Having Zanzibar and New Mombasa as two different forums was great, now you see all kinds of stuff in New Mombasa, and you go from Skull hunt to -blam!- GOD DAMN MODDERS ARE -blam!-S!!!!!! The Classifieds sucks, no one cares about the Classifieds. It is there for a reason, but unless you advertise you are giving away free 2 months no one gives a damn. Optimatch is all about making Team Swat ranked. The underground gets all the spam that doesn't even belong there. The Septagon is the only forum to hold intelligent conversation in

The Fresh Bnet Feedback Thread looked promising, but once again I think it was a lack of participation that made it futile. I posted this back in early June referring to something posted back in late November '05 (which incidentally was the last golden text in the thread). So, I think that's a good example of an effort that doesn't come to anything, which then proposes the question; was it just for show?

If you notice, that thread isn't even at the top of The Septagon anymore. Maybe people have realised that it doesn't come to anything.

dmbfan, I am not blaming the moderators in any way. The moderators are the best I've seen on any site, without question.

I simply feel that there aren't -enough- moderators that can hold their own in a discussion about Halo 2 to control 1,000,000+ members that can (or think they can). The small mod count and method of recruitment is, I feel, not adequate for the number of people here.

Allow me to be perfectly clear. The existing moderators are not to blame in any way... They are fighting a valiant battle for a losing cause. I just mean that a new 'wave' of moderators, in line with the new wave of fans, is a neccessary addition, along with any amount of increase in community interaction from Bungie itself that is possible.

If that means, "I'm going to post a link to this in one of the other forums", don't. That is just cross-posting and spam.

This is the forum where this belongs, and this is the only forum it should be in.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

No, this is also part of the problem. Who exactly is harming the community? And you actually know specific members, do you honestly think they'll listen?

Actually, I'm posting it in a group. A group who was dedicated to helping the 7th Column...but was spammed half to death by these idiots.

They think that they're helping the community by launching Group Wars...onto 'corrupted' groups, but yet...they're the ones causing the corruption. It has gone on for long enough.

More Halo-savvy moderators means more control and interaction in the Halo parts of the site, and that means a better community.

I'm going to start with this one first. I think that I am the Halo savvy moderator. Of all the games I probably have most knowledge of Halo. And i spend a great deal of time in the New Mombasa and Halo 3 forum. But I don't see this as the problem. We don't need moderators that have knowledge of game A or B, we just need people that know what to do.
That said, time for me to go ranting.

I'm not sure where to start actually. Should i start with the fact that there was a time when I enjoyed to part of chapters? Why not. Creating a chapter was one of the coolest things I did when I joined. It was awesome. Being part of chapters was awesome. Sure, there was competition between chapters. Newnab and I were always competing. But it was all in good fun. We both had joined each others chapter. We laughed as one of stole the idea of the other. We made threads about how much Newnab's chapter sucked, or mine. Did that make us mad? Nope. We both could laugh about it. It was friendly competition.
Chapter invites weren't that bad either. usually it was someone who needed some help with his chapter, and most of the time, people were willing to help out and people thanked each other, either for helping out, or for the invite.

Bungie.net looked different too. The white background, the gray threads, the orange names. The main poll was always hilarious (why didn't Flower Bunny of Carnage win?). But somewhere along the way, things went wrong. Or something was left behind. I don't know. I think it's the Seventh Column that was left behind. And common sense and manners. We lost those too.

Actually, that's wrong. The Seventh Column is still here. it simply is dead. And we didn't even bother to give it a proper funeral.

I still care though. You all know about the Council, I don't need to explain that one. But now people don't seem to care. They don't want such a thing. Mostly because it seems to cause elitism. Because the councilors would be power hungry.
Honestly, I can't tell where all the negativity comes from, not just with the Council, but in general. We always seem to assume the worst.

I really would like to sit around the table with all B.net members and Bungie, just so we could talk things over. But that's not going to happen. I wonder if things will get any better in the first place. See? Now I'm become negative.

Group RPG's!

DO NOT DO IT! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING IT! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT NOT DOING IT!

What I say of B.net and looking into my past:

The past, into current.

Making the first account was amazing, the first forum I joined. 2/13/2005, thats the date. I still remember it... Its near my birthday. I could be one of the youngest members around. My first thread was a bad start, I made one on in New Membosa on Halo 2.5 (Which is just -blam!-.) I found my replies were bad and annoying...

Later on in the year, one of my first groups I joined was The Prophets of Pie. It was a very active group. We called about pie and its many reasons. I may not like the taste of pie, but there's something I like about it.

I saw the flood is spreading thread in the flood. I joined in with an Elite, but found out you could not have an Elite in the story. But someone gave me a link to the story's group, Flood Control. I must say, its been great in the group. Its not as active as it used to be, but I made a hell of a lot good friends. I have a link in my sig.

The best part of my time here is joining OFG though. I am writing a fanfic series called Sangelli. I was the 3rd member to join and have become second in command in the group. I remember that thread... The thread that started it all... (OFG: Official Fanfic group. One of the many fanfic groups.) Sadly OFG was almost destroyed by some guys, but with some luck things are back to normal.

I got my second account in may. The last thing I did with the account was make a thread on about "Who wants to work for Bungie."

Things for me have been up and down.

My account, so now thats done, my view on todays bungie.

Things are not what they used to be, the Halo 3 forum... Thats some -blam!-hole. Flamers, fantics, abusers, spammers... Halo is like a gift to bungie but a cruse. For anyone who is reading this, something must be done about that fourm. But what do I have to say about it. I don't post there.

The Septagon and the flood are differnt now...

The Septagon is now somewhere that people complain about things... Its about the 7th Column! Something must be done about it. What happened to threads about bungies world conquering plan or community events, and making Lan Parties!

As for the flood, it maybe one of my favorite forums, but what happened to the fun, the laughs. I want to talk to people and disscuss things with others and be coming back...

One thing I go on about: GROUPS!

So I have just gone and said great things about some groups. But hidden around in this site of data, text and info, are dead, dying and some groups that never got off. Before making a group think of this. Will it live. I have failed at making groups... My first group was active for awhile but my second died in weeks. I don't know how many groups dye, live or never see light.

Ending the of text.

For those who have read this, thank you. This is my view. A lot of people may think its bad or good.

But my final words are this:

Think about what we have become and what the place around has become...

Pointing fingers at forums in general isn't going to help a lot.

We need to rework the whole deal. The 7th Column page hasn't been updated in forever, the Voting Booth and Gallery are never used. The groups are becoming vile. It's more than one minor problem.

We can all sit in our chairs and post about how our community is dying or we can do something about it. We have a a bunch of great moderators and we still have good members who care about the state of the B.net community. We need to unite and bring about a new age in the Bungie fan community. The questions my friends is how?

I've said my view and past. But you are right...

WHAT CAN WE DO?

Nuff said.

To be honest, who here knows exactly what Frankie or Sketch's job entails? Sure, one is the Content Monkey and the other is the Community Guy, but the community isn't just Bungie.net. I'm sure they are very busy with Halo 3, the Halo Movie and any other projects.

One thing we should remember, Bunge.net was given to the fans by Bungie. They didn't have to, but they wanted to so they could reach out to their fans. Maybe they don't need to do that anymore?

That scares me, honestly.

I would hope that even if they didn't 'need' to, per se, they would want to.

Won't happen. If Bungie forums get shut down, someone with enough popularity and enough power will start their own Bungie, and then everyone will go thee. Of course that would get rid of the problem, but it wouldn't solve the problem. We don't need to fear the problem, we need to face it. Don't you agre?

Care is infectious. You make a few people care, and it spreads.

Care is what we need here.

Care, intelligent posts, and just being a good person is what we need. We need to be the light of the B.net community, we need to show newer members how to act. As fans we have a responsibility to keep the community going. This problem isnt going to be solved by petty disputes over groups and differing opinions of "skill" in multiplayer gametypes, this is going to be solved by members who follow the old saying; "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

agree with whats in this thread, near enough 100%.

I remember about a year ago now, after thinking that the column really didnt have any bungie interaction, and the community was declining for it, i sent a pm to sketch, our 'community guy' asking wether they had any plans for the column, wether they were going to do anything at all, or pretty much leave it.

no reply =[

-also, $5 on no 'gold' post.

I used a variant of this argument to defend Bungie against the crys of the MLG contingent a while back.

Bungie is big enough now that they don't have to cater to individual groups. They are going to get thier x million units sold regardless.

I was using the argument to quiet a restless "pro-gamer" crowd, but I feel that it might be applicable here. Has Bungie grown so large that they no longer hear thier fans speak? Does its parent company Microsoft allow Bungie to be as community oriented as they once were?

I don't have answers for these questions, just a glimmer of hope that the answers do not confirm what many of us are beginning to suspect.
