One of my small gripes with the multiplayer maps in Halo 2 was that they weren't interactive enough. As in the map was just used as a battlefield, and not as a tool or weapon itself.

Zanzibar is a good example of map interactivity. It had the bridge you had to shoot to get the sword and it had the switch to open the gate. Waterworks also had those stalactites that were only rarely put to good use. The train in Terminal is probably the most obvious and advertised interaction. A great example of the map as a weapon would be the giant mines in Containment. There are a few other small examples, but nothing significant enough to turn the battlefield into a tool.

For Halo 3, I propose that they try to make the map a weapon. Examples would be things like bridges that can collapse on people (MechAssult), natural tunnels that can cave in, trees that can topple over, etc. The possibilities are endless.

If you've got other ideas for interaction, or if you want to contest the idea, then you can post that here.

I have only two words to say in response to this thread - land mines. All right, thanks for hearing me out.

I think that is a good idea but that brings up distructable enviornments and how that would add to the realisim/fun of the game.

That kind of reminds me off Crysis (Yes, for the PC, don't beat me!) Everything will be destructible, shacks, trees, ice. Although actually support and architectual physics would be nice, like, if you blew out one pillar, the place around it would sort of cave in, or atleast some dirt would. And if you threw a bunch of grenades in a dirt tunnel, it would cave in the middle. Also, more fussion cores, those proved pretty deadly if one got hit near you. Or maybe fuel barrels or propane tanks. Also, I remember in Far Cry, you could push a barrel down a hill, and it would actually kill or severly damage anyone who got hit by it.

How about the ability to shoot down things that are suspended in the air such as the construction in headlong?

along with map destructivity, wat about natural changes in the ENVIROMENT! like, accelerate game speed and the day can turn to night and night to day etc. or, have it just start raining and it can affect your visibility. thats wat would make the game.

Yes! Weather settings was something they forgot in Halo 2, and something I forgot as well. I liked the snow on Lockout, but imagine if the snow intensified into blizzard-like weather. Visibility would be dimished, and would definitely make the game a little more challenging. Of course, you could always disable this feature if you didn't like it.

That wouldn't be bad, depends where the map was. It would be awesome if a map like Backwash, like if it was raining, and when you ran through puddles or mud, it would make a sound and hinder your speed. Or if your on an ice or snowy level, if you ran on the icy part, you would sort of slide if you suddenly stopped. It's the little things like that that can make a good game into a great game.

Definitley. Maybe even if you saw someone running on thin ice, you could shoot it and they'd fall through and freeze/die by the guardians. Thanks for posting!

There was a thread a good while back about the effects on weather. It was a really good discussion, and I remember some of the ideas they came up wtih.

For instance, imagine on a map where it rains. The rain would drip on your visor, almost Metroid Prime, or Star Wars Republic Commando.

And then it would considerably dampen your view on a map where it is snowy, like you can't see that far. And the Master Cheif's suit would start turning white.

So I can't rememer anything else ,but it'll come back to me.

Another nice idea they could've used in Burial Mounds would be if the asteroids/flying debris fell onto the battlefield in random locations, killing those who it landed it on or altering the ground where it landed.

Metroid Prime is a really good example. I remembered how different things could fog up your visor or make it wet. Things like weather would really take Halo 3 to a whole new level, but it's understandable how some might feel it deters from the original game. Therefore, the weather should be able to be toggled.

Keep posting ideas!!

Falling debris would be sick. How about certain walls that were thin enough, or damaged enough already that holes could be blown out of them.

Definetly, toggle ability and for custom games only.

But think about it, you could have a thunderstorm going on or something. That would just add a little depth to the game.

By far this idea was my favorite on the forums.

The thin walls reminds of the tents in Far Cry. Since tents are made out of a cloth material, you were able to shoot through them.

I think that some thin walls in Halo 3 should be penetrable by a sniper bullet.

The interactions don't have to be complex at all--they can be fairly simple. Things like doors being blown off if you throw a grenade near them. Maybe some crates opening to reveal ammo or a weapon.

Obvious things should also happen. For example, if you're hiding behind a wooden door, if the enemy keeps shooting, eventually the door should deterioriate and slowly allow the bullets to penetrate it.

This is what I am talking about! I want more Item destructables, such as when the take is firing at buildings/vehicles/structures it doesnt do any damage, but it would be a welcome sight to see things actually crumble and enhance/degrade gameplay stratagies.

Something cool might be to have totally desctructalbe enviroments where the map can just be ripped and torn to all hell which could make for in interesting game. It would also be interesting to see walls/ground form craters from bullets/rocket fire and maybe create dust and dirt screens for a breif second and maybe even creat a defalate.

Thinking about things like this give me great Ideas, just imagine if you could destroy the wheel in zanzibar being "set free" and toppling over the enemies! Just cool.

These are all really good ways to make the maps for interactive in a passive sense. But how about some ideas on how to make the maps act actively, and not passive. That is, making the map an actual weapon that can be used against your enemy. An example was the fusion cores that were littered on some maps.

Yes, we need to get maximum penetration from these guns, especially the rocket launcher and sniper rifle. This also brings to mind Battlefield 2. In BF2, if you hid behind a sheet metal fence, you could still be show, along with wooden crates. That may be stretching it, but just some food for thought. Also, if there was any canvas or fabrics, if you shot it, it should not only go right through it, but tear a gaping hole in it, depending on how much you shoot it.

These ideas may seem a little perfect, but I think we see all these featues in other games and want them to be in Halo 3, which is most likely not going to happen, maybe a good amount, but not all. Anyways...yeah, just by 10 cents ;)

These are ideas are great changes to the game. They can seriously add some depth to the game, while maintaining the integrity of the original game. Any other contributions?

i think it would be just as cool if the vehicle explosions were ramped up, like say the ghosts or wraiths second explosion actually be able to kill someone... imagine u blow up a ghost as three of ur enemies come near you, they kill you, only to find the ghost's engine goes critical. it does its wierd richochet thing while the three men try and dodge it, and it explodes, killing them...that would be awesome
