You can join your own DS.

However, if you are trying to join your DS from the same machine that is running the DS (this is very bad performancewise, btw), you will run into a problem where the DS is listening for incoming connections on the same port that the client is trying to use to connect. Thus, there is a conflict of interest. You need to read up on the command line switches for Halo, as I don't personally know the one used to change the ports that Halo listens/connects on. I think it's something like "-port xxxx" where xxxx=the new port number for the Halo client to use. In any case, I'm sure you could find other websites with solutions to this problem by using Google. From what I've seen on other msgboards, its a fairly common problem for new Halo DS admins. ;)

I'm guessing your ded is running on the same machine you use for halo? If so change the port halo uses.

right click your halo shortcut and add the following in the target field after the startup path.

-port 2301

your target field should look like this:

For HaloCE:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\haloce.exe" -Console -Nojoystick -Novideo -port 2301

For HaloPC:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe" -Console -Nojoystick -Novideo -port 2301

Edit:- Leoht beat me to it kinda ;)

Hehe, that's alright. You actually told him how to do it. I was off reading up on the DS FAQ, verifying what I knew. I was about to edit my post with the required info, but no problem now. GJ ;)
