Is there any sort of hint or relation to the novel Halo: First Strike and Halo 3?

probably not, first strike happened between Halo: CE and Halo 2. but the stuff in the book may have some effect in Halo 3.

If you haven't read the books, here's an extremely brief summary (if that). The first book, The Fall of Reach, is about the Spartan Program, John's (Master Cheif's) Training, Introduction of the Covenant. The Second book (The Flood) is the equivalent to Halo 1. The third, First Strike, describes Master Cheif's attempts at preventing the Covenant from finding Earth, Johnson's Escape from Halo, and Lot's of other stuff that you should find out yourself by reading the books.

No, most major clues point to Halo 2 really.

In "First Strike" Kelly and Dr. Halsey leave on secret business. Could this have something to do with the S-III's (assuming Akerson isn't involved with them). If that is true, then Halo 3 might have much more in store than we may believe...

The only one that really directly related the most was "The Flood" (the second novel) to the first Halo game. I think they are making more novels that will revolve around Halo 2 and Halo 3. At least I hope. I saw on Amazon.com some information about a new Halo novel coming out HERE , but that topic has already been discussed in another thread and forum...

the closest game to first strike would be Halo 2.... Halo 1 would be "The Flood"
the "relations" of the story lines basically stop at the name Halo, the book The Flood being the exception.

I believe "Ghosts of Choral" (on the way) will basically be Halo 2 in book form. If they follow their previous pattern, that is. "The Fall of Reach" was a story of the Spartan's beginnings, "The Flood" was everything that happened directly after TFoR (also a story line linear to Halo 1's), "First Strike" explained everything immidiately after John's (Master Cheif's) escape (It basically connects Halo Combat Evolved with Halo 2). "The Ghosts of Choral" should delve a little deeper in plot than if you were to just play Halo 2 campaign.

As for the books following the story of the games (or vice versa), the Halo game franchise basically shows a smaller view of the halo universe. There is nothing in the games that discredit the books, and nothing in the books to discredit the games. By reading the books, you are simply given a larger amount of information. The games allow for a quick run through of Master Cheif's interactions with the Covenant, Halo, Flood, and so on.

Yeah, I agree. The novel could also be a build up to Halo 2, and then another novel might be released covering most of the actual Halo 2 story. Sort of like with the first series. But who knows...
