Your entire post only holds true if the Covenant control those ships. There is no evidence those ships arent controlled by Flood, humans, or Pfhor.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed, knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each brave fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives: not men, or flags.
-The Next War

good point
he doesn't seem to worried about a hell breakin loose...

if I saw a machine ready to fsk me up i would start killin all kinds of stuff and be like "BLAZE OF GLORY!!!!"

I think that the Halo 3 trailer's real meaning was not to show that the Ark is on Earth, but to show a fledgling alliance between Humans and the outcast Covanent. I mean, what would be the point to show that the Ark is on Earth if that was already strongly hinted at at the end of Halo 2?

The fact that the Covanent ships and fighters do not fire on the Master Chief has bothered me since I first saw the trailer. What better opportunity to kill the most hated Human in the galaxy than with a fleet of ships (even if they are an excavation force they probably still have weapons on them) and banshees that would tip the odds almost impossibly far in the way of the Covanent.

Maybe the outcast Covanent are cooperating with the Humans to activate the Ark to kill the loyal Covanent, and who knows, maybe Earth is protected from the blast so the now allied Humans and outcast Covanent will pull back to Earth to escape the blast, and then mount a defense against the advancing Flood.

The bottom line is the fact that the Covanent don't attack the Chief, even though they have a golden opportunity to do so is too much of a coincidence to simply say that 'they don't care about the Chief' or 'they don't know that he's there'. I think that the true purpose of the trailer is to show that there is an alliance, or at least a cease-fire between the outcast Covanent and Humans.

Comments and concerns are welcome.
Why why why you ask becuase they didnt want to give away any plot thats why the covenant "ships" didnt attack

To tell us Halo 3 will come out.

that doesn't make any sense. the covies were hostile in both Halo 2 trailers, so why wouldn't they be hostile in Halo 3 unless something else was going on?
Because there wasnt any alliance in halo 2 or 1 well there still any alliance but still

Actualy I think the real reason was to make people go crazy with anticipation for Halo 3 by releaseing the release year. I only really showed some glowing thing and something rising out of a big pool of water and Cortana saying mysterious things. Builds the hype up.

The excavation fleet on the Covenant occupied Earth is most likely hostile. It's only 1/3 through the game.

It was probably just there for dramatic effect. It wouldn't look good to have Banshees circling randomly around firing potshots while the MC tries to shoot them down like it is in the games(would you be even easily able to try to get a bead down on a person on the ground in a fighter jet at full throttle?). The trailer is kind of what you expect to see movie-wise. People are even going to go more crazy going "!!11!omfg!! is teh mC ki1led??!!11..oMg!" if MC is thrown around like a ragdoll in a plasma fireball when several Banshee cannon shots vaporize rock and dirt around him. The Covenant ships are too far away, leaving only several Banshees that fly over him. Granted, they could've strafed him, but what can one little MC do now to stop them?

Who knows, they really could've been blind to miss him.

Zerogreenchief is eh pretty cool guy, eh trolls people and doesn't afraid of anything.

Maybe they just felt like it because it looked dramatic

it is true that the MC can't really stop them, but wouldn't the covanent kill him out of revenge for destroying the first Halo? and if they are still hostile, why would the MC go out there to potentially commit suicide against a covanent fleet, unless he wasn't afraid of being shot at in the first place...

Well, we all know the MC's habit of pushing his luck when it comes to suicidal approaches...
