Phrog pilots, reckless and free. We would strap into our birds, set the engines on fire, and leave these earthly bonds with a chorus of WHOP WHOP WHOP. Akin to beating your chest and howling in defiance at the rest of the world.

I can understand why you would come to The Maw for computer advice but unfortunately this post has nothing to do with Halo on the PC. I'm going to send it to The Flood where it might get some answers.

Ok, I am now having very annoying computer problems. I at first thought it was an incident with Battlefield 2, but I am now convinced it's a hardware problem. I was just playing UT2004, and in the past weeks, it was freezing a lot and dumping me back to the desktop. I installed Rainbow Six covert ops (Yeah I know I'm behind I should get counter strike...) and after about 20 mins my computer up and restarts! Right in the middle of a game!!! I log in, it gets to the desktop, and just as it gets to the desktop, it restarts again! I finally reset the thing, and it starts normally. I come back to the desktop and it says that the "system has recovered from a serious error". I look at it more closely, instead of just clicking ok. It says it was caused by a hardware device. At this point, here be my computer specs 'cause I figure you'd want them

CPU: 2.09 GHz AMD Sempron
Ram: 1 gig
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9550
Soundcard: Realtek AC97 Audio
Now awhile back someone told me ATI cards are real buggy, so I think that might be the problem. But I don't want to fix it before I'm sure that that's the problem. Me fixing or replacing the innards of a computer is the same as an ape disarming a nuke. Clueless. I would have to call my uncle the computer wiz and have him explain to me what to do, but he is a very busy person right now. So can someone please confirm or deny my suspicions that it's the video card that is giving me grief? Or is it the hard drive? Help!

Make sure all hardware in the computer are plugged into their appropriate slots firmly. Also, if you have done any overclocking, I suggest returning it to the stock clock speed.

If you have bought any new hardware recently and had it installed, take it out and see if it affects anything.

I wonder if the Wolf thinks the Moon listens when he howls at it.

you have a trojan. some trojans just keep making your pc restart and restart and the only way to get it to stop is to disconect the powercord. im afraid if u DO have that virus there is no way you can remove it because you wont have enough time to install anitvirus software before your pc restarts again.

I don't overclock. That voids teh warrenty, I can't afford a new CPU of that caliber. I haven't thought of the power supply yet. But I doubt it. It looks fine to me. And it's most definetly not a virus. I got it to stop restarting by resetting it, and did a virus scan. It came up clean. However, I remember reading something about CPU overheating associated with the latest version of the ATI video driver. That might be somthin. Oh well, I can solve THAT by pointing a fan at it. But I still can't figure out the exact problem...

Videocard driver updates is what I suspect...

And this little tool is good to see if your computer is lacking what it needs to run your games. Personally your videocard does seem a little under par...

I cannot belive I am posting this in THE FLOOD, but here we go.

UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS

My computer had the EXACT same problem, update your video divers, if that doesn't work, downgrade them, do whatever, just get some that work. I had the same problem on my desktop.

Hmm....you should do this:

Go to a DOS prompt and type "format c:". Any problems you are experiencing will cease within a few minutes.
