This is from a recent MTV Interview, posted on the Bungie main page.

Frank O'Connor:
We had some other things that were secrets within secrets. There's an aspect of the Arbiter's character that is still secret to this day and will remain so for good reason.

Wtf??

I have barely even thought about the Arbiter in regards to Halo 3. Now I'm curious to know just what the heck this is all about. Any ideas?

I'm wondering if he's somehow going to be the key to defeating the flood, or Truth, or even if he will betray mankind for approval from the Covenant that he left. I'm totally clueless.

Here's a link to the article.

I am...whimsical today.

But he will keep playing this game with the fans. "The funny thing about this conversation is that if you ran the entire interview verbatim ... it would be transcribed on Halo.Bungie.org and dissected for secrets," he said. "They would go back and look at the Arbiter section of our conversation and say, 'What was he talking about? Wait a minute, I know,' and come up with sometimes cockamamie — and sometimes startlingly accurate theories.":) He knows us well

Nah, I don't think this is one of those "just to screw with them" kind of things. If you read it in the context of the whole article, it's in a section where they are speaking of the Arbiter and how they kept the Arbiter's role in the story a secret. Then he goes on to say that.

What's crazy is now I want to go back and play the Arbiter's levels and look for foreshadowing- he also makes a brief appearance in the Halo Graphic Novel.

I'll have you know
that I've become
Indestructible!

Dark Jester 86 is the Gamer tag.

Yes the HGN is worth buying.

SPOILER

And the Arbiter is The Sangheili Supreme Commander that Rtas Vadumee talks to in the beginning.

Look at the times- I posted mine first :)

Anywho, yes, the GN is definitely worth a buy. It gives a lot of info about Half Jaw, the Arbiter's buddy from Halo 2, and shows how he became familiar with the Flood.

The Arbiter has always been an interesting character for me. Some people hate him, but I've always loved the idea of playing as one of MC's "enemies". I've always wondered if there was a special reason that the Arbiter was chosen as the Arbiter by the Prophet Truth- like, if there was something deeper that Bungie wasn't telling us. I'm wondering if he has some kind of royal lineage within the Covenant.

By the way, I've included a link to the article in my original post now :)

that which is not dead can eternal lie, but with strange aeons even death may die.

I just though of something, what if truth new, that the brute would eventually betray the Elites, so he made the arbiter, then Use the brutes to to all the grunt work, and capture earth, then they kill off the brutes, then the covies are all happy again....just a though.

i think the Arbiter is going to betray the Humans. this might have no relation with the Arbiter, but iin the Cortana letters, she says something about how you shouldnt pity the faith blinded zealots(sp?)(or elites), because they wont like you in the end anyways.
even if this has nothing to do with it, i still think the Arbiter will betray them. i like him and all, but yeah...

Truth was behind the betrayal of the Elites.

It seems Bungie does know its fanbase well. IMO, I think it's best to leave some things a secret. It'd be more prospectful towards. Halo 3's story...

Were there any moment of hesistation in the Arbiter, what and why he did that he did, change of expression, or choice of dialogue in Halo 2 that you might think so? It seems like a context thing. So it's no new secret of Halo 3 if it was not revealed "to this day".

Turn against the humans, you say? That's not a bad guess. That would create a whole new different perspective than what most people think and expect. If so, then I still feel Arbiter will do a good deed in the end.
