. . ... . ......... ... . . .. ....

Not sure how many of you here played a lot of objective games here.. but for one, I enjoyed Sudden Death. Not sure why.. but I found it fun to contest the bomb inside the base for a couple of minutes to finish off that arm.

However, too many people abused it by hiding somewhere in the map / getting off the map with the bomb or flag, forcing you to either somehow go find them and kill them, or just qutting. One time, we were in a game for almost two hours because they had gotten the bomb on top of Headlong. It only ended after I was able to get a banshee up on top of a building near defense base and snipe the bomb holder. Eventually Bungie just removed it from Assault altogether.

Part of the problem was that the definition of "sudden" was kind of silly in Halo 2. You were allowed to drop the bomb repeatedly, or go out of range and get your 5 seconds back.

My suggestion that I have somewhat discussed with my clanmates:

Sudden death should only activate if the bomb is in the arm ring, or if it hasn't been dropped yet within a certain distance of the arm ring. This would keep people from hiding in the offensive base with the bomb. This would prevent them from getting off the map (because you know people will do it in Halo 3) with the bomb and sitting there forever.

Another suggestion is that sudden death stops the clock at 10 seconds (heck, even throw in an option that we can set!) and runs down every time the bomb is uncontested. However, the clock never jumps back to 10.

Now.. with CTF, I'm not sure how fighting griefers could be done. Sudden death is very helpful in making those awesome last-second capture runs, but it also allowed people to get off maps and grief.
