword with a shotgun...

Actually Zee, They were.
Thats why the shotgun beats a sword when there is no lag. But the Sword can beat the shotgun if the player is good at maneuvering.
