It's true, that would be asking the Mods a lot.

Locking repeat topics? *twitch*

Sorry, something in my eye.

Nearly every page of the 617 pages of 25 threads each... (that's over 15 thousand threads) were created because someone has something to say about the game that they know nothing about. All of that discussion is based on a couple of minutes of video and the name of the game. Nothing more.

It's all speculation, and in one way or another, it's nearly all duplication. sure, it could all be locked and believe it or not, we are working and moderating that forum... but it is a sandbox unto itself. It is what it is, and the members of this site and posters in that forum make it what you see. As long as a thread doesn't violate the site or forum rules, it is a valid thread.

With all due respect, Recon. You are saying that if there is an 'Official Halo 3 Ideas Thread' started by, oh, lets say GameJunkieJim, that it is acceptable to post a "Post your Ideas about Halo 3 Here" thread by "Anonymous User"?

Sure it will happen, but do we really need them there? No, and I also understand that the brunt of the problem lie on the shoulders of the community but that doesn't excuse its trespass; in fact the trespass in and of itself, is why a forum has Moderators.

I am just glad that the offensive threads and posters are delt with well. The Mods can only do so much, and they do a pretty good job. Try finding the line between where the Mods responsibilities start and the Communities responsibilites end. If anyone finds it, then they should get some kind of prize, like a digital cookie or some such.

An obvious duplication of such an open thread is lockable. If someone's thread simply says "hey post ur idaes here" then it's lockable, because there's quite a few easy-to-see ideas threads on the front page.

So, then Pretender, are you saying that only obvious repeat topics are lockable as opose to all repeat topics? Minus, of course, those with the same generalized idea, but mechanically different approaches or thoughts.

Location: Outlaws' Summit.

Halo 3 Forum was my home. Right when I was starting to feel a sense of companionship with that place, people actually started making threads about how my threads were wrong. That kind of stuff gets to you eventually. If anyone goes there often, you may have seen my "IT'S SO OBVIOUS..." thread. Well it gained 3400+ posts, not a lot of spam, and I never bumped it because I didn't want it to seem like I was attention whoring. I guess it was just something interesting to talk about. But then the real attention whores come in and try to put me down. There were about 4 or 5 threads made that basically said: "Iceman's an idiot, don't listen to his theories." I try to ignore it but it gets on you eventually. Not to mention harassment through PM's.

Why do that on a public forum? That's why I stopped posting there. I'll return eventually. When it gets less "hectic".

I understand that the mods have other forums to moderate...but do you think it could be possible to start locking threads in the Halo 3 Forum? Especially all the repeat topics. I think ti would actually make moderating that forum easier because there wouldn't be ten threads about the same topic being made every ten second.

How many times do you have to look at a thread with the title "OMG! THE MOST AWESOME IDEA EVER! READ!!!!!!1!!!!!oneoneoneone!!!!!11" and then you open it to see something like "What if they puts the honour gard staff in Hallo3?"

I mean...I've seen the same thread made ten times over and over in there constantly because most people are to ignorant to read the stickies and post in the right thread!

So could the moderators maybe crack down on the Halo 3 Forum a little buit harder? Maybe hand out a few BLs and lock a few threads? Or is the Halo 3 Forum destined to become another Zanzibar?

I agree, the Halo 3 thread has been like a bit of messy forum of repeated topics and (for some reason) Flammers.

I havent been around that long so I dont really have anything to compare it to, but I would say it's chaotic at best. I'm one of the folks that has jumped on the bandwagon with the announcement of Halo 3. I'd read through the updates and the forums for awhile but never been active in them. Now reading through the forum that I was orginally most interested in is like searching through the trash can for the fork I dropped in there when I was cleaning off my plate. Basically you wade through the crap to find something interesting and hope that it doesnt get overrun with psychotic ramblings and attacks on the poster as opposed to discussion of his topic. Iceman, your posts and theories were good stuff, its a shame that those of us who enjoy reading them and talking about them have to miss out because a few thousand pre-teens would rather scream about bringing back the pistol and killing of the arbiter.
