Subject: I kinda noticed something about the Ships in halo, and halo 3...

that which is not dead can eternal lie, but with strange aeons even death may die.

Have any of you wondered how the Covenant ships just float in the air? like the big capitol ships, like In the trailer...and in halo 2 "In Amber Clad" just floats around in the second level begining, when johnsons all "ragady ass fleet", in the background the IAC, is just floating, I Mean How the hell to the human ships do it? covie ships have anit-gravity, but is god holding up the IAC by strings?

If it is in space, then they float because there is no gravity.

Because it's a game.

Do people post this just to be asses? We KNOW IT"S A -blam!- GAME. The purpose of these kinds of topics is to speculate on reasons within the game universe. Giving smart-alick "It's a game" answers doesn't make you look smart, it just makes you look like a dick.

Anyway, we already know that the Covenant has anti-grav technology. Assuming IAC is a newly-made ship, it could be a testing platfrom for reverse-engineered Covie technology, which would explain how it could fly on Earth and in High Charity and hover over Installation 5 (look back at the way you came while on the gondola).

Or they could just have boosters firing downwards keeping the ship up like the pelican. And you dont necessarily need to be able to see the boosters for them to be there. Who knows what technology they are using. What about those army jets that hover? They could have expanded upon that technology.

We see no jets of exhaust coming from below the ship, or any thrusters at all. And even if there was, those thrusters would have to generate massive amounts of force to keep IAC up in the air. Forget about movement.

In Halo CE Humans had low advanced technology thats wasn't as good...

After First Strike, they stole covenant technology and advanced it!

Quite right about the flipping out. I'm angry about something else at the moment outside of these forums, and it got vented here.

But still, does he really think we don't know that? How does saying "because it's a game" contribute to the discussion? It doesn't. The point of the topic is to search for in-game reasons to the phenomonon. It's part of the fun.

And how is "shut up and drink your ovaltine" even a comeback, anyway? Ad Hominem arguement for Ad Hominem arguement?

6 Minutes of Hell video here

I'm going to say if we can make large space ships capable of faster than light travel, we can make them hover.

IAC is signifigantly heavier than a pelican, so it require similarly massive downwards pointing trusters. However, these are not present on IAC.

It wasn't a comeback, I was just seeing what would happen if I would've said that to you.

You flipped out when I said 'it's just a game,' I was wondering if you'd flip out if I gave a response directed at you in a slightly rude manner.

Actually, probably the same way I did in the post you quoted in that post. With a quizzical head-tilt.

Ok for all those who are wondering how they float its called BELLY JETS. they have about maybe one or two hundred belly jets that can't be seen from a distance and if it was like only one or two they would be easy to take out and cause the ship to fall so their you go.

In "First Strike", Cortana had new slipspace calcuation that could "change the tide of the war", now that she got back to earth, the humans probably know how to slipspace even better than the Covenant.

Maybe they did the same thing for the anti-grav thing.

The ship uses the electromagnetic field of earth to float. Kinda like when you put two magnets together and there is resistance between them.
