Anyone can post here what they liked and disliked about halo1 and halo2. Just make sure that you say which game you're taliking about. Ok, I'll start first.

(bungie:I made this thread so you can see what people liked and disliked about halo 1 and 2,and therefore help you in creating a better game.)

Halo2:
Good
I liked the way that the cutscenes were being made. The cut-scenes were made (and looked) way better that the halo1 cut-scenes. I also liked the fact that the vehicles in halo2 were easier to control. It was really good that halo2 forced many players to change their strategies in different combat situations rather that using the same weapon(pistol, shotgun, sniper in halo1) Halo2 does make melee attack more usable in multiplayer.I liked the lock-on feature the rocket launcher now has.

Bad
I did not like the fact that in halo2 there was not as much war action that the E3 gameplay demo led us to believe. A lot of the Arbiter levels were stealth based missions, although I did like the last level where you kill Tartarus. When the vehicles in halo2 crash against a wall or something the vehicles sound like they are made of aluminum cans or something similar.(especially the banshee) A real 3 ton banshee(or warthog) would not sound like a tin can.

This thread is to help bungie see what we liked and disliked about halo1 and 2 ,so they can create a better halo3.
(That why this is related to halo3)

Halo Combat Evolved

Good

I liked everything from Halo Combat Evolved. Everything was woven together nicely.

Bad

None

Halo 2

Good

I liked fighting new aliens and getting to know the Covenant side of the story. I also enjoyed seeing Earth levels and the flood looked better.

Bad

The overall feeling in Campaign was no where near as life threatening as Halo Combat Evolved. I also think that the sword should not lunge. That's unrealistic. And I would've liked to see more cool random stuff like:
Grav lifts
More Dropships
More exploding
A fleet of Covenat ships would've been nice, to see up close that is.
No jokes from Marines would make a way better game!
More mission types instead of get to the selected place on the map.

.. Bungie knows what was good and bad in Halo 1 and Halo 2. It's a good chance (not a solid one) that they won't read this, and they really don't need one person's opinion on how to create their games. They're very smart and educated people, with a good sense of how games should be created.

I completely trust Bungie to make Halo 3 the way it should be.

It's so they can see what we liked and disliked. Were not making any requests of what we want to see in halo3.

  • 07.24.2006 2:26 PM PDT

For the record: Bungie employees rarely bother to read the forums, much less pay attention to people's opinions. You are a fool if you think that this post will make a difference.

  • 07.24.2006 2:27 PM PDT

thats pretty stupid... you would think bungie would be interested of what people are saying about their game...

I believe Bungie was just using Halo 2 as a test to what we like. I believe they will know what to do in Halo 3. They actually have the time now, anyway. Don't worry. Jason Jones and the gang will make a great game.

Actually, they do listen.. Just uh, not to things like this. Change the vehicle crashing sounds? Silly silly.

The way you say it, it sounds like bungie are cold hearted people who don't care what people say.

If you want a realistic feeling game, you need to pay attention to details.

Halo 1

Good
- Excellent story.
- Smooth Gameplay.
- Relatable Characters.
- Believable Graphics for its day.
- Proof of Linda-058 onboard the Pillar of Autumn.

Bad
- Level Design was Repetative.
- Pistol was overpowered and unbalanced. (How is a sidearm a go-to gun? Not realistic.)
- Some of the gun combos could not be countered.
- Everyone needs a gun backpack/holsters for his weapons (with grenades on their belt) and draw animations for their weapons and grenades.

Halo 2

Good
- Earth Levels
- The Arbiter
- An Improved and Far Deeper Story and Level Design than Halo 1
- Every Weapon Has a Counter.
- Excellent Graphics.
- Minor Characters have elevated roles.
- Glorious Multiplayer (especially over XBox Live).
- Weapon Set is almost fully balanced.
- The "Finishing This Fight" ending.

Bad (but easily fixable)
- Sword Lunge is a tad too large.
- Plasma Pistol/Battle Rifle combination should be a little more counterable at medium range.
- Pulling Weapons out of nowhere is still not fixed?
- Legendary was unfun and way too over the top in difficulty.

Fixed.

halo 1

good: the missions felt more desperate, especially on legedary. you could also use every weapon effectively on legendary. they all had their purpose.

bad: the strategies you used were repetetive. there were not multiple ways to do things. you needed to just kill them. no stealth, outsmarting, etc.

halo 2:

good: in some missions, oyu needed to use stealth as opposed to brute force. the arbiter was well done. he had camo, and therefore the missions were set up so you needed to use it to survive.

bad: on legendary, not all the weapons could really be used. didnt have that desperate feel halo did

for halo 3:

make all the weapons have a purpose. try to make legendary be hard in a good way, not hard in a bull-blam!- way (a very fine line). make it have that desperate feel. make you be able to use diversions, cause pandemonium, etc to get through, as opposed to just brute force (mostly brute fore though

I agree that Bungie will never read this, let alone take it into consideration, but I think it's a neat idea.

Halo 1
Good:
+ The campaign had a great mood of loneliness and hopelessness
+ Epic Battles (beginning of Cartographer, several instances in AOTCR, the Final Run)
+ Being able to watch CPUs fight each other (you can't really do this in H2 without them noticing you)
+ The game made you want to try harder difficulties
+ Being able to launch hogs
+ Multiplayer Maps had great and memorable architecture, for the most part
+ Had better splitscreen play

Bad:
- 343 Guilty Spark and The Library were dull and repetitive in the gameplay department
- Pretty much any enemy who wasn't an elite/jackel/grunt was either annoying or weak/stupid (AI)
- Vehicles were unbalanced and overpowered
- Some of the MP maps had weird weapon placement (like having two shotguns next to each other)
- MP wasn't as customizable as it could be
- No Xbox Live Support, and Xbox Connect is laggy and somewhat unorganized
- Health system could lead to curse-inducing mistakes
- AI allies could only do so much, no AI helpers past the Library

Halo 2
Good:
+ Xbox Live Support and easily the best and most versatile live play at it's time (and probably still today)
+ More diverse enemies, weapons and locales
+ Majority of enemies put up a good fight and the flood was less annoying
+ Active Camo button opens up a lot of potential for campaign
+ somewhat better AI helpers
+ Vastly improved Vehicular combat (and better vehicle-based maps for MP)
+ Every Campaign level had something to offer
+ Customizable multiplayer
+ Better characters

Bad:
- Lacked the mood of Halo 1's campaign
- Lack of battles between CPUs
- A few of the multiplayer maps and gametypes are stinkers (Backwash)
- Camping can ruin matches if the proper settings aren't in place
- Heroic and legendary were too frustrating to play "just for fun"
- Splitscreen matches aren't nearly as fun
- Some unfair moments in the campaign
- Plasma Pistol is unbalanced

Less repition in gameplay, and levels that let you do anything - I think its free form levels or somethin
