Before you think "Halo 3?", by "trilogy" I am referring to the books; The Fall of Reach, The Flood, and First Strike.

Now... my question is this. I am currently reading The Fall of Reach and constantly find myself preoccupied with work and such. It has taken me a month to get almost half way through it. I want to know if what I am reading is essential to read before reading First Strike. In other words, can I read First Strike without reading the first two books and still comprehend it? I would like to read it before the game is released this November.

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

Read the others first.... trust me you'll thank me later. They add SO MUCH MORE to the gameplay and the story... especially FoR.

Could I just read First Strike first and go back to the others later?

you'll have to read faster.
the flood isn't sooooo important, but you'll have to read Fall of Reach till the end.

It's a difficult question. They go over a lot of stuff from The Fall Of Reach, but it follows on from TFOR.
My advice is to read them all. I managed to do one a day - do it at the weekend, or before you go to sleep.

as long as u know the halo the flood story, u can go ahead and read first strike but the books just go into alot more detail and explain a whole lot.

I read First Strike first, and understood it. However, I would recommend you read Fall of Reach and if possible The Flood before you read First Strike. It will help you understand some of the plot points better.

i personally think fall of reach is the most important book to read since it tells you how everything in the entire story came to be. if you want to skip any book, skip the flood, because it is basically the game "halo" with a few extra things
