Subject: Don't Post In This Forum Unless You Know What This Forum Is For

bah

Bungie needs to clarify the description for the Septagon because there are way too many people posting off-topic posts in here that would be perfectly on-topic in the Underground. They should change the description on the forum page. Maybe a mod, I won't say who, *csotuogshh[/co lor]*, excuse me ;-), but maybe someone who already made a post welcoming people to the Septagon could modify the subject of the post to say something along the lines of "Don't Post In This Forum Unless You Know What This Forum Is For" to get people's attention, then in the post in big red letters put, "This forum is for discussions about Bungie.net. It is not for discussing games."
I think this would help a lot until Bunigie makes the descrition a little clearer.

Shishka made one over in The Underground. And when someone posts off-topic I copy and paste the descriptions for this forum and the one it belongs in. What you suggest would be easier. ;D

Yea, I'll bring over the forum faq and rules topic over here. It's got shishkas descriptions in there.

The Rip Saw strikes once again from a point of authority that I am not to sure exists. One day you may get your beloved MOD power but until them just try to chill and let them do their jobs. I am sure that in mean time you will continue to "cough" up a suggestion for a future mod though. (i don't mean this to be offensive, its supposed to be an observasion)

 • 05.19.2004 1:52 AM PDT

Hey, chill. Rip Saw is just trying to help. It's not just the responsibility of the mods to improve the state of the forums, it's the responsibility of all the members. He was just pointing out that there might not be a clear enough description of what the Septagon is for (especially since the new b.net means that it isn't actually part of Chapter Founders anymore), considering the number of "Halo 2 question" type posts we get here. Don't chide Rip Saw just because he is acting like a responsible member of these forums.

That's rare...

 • 05.19.2004 8:07 AM PDT

Yeah I havent seen alot of that happen. Why is it that people from underground have to post it in septagon, and no one from septagon posts in the Underground....its strange...

because alot of people don't like it down here i think. They're all like: "uh the septagon is that stupid place where we can say crap. And everyone's like uhh, post in the underground!
Uuh, i sooooo hate that place."

well, i think that that's what they think.

Yeah thats true. 75% of the things said here in the Septagon now is "post it in the Underground". Which i think really sucks, because I hardly go into the underground due to the massive flame wars that end up starting.

I used to avoid the underground after the big change, but now i visit it alot, since ignoring the place doesn't make it better.

 • 05.19.2004 9:17 AM PDT

Yeah..Underground is alot worse..but you're right..not going there doesnt make it better. So i guess i'll only go in there to correct people and help em out.

 • 05.19.2004 9:25 AM PDT

Right now there seems to be two "cultures" that have formed in the Underground, and in the Septagon. We need to merge them back together in one way or another. The the Underground doesn't know what the hell the Septagon is; while the majority of the Septagon talks about how bad the Undergorund is, but does absolutely nothing about it (face it, it's true.). We need to somehow put the Underground and Septadon back together, otherwise the rift between the Underground and Septagon will grow.

That is the most constructive thing that I have seen some say yet Banshee. If we make a effort to atempt to make the underground better then we wont have to spend countless hours complaining about how they (more often then not in my opinion inadvertently) post to the septagon. Basicaly I think we should continue to help direct misplaced threads, but not to blatently say over and over again to put up signs saying what to and what not to post here.

I'm totally cool with you guys helping out, but please ignore the trolls. Just report troll topics. There's nothing you can do to stop a troll. Don't try to reason with them either. Trolls don't listen. REPORT AND IGNORE.

2 cultures... sort of like 2 tribes. We should do this survivor style :D

Yes, it is the responsibility of all members. Not just the mods, or just the mods and the vets.

I agree with everything that Banshee has said, and pretty much with the entire post. I have seen lots of off topic posts and more defined 'dos and don'ts' would be nice. The small descriptions are what people are not even reading. So we need a sticky FAQ or something, maybe just a little bigger font and better explained uses for the fourms.

Survivor? What do we win?

Yup, the discriptions are pretty vague if you ask me.

Do you know how many people out there don't even know what the 7th column is?

I think the problem is that people are just not reading the description of the forums. It does clearly state the purpose of each forum. However, most people are lazy and do not bother to look at multiple word sentences. And if you ever clicked on the person's name, more than half the time they are new to the website. There should probably be a page before the forums with an explanation of what the forum is used for, and any rules, guidelines, or expectations for the selected forum. Or anything stated in the above posts. Whatever works.

Personally I love how most of the people in the undergrounbd don't like the septagon, because mostly all I have seen is the intelegent and/or veterans post around here, and that usually means relevant and good topic discussions, with the occasionaly outbursts, of course.
