Sometimes there are specific things I like to discuss in a forum. If its in the Halo 3 forum, I might want to discuss the Flood, or a new idea for human aircraft. If it's in the Optimatch forum maybe I like to discuss topics about BTB.

My point is, instead of starting a new thread everytime there is something of interest on a forum users mind. Why not have a Search Topic function that allows the user to type in a key-word, then a list of threads with that word in the subject would display. The button could be located right next to the new topic button at the top of a forum.

This might reduce the amount of new threads constantly being posted, and help users avoid posting about topics that have already been posted. This would allow discussions to be more involved and remain to fewer threads with greater insight of what has already been presented.

Feedback please.

Different thread, same idea.

Same idea, different thread.

More of the same.

Just pointing out that yes, it is needed, and yes, everyone already knows.

Let's see how many times this kind of thread has been created....ive been here since of January of 2004, started posting around March to May, and there usually has been one created at least once a month. Then Halo 2 came, so thats around once every week I guess, and its been like that for awhile....The first thing I am going to do with the search function is search how many times some made a search function thread.

Oh, and its been in the works for quite sometime

But back in January of 2004, there was a search feature, what with the old forum layout and all. It wasn't until April of that year that the site was upgraded and the search feature disappeared.

"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

My thoughts:

1) A forum search would help. A lot. I mean a lot. People would be able to know if their question has been answered before, or if someone else has noticed the same rumor they have.

2) For some reason I have the feeling that the work put into creating a good forum search would be wasted. From my experiences, people who ask for a forum search tend to be: A) People who want to find their own threads easily. B) People who hate the fact that there are so many repeated topics. C) People who wish to have an excuse for making a commonly repeated thread rather than simply searching back a few pages. I have an overwhelming feeling that there would be few people who would use the forum search as it is intended (or at least asked for). I mostly say this because most members who make repeated topics that are already on the front page think that their topic is so important they don't even care to check, or that the rumor they just found out must be brand new, because they just heard about it.

It's already in the works, and has been for a while. That's what they all say, anyway. But everyone (including me) thinks it's a great idea, so..well, no comment. See above posts.

Yeah, I've heard that it's coming. What I want is a reinstallation of the "ask the disembodied soul a question" box.
