We're not talking about evil snarly things jumping out of dark corridors...

The very first level of Halo 1. You didn't feel like you were running around for no reason randomly shooting stuff. The crewmembers and marines said and did things that added to the feel of the level, even in the cinematics. People were panicing, when you got to the escape pod the cinematic showed a marine spazzing on the floor, and a rather paniced marine later shouting "Ship ahead!" as the Pillar of Autumn burned towards the strange structure. There was some emotion and chaos. It showed how rather hopeless some of them felt, how panicky and uncertain they could be.

Heck, even that comical Grunt running from the armless headless Elite Flood helped with the atmosphere of complete chaos.

Halo 2 just feels too scripted to me.

Youre right, some human, and some cold calculated machine, but being that earth is completeley oppressed and the Covenenant walk free it's surface and god knows how many died trying to stop them and all the hard worlk and all thoes that died following the Master Chief, i don't know about you but i think i'd be on the edge of sad / rage / psycottic, add in the cold machine and hell he's meaner and tougher and more "demon" like than ever, so maybe some sorrow / dark music like (sorry didbn't see your name) suggested. I guess what i'm trying to say is now Human emotion is his prymary OS not the machine anymore this "IS PERSONAL". Oh yeah also in the little phamplett that came with the Halo 2 Specal Edit didn't he have some sort of wife or whatever before his conversion, if that is true was she one of the ones working on that excavation (ya know from the excavation log) and if the covenant killed the excavation crew and the chief where to find out, oh Sh** talk about personell it'll turn into a revenge spree pretty fast, who knows the MasterChief then himself could turn a little evil, cheze.

Oh looked into the phamplett it's titled "Converstions from the Universe" is the MC's real name John in which case the letter on the very last page is to him from a "Cassandra". She comments about being on a medstation of some sort and is being "Reskinned" (whatever that means) i don't know maybe you guys can shed some more light on these details?
She's one of the survivving Spartans around during the time of Halo 2, first introduced to us in the books -- she was the one too injured to go on the mission to High Charity in the PoA.

Oh i know that but maybe i guess i'm just shooting for a more hopeless scene. I'm not talking chaos or things jumping around every corner just a sence of no hope and complete dessolation, aloneness, and some sorrow. A completeley different emoution thatn halo one, just look at the trailer and it's music.

Oh and thnx MLG Cheehwawa, i havent read the books yet but intend too.

Maybe it did feel a little too scripted.
I'd like to see a little more of the Halo:Ce feel.
And its appropriate, its the End of the Game, And a very real sense of the end of the world. The Final Fight. It should be extremely intense.
Halo 2 had a lot of story they had to push through, and thats why it was more scripted. They were trying to get as many events as they could in at a time.

I think Halo 3 should have simpler cinematics that explain themselves.
Cinematics like the trailer.
I would love to see most of the cinematics in Halo 3 have that kind of feel.
Less Dialog, and more emotion from the Music and the Cinematography.

Still, you have your limits as to how much emotion goes into it. Don't want Halo to be Emo, do you?

They probably did cram too much story in one game... crudload happened in Halo 2 ><.

I'm afraid we're going to face the same problem in the next game too. I have a feeling a lot will happen between now and the end.

Youre Right it just needs more elegance, a little smoothing not so much sh** happening all at once at lightspeed.

good point. The Marines acted like professionals, like they are saying that they respect u for being the Cheif, but they can defend themselves. I liked that better. I don't like punks. They sort of act like they can not hold a gun steady. It's cool if its the flood they are scared of. I want strong marines. Hostages should act scared.

Well everyone can relate to the first time they ever played Halo all the way through. No one picked up on anything real dangerous except for the Covenant. That was your focus until strang things started to happen. Like Cpt. Keys disappearing after he was trying to find some random weapon cache. But when you go down that first elevator and you see dead grunts, jackals and the such, you start to feel a little weary about continuing on. And when you finally get to Prvt. Jenkins helmet, see the footage and hear a loud banging sound, you poop your pants.

Who dosn't love that feeling? Halo 2 had no real intense dramatic poop your pants, sequences. Im sure there putting there all into Halo 3. I mean they've been fideling with is since the realese of Halo 2.

Keep up the good Work...

I know it isn't like Doom, but during Halo you did get a sense of weariness and you got an odd feeling as there were no Covenant fighters, just dead ones. In Halo 3 i believe there will be many sequences that give the gamer a tinge of helplessness or a bit of a weary feeling. I'm sure Bungie will do a great job with this game guys. One last thing, i have a feeling in my gut that this halo game will far surpass every single Halo game not only for its tremendous graphic effects, but also becaus4e i feel the single player campaign mode will be revamped to have the lplayer feel much more involved and make the player feel like he really is master chief trying to save the world because otherwise I beleive thegame wouldnt be worth playing.

Well, it would be definitely worth playing, but i don't believe that single player would be as good. sorry about the mix up

A single man blew up a 10,000 kilometer ring. Wouldn't you be scared sh**less by somone who did that the next time you saw him?

Yeah I think that was one of the things that was missing from Halo 2.

I also think another thing that didn't make Halo 2's campaign as interesting was just that MC wasn't as involved in the whole story as much as he was in Halo 1. It kind of seemed like this: shoot aliens, Cortana tells you whats going on, shoot more aliens, Cortana tells you some more stuff, shoot more aliens, Cortana fills you in, etc. I mean I just got tired of shooting things. ( this may just be my problem). And then the fact that the maps were very narrow and guided, it just gave me the feeling of being on a guided tour of the Halo 2 story, and just getting to shoot things to make it entertaining. Whereas in Halo 1 I felt like I was a part of the story, that I was in it, doing it, that I (the player) was the focus of attention. And that ends up being a lot more entertaining then having it told to you while you shoot aliens.

a simple change to the AI to make it more agressive and more serious dialouge would go a long way.

i played two betrayals yesterday on legendary and was near the end. a massive battle between the flood and covenant was playing out so i decided to hang far back up ontop of a small plateau and use my sniper rifle. while i was zoomed in did not notice that a flood had crept up on me and i was startled when i was suddenly struck. i simply pulled out my shotgun and killed him....easy i thought to myself and went back to sniping. then four camoflauged elites (who actually surrounded me instead of shooting when i was in range) suddenly began firing in unison without giving me an escape route....i was an adrenaline generating moment that halo 2 has none of.

and on the fact of aliens being frightened of the chief.....they are driven by religious fanaticism and that should give them great fortitude....look at the arabs in the middle east throughout time...they did not care for death and fought fanatically to their last.
