"Caputofish -- Are You Man Enough?"
However, if you go here http://h3da.blogspot.com/2006/07/halo-graphic-novel.html it brings up some very interesting points.
One, however, drawn by Lorraine McLees (of Bungie staff) is very interesting. So interesting, in fact, that we're not even going to post it here (that's right, you have to buy the HGN to see it).
It features Spartan-117 at the center of a two-page spread. He's sitting atop an M19 rocket crate on what appears to be a large tarmac. Strewn in front of him in a concentric circle are all of the weapons from Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2. Behind him are our two favorite M12 LRVs (the standard and Gauss variant), a Pelican, a squad of ODSTs, and a Longsword. It's a very clean and impressive piece, but more importantly, it has some interesting aspects that we would like to share with our loyal readers.
First strange feature is that one of the M7 Caseless SMGs shown (there were two total) has a silencer attached. It's the most obvious weapon variation to what we know has been in the Halo games before, so it perked our interest. If they're only showing everything that has actually been in the Halo series so far, why show that? Could it mean that the M7 will have multi-facted abilities in Halo 3? With the advent of a more powerful SMG returning (the Assault Rifle), Bungie may want to change some things up with the current SMG in order to legitimize retaining it. This could be a potential change.
We won't go into the entire argument of 'stealth-based' missions or sequences at this point, but silencers on weapons would offer change. Welcome change? An answer to that will have to wait.
The second thing that will catch your eye is the M7057 Defoliant Projector, better known as the Flamethrower. Yes, this timeless weapon has attempted to be in both Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, but is currently only available on PC. We know thanks to the Limited Edition DVD for Halo 2 that they really wanted it in the final game, but thanks to the technical inefficiency of the original Xbox, it didn't pass the cutting room. That brings us circa 2006 where we've seen, time-and-time-again, excellent portrayals of fire and smoke in next-gen games and we're expecting this weapon to show up. Is it something we really want in Halo 3? Well, that depends on how it performs in gameplay. We definitely want it more than the Sentinel Beam, that's for damn sure.
The third thing put a smile on our collective faces here at H3DA is absolutely bombtastic! If you look down below the Master Chief's perch, you'll see the bomb used in the Assault multiplayer gametype. Fans have been clamoring about a variety of more explosive weaponry since the end of Halo: Combat Evolved. Suggestions ranged from EMP grenades that knock out communication and technology only to the inclusion of the Lotus Anti-Tank Mine showcased in the Halo novels.
No one ever really considered the Assault bomb as a potential weapon. This is notably true because of the excessively devastating explosion that accompanies the proper arming and detonation of it. But what if that was tinkered with and adjusted? What if it could be armed and thrown in gameplay? Would it be too over-powered or could it, with some tinkering, be implemented effectively into game play? What about just in the campaign?
Whatever the case, it's inclusion in Mrs. McLees' art in the HGN and the picture by our buddy, Lee Wilson shown below make for a very intriguing possibility.
The spread brings up some really entertaining possibilties: Will all of these weapons be playable in Halo 3? They show the overwhelmingly large M6D near the dwarfed M6C, something which must have made the Halo: Combat Evolved purists grin from ear to ear. Can we expect the M6D to return? What about playable Pelicans or Longswords? They're here in fine fashion, so can we expect them to return? This time fully operable and available in multiplayer?
Time will tell and meanwhile we will hope.
