Like I stated before, would there possibley be a way for Achronos make the member since date be invisible like he did with the post counter?
I would imagine that it is possible, but I do use it in what I consider to be a positive manner.
If I notice someone violating the rules and they have a recent join date, depending on their style and the type of rule violation I can take two very different courses of action.
* If their mistake seems to be because they are new and were unaware of the rules, I advise them of the error, direct them to the rules and recommend that they read and follow them in the future. I also take a moment to welcome them to the site and the community.
* If their actions appear to be someone who has just created another account in order to spam, flood, harass or disrupt, I simply drop the hammer and keep moving.
There are subtle signs that can put someone into one of those two groups. Now without the ability to see that someone might be new and unaware of their mistakes, the other moderators and I might not be able to "warn and welcome" a new member and turn their mistake into a positive learning experience.
So, I don't mind the "member since" feature. I use it to to tell me one simple thing... how long has a member been a member.
I try not to use it to make assumptions or draw conclusions as to their value or status as a member, but only to know how long they've been around.
Yes, but like me. Would you assume that I would be from 7/16? Or an earlier member?
