Ok I've beaten all the single player levels and now fancy myself worthy for multiplayer. However when I play online I usually get a serious whoopin. Now either one or more of the following is true: I'm not as good as I think I am (most likely), everyone else is infinitely better than me (probable), people cheat (somewhat likely), or a combination of everything. I like to have fun when I play online not scream at the computer and throw my keyboard around. Any multiplayer suggestions would be helpful.

What difficulty level did you beat the game?
also people aren't computers- I would say a good dose of all three.
Try finding smaller games online (like4-6 players), practice, practice, practice.
Learn the pistol, then learn the other weapons.

All difficulty levels for single player. Actually I tend to do better with more people, I rank in the middle when playing with 14 or more. But I still get frustraded when I get picked off with a pistol at great distances and I empty a full clip into someone and their still standing.

Pay attention to your ping and how it affects your leading. Memorize that leading distance. Don't walk in straight lines, especially when confronting an enemy. And as suggested by another member, learn to use the pistol as your primary weapon in wide-open maps. It is a necessary evil in the original Halo.
