The general activity for the Seventh Column after the "New Hotness part II" is abysmally low. I am simply wondering if it's culture shock. My theory is that the adjustment time is being augmented by the impending release of Halo 2, and a general malaise to the new formats. The latter of which will be cured with the theme builder to an extent, and the former of which will be cured on November 9th.

The meat of the question, is : Was it too much change too soon?

While I'm on this funky portable computer, I'll answer: I think it's just a matter of time. I know for a fact that some great users from the previous column have yet to sign on and see the new one, when they do they'll probably maintain their previous standards and up the activity. It's just a matter of time.

It was a lot to handle. Our first reaction was that this was the final version and it was staying this way, so we got sort of mad. But Bungie says that they will be making modifications and such so I guess we'll just have to wait.

it was fine except some of the big problems of figuring out were everything came from.

Nope, I can take anything Bungie can throw at me. Halo 2 just may take a little while for me to grasp playing it.

I think it's more like too little too soon. I have no doubt that Bungie will eventually have the Column humming again, but I think most of us thought it would have a few more bells and whistles when it arrived. We had a very active chapter, but it has turned into a tomb. It is a lot less "surfable" than it used to be.

The front page no longer has polls, last five forum posts, recent activity, an event scheduler, database links on the sidebars or something that tells you who else is online from your chapter. If you want to know what has happened lately, you have to click on every database. Of course, things have become so slow that I don't bother doing that anymore. The new admin tools are nice, but I have next to nothing to administrate.

Like I said, I am sure that Bungie will get the Column up to speed again and anyone who was a serious fan will return. But, personally, it has been anything but too much too soon.

My problem isn't that I am not facile with the new system, but the fact that the front page contains so much less information. I really do believe it will improve. Bungie has done well with this site, and I'm sure that over time it will improve.

I mentioned the lack of front page information on another thread and Sketchfactor replied that the front page has all of the same information it used to except the sidebars. Well, that is no different than saying that the front page has a heck of a lot less information than it used to.

Our chapter is a good one. Almost everyone in it attends our LAN parties. We had huge databases, fanfiction, and an active forum. I'm sure that we will have all that again, but with the way it is set up now, it isn't as easy to check in and see if there was activity, and if so where. Right now the front page is quite boring. It is only news and hottest forum thread. Given the options, there aren't a ton of ways to dress that up.

I'm not worried about our members. Unlike a lot of chapters, we see eachother face to face often enough. In the mean time, I am sure that the Column will slowly improve. I think that the blandness of the front page just caught a lot of people off guard. It didn't help that it was called "the new hotness".

I do like the new tools, and there are things we can do to try and make up for the gaps. My point is that it is definitely not too much too soon.

I'm glad to be getting the feedback and opinions -- It's helping me understand why activity is so low. --

As for my personal opinion, I'm glad that the activity meter isn't there anymore - because of the 'Better than You' aspect this avoids.

Awesome guys!

The power thing is still there - lots base power on member size, which is incorrect, as demonstrated in most cases.
