There are countless when I'd be in the Warthog in Halo 2 when I would realize that a rocket had been locked onto my Warthog. Try as I might, I was never able to get out of the Warthog in time to escape the rocket. Even if I got out of the Hog, the explosion of the Hog would still kill me. I was always annoyed with the feeling that once I knew a rocket was locked on it was too late, and there was nothing I could do.

To help solve this problem, I think there should be an eject button out of the Warthog in Halo 3. If you realize that there is a rocket locked onto you, you can do an emergency eject by pressing Y or something like that. Chief would quickly dive out of the vehicle clear of danger, to avoid automatic death. To compensate for the quick escape, it would take a little longer for chief to get to his feet. Just a minor thing I'd like to see in Halo 3. What do you guys think?

EDIT:

I am talking about an ejection maneuver where chief dives out of the warthog, not an ejection seat. Many seem to be confused on this point.

well i have to disagree, that would make it too easy to avoid rockets, it's part of the rockets nature to be hard to doge when locked.

Not a bad idea but most of the time you dont know a rocket is comin till you hear it launched. Depending on how far away its been launched you might have enough time to jump out otherwise you get hurt alil or die from the explosion.

sounds cool, Another Idea I had along these lines was that instead of being placed next to the warthog when you get out, Perhpase you could simply be standing in the driver seat when the controls are returned to you, so you could jump out whichever way you saw fit. Of course the whole splattering thing would have to be modified so you could actualy stand in the seat without killing yourself or flying out the back. this could allow for things like driving up to a building and jumping onto a ledge, or to jump acrost large gaps in the floor by using your momentum. one could also drive there warthog towards annother vehicle, alongside another vehicle, or under annother vehicle, and jump out and board said vehicle. as I said before, the physics would have to be improved to allow such things, as they where in halo 2 such things would be impossible.

Only aircraft and 007 cars should have ejection seats. Maybe a Banshee could have the ability to detach the top part and glide down to the ground or the Pelican could have an ejection seat, but no ejection seats for land-based, non-007 vehicles.

just make the warthog not press the breaks when u get out lol... the warthog stops to fast when ur out.

the rocket is locked onto warthog, so the warthog can carry on a lil instead of the breaks bein slammed (it seems that way)

you have it all wrong

you should be able to eject and your seat flies up and a parachute deploys.
you know this would be used in campaign if its in multiplayer.

Ex:

you have to drive a warthog over a gorge but the bridge goes out. The warthog cant make the jump. you eject and land safely.

Though I commend you for your lack of stupidity and decent grammar, both of which are uncommon in the Halo 3 forum, and with all due respect, your idea sucks.

And some of you will ask in various degrees of idiocy and grammar defficiency to justify my statement, I, with foresight, direct them to some of the above statements clearly explaining the faults with this idea. (i.e., You can still climb out of the warthog, you don't really know when you are being chased by a rocket, etc, etc)

Can any of you read? half the replies have been mentioning an ejector seat, which has absolutely nothing to do whith what the thread starter was talking about. He was talking about the ability to jump out and away from the warthog quickly, so as to avoid a rocket that you DID see coming (and yes, that does happen. you see a rocket from acrost the map, and you can realy do nothing about it). He made NO MENTION of an ejector seat. My hypothesis is that you all just read the word Ejection in the subject line and assumed he was talking about an ejector seat, which, granted, would be stupid. Please people, spend a half a minute and read the idea before shooting it down.

I think that they should get rid of the lock on capability, it makes it too easy. Remember how challenging the rockets were in Halo 1

He was talking about a button you press to eject yourself from the warthog, not for the warthog to eject you. note how he said "chief would quickly dive out of the vehicle clear of danger", rather than "the warthog seat would fling you into the air".

I am not "one of those people who suck at halo", I just do not like the feeling of helplessness I get when I know a rocket is locked onto me. Rockets are not easy to dodge in a warthog because warthogs are not very agile, in case you haven't noticed. And if you're one of the many people who think I'm recommending an ejection SEAT, you are wrong. That would be stupid. I am suggesting a diving maneuver where Chief dives out the side of the warthog. A person using a rocket launcher would still be able to kill a warthog passenger with this maneuver, he would just have to use more skill and stealth. There should be more skill required to use rockets against vehicles, because I feel they are kind of unfair in this situation.
