Subject: Rifles, what are some cool ideas for Rifles?

I like the Battle Rifle, but at times I wish it was fully automatic or semi.

I personally would love the new AR to have full automatic and then the BR to be a rifle where you have semi-auto firing and then the burst shot.

Similar to Battlefield 2, the Assault Rifle in that game has a 3-shot burst mode and then a single shot mode.

I also would love to see iron sight aiming instead of scope aiming. I think that iron sight aiming would add more skill to shooting.

This is Halo, not Medal of Honor.

True. CoD and Medal of Honor aims down the sight. I still think it would be more realistic. Both the SMG and Shotgun have them. Maybe the non-scoped weapons could (only Human). Maybe not.

I hate people like you. The people who say, "No, we can't do stuff like that people do in wartime cause it's already been done in other games". People like you always say no to ideas and compare them to other games. If you're going to say no to an idea, then bring up a good valid reason why it's a bad idea. Don't just say "No, this isn't Battlefield/Medal of Honor/Splinter Cell/Rainbow Six, etc.

I like the idea of iron sights on certain weapons. Just not on weapons such as the Sniper Rifle, BR55, etc. Maybe on the Magnum, Shotgun, or a fully automatic rifle if it's in the game.

Anyway, that's my thoughts.

I agree you should be able to aim down the sight, but dude. Don't hate him just because he has his own reasons for not wanting something. He does have a good point; it would be like copying another game.

  • 07.26.2006 5:47 PM PDT

It's not about copying another game.

Iron sight aiming is awesome. So what if COD2 has it or Battlefield 2 has it. It's a great feature and adds more depth to gameplay.

Example:

Take the BR for instance, take off the scope and now you have to aim down the iron sights if you want precision aiming.

In Battlefield 2 on the PC, I can use my crosshairs or I can switch to iron sight aiming and get a better shot off.

The scopes are cool, but I think iron sight aiming would be a cool option too.

Sniper rifles should always have scopes, iron sight aiming wouldnt work on it.

It wouldn't be copying from the game, it would be copying things from real life. A lot of weapons, even now in this day and age, use iron sights.

And, well, I don't exactly "hate" him. I just hate it when they say this isn't so and so as an argument. If you disagree with an idea, and plan on explaining, at least give a valid reason. If you don't have one, just say no.

Why would you need to aim down the sight when you have a steady recticle and zoom?

And different modes of firing doesn't really seem like something that belongs with the halo style.

  • 07.26.2006 5:53 PM PDT

I think as far as the rifles go, if they keep the BR in the game, keep a scope on it, it looks like a M4 rifle in a way anyway.

Take the AR and make it iron sight aiming.

Basically like this:

Battle Rifle - scoped -
Firing Modes: 3 round burst and semi-auto

Assault Rifle - non scoped iron sight aiming -
Firing Modes: automatic and semi-auto

That would kick butt!

Scopes are cool, but iron sight aiming would add more depth to Halo.

Every rifle in Halo 2 has a scope.

The AR in Halo CE didnt have a scope but you also couldn't aim with it.

Ok this is so you don't have to hate me. Halo uses a recticle for aiming, they used it in the first game, they used it in the second game, so lets scrap it for WW2 style shooter setup for Halo 3 because it's more realistic, especially for a game with a cyborg soldier 500 years in the future. Or Bungie will keep doing things they way they have been. And there is your valid reason.

Not saying scrap all scopes all together or even crosshairs.

It's like this, the current BR has two aiming modes, the crosshairs and then the scope.

My idea was to have a rifle that has no scope and has the cross hairs and then for more precision aiming, you can aim down the iron sights.

There can still be another rifle with a scope.

This is in no way to make Halo 3 a WW2 shooter.

you're only comparing it to that because COD2 is the main game played with iron sight aiming.

Modern Combat on the 360 is a joke because they didn't put iron sight aiming like it's PC game has.

Battlefield 2 on the PC is awesome for its iron sight aiming, it's been in all the BF games.

For the new Assault Rifle, (which we don't even now if it's going to make it into the game or not for sure) i would put a switch for "Auto" "Semi-Auto" and "burst" I also think that it should have a scope, usable only when in burst or or semi mode.

you should all click the "bobaluga" link in my Sig!!

I think 3 modes is a bit much, specially when in a battle trying to cycle through those modes.

I think 2 would be enough.

Cool ideas though.

I hear what you're saying, but it seems so out of place to me not to have a scope on a mid-range or longer capable gun in Halo, it just seems to old skool for the game.

Sorry, I didn't mean I hate you, I meant I hate it when people do that.

And, thanks for a valid reason. XD

The battle rifle already is semi automatic. It shoots 3 automatic rounds, with each burst being semi automatic.

The original AR was fully automatic, so the AR in the trailer will probably be fully automatic as well.

It was a big change not having the scope on the pistol, but everyone got used to it.

I would love iron sight aiming. It would add some cool elements to the game.

3 round burst is not semi automatic. I see that your saying it fires 3 rounds at a time in a semi-auto mode, but what I meant was have a rifle that fires single shots at a time in a semi-auto mode. not like the sniper rifle either. It would be like pulling the trigger really fast and having single shots come out. Add some recoil in there and it will make it skill full on trigger pulls.

the more furiously you pull the trigger, the more less accurate you are.

Actually, I kind of agree with Zer0. I don't think that the iron sight should be on the BR55 if it makes a return in Halo 3. Just on maybe the Magnum or a full automatic rifle.

If there is iron sight aiming on any rifle, I want to be able to shoot in single shots.

:o)

I do it on Battlefield 2 on my PC, it's an awesome feeling having the control over the accuracy of your shots.

I think the no scope option would be a much better suited as a multiplayer option, then a campaign thing. If Bungie put it in the game, I think that would be the most likely spot to find it.
