Here's a little tip: on bungie.net, a 7 day ban is your warning. Do you know who's idea that was? No, it wasn't Shishka, or Stosh. That was my idea. They just are following my guidelines. So, think of a 7 day ban like this - sure you got banned and you think you deserve a warning, but if I had caught you, I'd probably give you a "warning" of a 1 month ban. I'm waaaay meaner than the moderators - my theory is if you're doing something that hurts the enjoyment of this by even 1 person, you don't deserve to participate here.
So, consider a 7 day ban a good thing - because it is the equivalent of a moderator slapping you across the face at a party and telling you to shut it before they call security (i.e., permanently ban you).Am I to understand a one week ban is the shortest time span a moderator can ban for? To me that seems a bit harsh. Granted, a one day ban may go unnoticed by some who do not post daily, but for those who do, a 7 day ban can be absolutely unfair. Perhaps a banning system could be implemented where someone was banned for one day starting the next time they logged on. Or perhaps the ban could last a period inversely proportional to how many posts the person made in the last week. Frequent posters would be banned for less time, and people who post not very often would be banned for longer. This would make the banning equally hurtful to all people, not more so to those who choose to participate more.
Granted, there are times when people cross that line where you'd kick their ass if they were in front of you, and those people have no excuse for being jerks and deserve what they get.
P.S. Before the new Bungie.net, trolling noobs would run rampant for weeks before Achronos would perma-ban them. The enforcement now IS rather strict compared to what it used to be. And the site was way better back then, as far as community knit-ness goes. Bring back the word noob so we can slap down the fools who so warrant being called one! Viva-la-noob!
