Personally i think it would be cool if the good guys lost for once. It would make for great continuations to the series, like with the MC trying to A) Take bak earth B) Found a new planet C) anything.

I think it would be really cool, although unlikely. The only place i see the series going if we beat the covies bak is going to their home planet and wipeing them out, which would be A) Impossable and B) would end the eries (mabey).

Well most of what i said is useless but still i think it would be cool if like we lost for once. Sort of like an urgancy, to make us think. Would be real cool. Anyone else agree?

I really don't care, as long as it is a good story.

Halo 01 was set on.. duh.. Halo. It blew up. No more setting for Halo 01. Halo 02 will be set on Earth and another ring-type structure.

So if we go to Earth, save it, then go to the ring-type structure, we'll probably end up blowing the ring up. But then there's still the Convenant. I don't really see how the Convenant are going to let Earth go once they have the coordinates. If Earth's not blown up, then I see constant Earth-saving missions, which would kind of be redudant, even if it's Halo. Something's gotta happen to the Covenant or their coordinates.

Maybe we hop onto their ship, seen in the E3 demo thing, and steal them having Earth's coordinates. Then we save Earth and hop onto the closest ring structure. Then we proceed to destroy all the "Halo"s. That's a good plot, in my opinion. ;D

I say HUMANS LOSE AND THE OLD ONES/Before the covies return in some way to interven?? could be a reason their structures are on earth!

You mean forerunners?

And I think that Humans should lose the entire war, not just earth. Either that, or MC dies to save us all. Needs to be more emotional story this time. The last story was great, but it needs to strike a chord in your feelings. Make you angry, make you sad, make you something.

I want an epic feeling. I don't care what happens, as long as it's epic.

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

Tragic Ending..... like the old Greek Tradegies of the past... the Iliad for one. With it's host of great hero's who fall.... and in the end.... the one's you end up caring for... or hope for ti provail... don't. They die... or simply lose and cannot recover... I love a storyline where the good guys lose... why? Cause no one does that. Ever since we were kids... the Good guys AWLAYS WIN!! But that's not life... so.. if Earth is overrun... that would be cool...and we are left with a continuation of the story... or... most poetic of all.. Earth is destoryed... it's survivors scattered throughout the universe... to be hunted down one by one... now... while many may be pissed by that... I think it would be cool and make the game a one of a kind....

But something is going to happen to cause the Covenant to lose or be forced off Halo... perhaps the Covie Civil War I keep hearing about.... which allows the Humans a respite and chance to hit thier foes while they are divided...either way we'll know in 5 months...

I've read an interview with a high ranking bungie employee saying this is the last in the halo series, so whatever happens, it will be good.
A few things to consider:
-Flood are involved
-A new Halo
-possible unraveling to the forerunner mysteries.
-Possible involvment of 4 other spartans from the novels.
-Find out what happend to Dr. Hallsley at the end of First Strike.
-Maybe we could find out what drives the covenant. By that i mean the reason behind their religous zeal.

If all of these items are woven into a good story with all the subtleness of the first Game, and bungie has a fitting end, I will be very happy.

I just hope Microsoft doesn't force Bungie to make a 3rd one and kill the series... like companies have with Final Fantasy... it was good in the beginning... now... all they care about is money... and that makes for -blam!- games..... I PRAY TO GOD.... they do not do this to Halo...

let bungie do the story writing, and you to do the playiong, thats why i selected... dont care, maybe earth gets owned (or the humans on it) and Cheif goes to a local ring, finds something new on this ring to drive covenant away, scares them off, not kills them with a destructo ray kinda thing.... (sorry, even thouygh i said let bungie do it, i had to say something)

Yeah that's just the problem. WE ARE LOSING!!!!! In 27 years we have had ONLY 5 victories out of over 1000 battles! Those battles include all of the outer colonies and some of the inner. Here is all that we have won.

Harvest in 2532 (I think 32, may be 35)
Draco III (date unknown)
Sigma Octanus IV July 10, 2552
The Halo Campaign
Operation First Strike

I'd say it is about time we start winning, not losing. Learn the story, that is my advice, because humanity is screwed. And oh yeah just because we win on the ground does not mean we win in space. We win in space when we outnumber the Covenant 3-to-1. Even then that is just a fair match, not a guarantee. And the battles on the ground are always won with Spartans, but lose alot with just marines unless they are having a good day.

i think the end of halo 2 will be kind of like the end of "the return of the king". a few humans fighting a gigantic coveanant force, they are losing, when chief suddenly.........

and the war is won, but the sacrifice was great, What is the price we have to pay?
One thing, The MAster Chief will not let mankind down.

if we've managed to solve world hunger and global warming and all the other major problems we face right now, then maybe, just maybe the earth should be spared. if not, then glass this rock.
i personally can see an ending that involves MC sacrificing himself by activating a halo in proximity to the covenant homeworld. just the one halo, mind you.

I myself think the MC will of course fight on earth then maybe a jump to a Covenant or Human orbital platform, (the moon level) then after obvious assloads of fighting manages to capture a Prophet (original Spartan mission) then does some sort of hostage agreement and flys to Covie homeworld (coordinates recieved from either capture ship, or captured Prophet) Then...well...I left out the other Spartans...and the Forerunner...and the flood...and 343... and exactly how this is supposed to take place...ahh screw it. We'll find out in a few months.

You know, there are a hundred ways on how the Halo 2 story could unfold, but having Earth destroyed would be an interesting twist. Here's a little something i found on the net:

(warning! If you don't want to have even the slightest risk of having the Halo 2 story spoiled, even though i don't believe that that is the true Halo 2 story, DON'T click the link, thank you very much ;P)

http://ee.1asphost.com/wildmonkeys/halo2storyline.htm

That's an interesting way it could go, me thinks.

Yeah and guess what? That storyline is a lie. Proven wrong hundreds of times now. Don't listen to it.

A bungie employee said that one half of the game would consist of pushing the covenant off of Earth, and then taking the front to the covenant!
