some of my XBL buddies and i were talking, discussing how you can "talk to your team" if you push the left arrow on the D-pad.... we've never found it to be amazingly succesfull, so we thought of why not have it perpetually on team chat? and make the D-pad directions pull up a private line between 1 teamate, (ie: open a line to the sniper asking for covering fire, instead of attracting your whole teams attention)

You could custimize it in the players list and have it displayed to the right of their name when you push back to check the score. Obviously it wouldnt work very well for when u have more than 4 teamates, but if you have friends you always play with you could have them permanently set to a direction, sure would help when training with a specific team for tourneys.

just brainstorming, what do you guys think?

I think if you hit the White button it works also.

yeah, white and left on the D-pad are the same thing, just they dont seem to always get the message to Everyone on your team. might, but it is annoying to hear the click before and after every sentence to your team

It is not a bad Idea, but I don't think that Bungie would do it.

If Team Swat became ranked, would there still be no shields?

Amazing!

It's the White/left trigger buttons and the UP button on the D-pad.

And slash the idea. The one in place is fine.

Four Hotkeys for communication. I can see the advantages, but I can also see some disadvantages.

Personally, I think that it should work like the books, if you look at a certain character (a teammate in your crosshairs) and you hit the comm button, you only talk to that person. That way, you have proximity voice, private voice, and team voice, even though there could be problems with that. Closed enviroments with people running in front of eachother. If you have a good team though, then communication isn't a problem, since you're not all trying to use it at the same time.

Four Hotkeys for communication. I can see the advantages, but I can also see some disadvantages.

1. Unrelenting harassment of a team mate being made easier and out of earshot of others? ex "Whaa I want to use the sniper rifle" *melee* "Whaa!"
2. People accusing others of unrelenting harassment to the team, who proceed to leave feedback without any real evidence?
3. Games where there are more than 4 people on the team?

Exactly.

IMO, the system in place is quite good, I never have any problems with it. However, I really wish the proximity mic on team games could be taken off, because I hate it when the enemy hear's my team's game plan or can talk smack to me because they "owned" me with a sword.

Agreed. I think you should have team chat for your teammates, and the other team can't hear at all. I'm sure Bungie could come up with an explanation... it's not a far stretch to assume MC has encrypted radio comms.
