Subject: Sniper Rifle question!

Posted by: grumpy hermit
You misunderstood genius. I am a 25 still because I have not played ranked games since becoming a 25. I was guessing at where I would be had I continued, due to the level of others that I have played and beaten lately (unranked). After a match and before(360) you see other players' level, and this is what I was basing it on. Frankly, I don't care what level I am, since it really does not correctly label an individual's skill.

There are three reasons why -

Going prone and using the bipod is impractical to use, since Halo is too fast-paced. The bipod is entirely cosmetic.

Secondly, what is a bipod used for? To steady your aim while in a prone position. Spartans don't need to steady their aim, the sniper rifle's aim is already quite stable and accurate in the hands of a skilled marksmen while moving and jumping! Now, a bipod would work in a game like America's Army, which they have, and for good reason, because, like in real life, it's very hard to hit anything with your gun when you're moving and jumping, and you'd be taken out very easily if you tried to do that.

Thirdly, I read somewhere that the UNSC never uses it because of wear and tear or that it bends the barrel of the rifle and yada yada.

Yeah the only time I saw anyone use it is in the E3 trailer for Halo 2 which was switched to the cutscene right befor outskirts in the full game. When they say "Recommend mission abort" and Johnson says "We're going in!"

You get my point though - UNSC Marines might need to use them, but Master Chief's aim is quite steady and stable even when he's jumping around. Using the bipod just isn't practical.

Like in paintball, the bipod is useless.

Halo is too fast-paced for a prone feature. If you want stealth, that's what crouching slowly is for.

And I also remember reading somewhere that the bipod does more harm than good, as the ammo case touches the ground while in prone position, damaging it and causing significant wear and tear to it. That's why the UNSC usually don't use it.

but i want it in Halo 2 PC.
OmniosSpartan, this, along with many of your other suggestions for H2PC, likely won't happen. It's about as ridiculous when you said you wanted a health system back. It's just not going to happen. Besides the fact that H2 is too fast-paced for health packs and going in prone position using the sniper rifle's bipod, it's important Bungie keeps the same features when they finish porting it to Halo 2, and add to it.

With all the updates they've done to balance the multiplayer in Halo 2, putting in a prone position would just be too impractical for Bungie to accept the idea.

realism.
thats the real answer. whoever was working on the 3d model of that sniper rifle thought it would look realistic so he added it.

In my opinion stealth isn't generally a tactic in Halo. You just charge in, and headshot everyone. Simple, and it never fails.

What? Play a game? FOR FUN???
This concept of fun confuses and infuriates me!

Stealth not a tactic? Thats like saying the Warthog isnt a vehicle.
Dude, if your on radar, and the enemy can see you, would you
A. Crouch, sneak up on the enemy, and smack em in the back
or
B. Charge headlong into a bunch of enemys and get your ass handed to you on a silver platter.

And you can't just 'BOOM headshot!' everyone. In games like CTF, more skill is required. Just sitting, racking up kills means nothing on CTF except that you don't know how to play the game type is all.

Stealth is a tactic...just not in Halo. Sneak all you want, but if I can still land my headshot, you'll die regardless. Also, if you have a sniper, you don't charge headlong into a bunch of people, you'll kill them twice before you get close, unless you suck. A push can be held with a sniper better than it can be done with rockets, just takes a little skill is all.

And Halo, let alone Halo 2 is just too fast paced for a practical use of the sniper rifle's bipod. Sorry, dudes, it just wouldn't work. It may be cool, and it may look cool, but it would probably just be an unbalanced, useless gimmick which nobody uses, which isn't cool.

Yes, but Halo isn't America's Army! Halo is much more fast-paced and it's not all about taking cover like AA is!

lets not get off subject.

i think they should allow a prone in halo, after playing aa for a while ive found that halo is a very unrealistic game (aside from the fact that it takes place in the future), there is no prone option, while a spartan might not need any help supporting his/her weapon, there is this thing called stealth, and when your lying on the ground its harder to see u than if your crouching.

since the sniper is standard issue (though i doubt even a futristic military would issue a .50 cal anit-material rifle for its standard long range 'sniper' rifle), it isnt hard to understand why a bipod is featured on the it, but it is hard to understand why u r unable to use it. masterchief may not need it, but that doesnt mean he cant use it.

Realism doesn't matter in a game with aliens, slip space and a long lsot race that built Halo like worlds as weapons.
