Has Bungie grown so large that they no longer hear thier fans speak?

Or maybe it had something to do with the Weekly Update done by the Bungie Princess pre-Halo 2. As I recall, the reaction from the fans could be compared to a bag of -blam!-. Far too many members were complete -blam!-s, and if the community was like that then, I can see why we were given the cold shoulder.

It's slightly sad to say, but I agree. I haven't been here long enough, but long enough to realize what's goin' on here. There's plenty of inactivity in much of the 7th Column, groups have become rampant, and it seems it's only a fight for more and more members. I feel I'm just reiterating what you said, GameJunkieJim.

I haven't really tried my hardest to keep the community together nor have I really done much, but I realize the only reason I've stayed on Bungie.net for so long was because of the community. I'm sure there are many things we can do here to help bring the community closer together and make everyone a bit more civilized, just like the golden days.

Respect is most definitely needed here in a community with much whining, bickering, and lots of video game speculation. I won't bring up any of the issues the other forums may have because they're pretty apparent.

I can't help do much, much like other members, but I'm sure most of us can bring out a way to help.

Another one of these threads?

There's been to many of these posts lately. They may be inspiring to many people, but they don't do anything. Instead od talking about actions you can do, go do something to help the 7th and then talk about the actions you DID do to help out.

Mjolnir Battle Tactics, for example, spammed the Wikipedia page for Bungie.net with group advertisements, Popular Fusion and they have this inane "Group War" going on, and people actually have "Do not send me group invites" in their signatures.
They've missed the point. Terribly.

Excuse me GameJunkieJim I personally included a small description of Mjolnir Battle Tactics on bungie wikipedia page because it is free to edit by anyone and MBT does wether you like it or not play a role in all of bungie because of our size and influence. I did not post "JOIN MBT WE'RE AWSOME" ads all over the page but instead just a small well written description. As for Popular Fusion, they had a small skirmish awhile ago but that was ages ago and you bring it up because you want to attack large groups because you see them as the problem. Maybe the problem isn't us but maybe its just you. You say we've missed the point of the 7th Column which as far as I have taken it to be is that its about uniting Halo 2 gamers under a common flag. I think MBT and Popular Fusion have done this both to the best of there abilities and are the most successfully groups at accomplishing the 7th columns purpose. MBT and PF provide great content and activity to there groups and you call this a annoyance because we aren't one of thoughs exclusive chapters you have where only a few of your buddies can hang out and have one new post a day. If you want to talk about groups being annoying why don't you look at HFCS; more topics have been made about this group in the septagon then any other group. They aren't considered advertisement because nobody can join but they've continued to be posted and not locked because the moderators think its funny. Or more specifically the huge Anti-Elite movement by Count Confusion which was halted by Achronos awhile ago but has begun again because of a lack of any intervention by anyone.

If you really want to know the state of the 7th Colum then here it is from a lowly members point of view:

* The Classifieds has become a wasteland where you can make one advertisement and nobody can reply. The only people that actaully visit the Classifieds are the moderators when they lock a thread that got 2 replies and ban all the people in the thread.
* We have 15 moderators on 12 forums now but wait...why do we still have a huge off-topic/spam problem...maybe because they only post in the forums they are acustom to like the septagon and the underground. Thoughs forums are so well maintained because there is always at least 2 moderators browsing them. The reason for that is because all the moderators on this site are considered and where choosen because of there "old-school" style. You can deny this all you like but every single moderator has this same attribute in common.
* You say that large groups like MBT and Popular Fusion are problem groups but its smaller, quieter groups that hide spammers, and conquors. Once great groups like Elite Spartan Army and 7th Column Assembly have been spammed with pages of spam posts by people who hide out in small groups and cause problems to larger groups. Specifically people like Count Confusion, Sonny Foreilli and a few others have become a large problem in the groups because they spam every time they think a moderator is not online. Of course you woudn't know anything about any of these problems because you and most of the regular septagon people only hang out here and in small exclusive clubs unware of any of these problems besides the large groups that you insult.
* The Halo 3 forum is a un-moderated mess. Want a more detailed description: Even the on-topic posts that don't deserve to be locked are filled with spam that has nothing to do with what the orginal poster said. This is true for at least 1 in every 3 posts.
* Large parts of the site have been completely abandoned despite the addition of new employee's in bungie. The 7th Column Council was the idea to remedy this situation but it has been completely shot down because bungie does not trust anyone to manage there site that they wouldn't trust with moderator powers.
* More recently even look at the underground I see at least 6 locked topics on the first page. This further proves 2 other of my points. Moderators visit only a few select forums they are acustom too and there is more off-topic spam then ever.
* The solution to the main forum problem is a simple one but one bungie would never be willing to do. Until they select people that are regular flood or Halo 3 forum members to moderate these area's of the site that they regularly visit anyways they are always going to be uncontrolled and spam infested forums.
* The solution to the groups problem is equally simple and alot easier to accomplish. Stop criticizing other groups and focus on making your own group the best it can possibly be. This does not been stop all inter-group interaction because that is a integral part of what the 7th Column is, but instead of focusing on a groups negative points why don't you try and find what is good and unique about that group.

One last thing, I try my hardest to make MBT the greatest group it could possibly be, I do everything for that group. I create cash prizes, make websites all with my own time and money and I don't like it when people like you come along with there elitist attitudes and put down all my work in one short summary of everything we've done wrong.

Your right Bungie Gamers but Halo 2 makes up a vast majority of the people that come to this site so I said Halo 2 because personally I'm not interested in myth or marathon. But I suppose they are part of the community too.

Wow you can say I'm wrong...back it up with some proof. I have look at these forums for along time and I've noticed the trend. Its pretty apparently and easy to see. Some forums like the The Gallery dont' need moderatoring because they're dead but some forums like H3 forum, classifieds, New Mombassa are in desperate need of it and its not being given.

You are only as strong as your weakest member. If you have immature members whose sole purpose of being there is to be a member of the largest b.net group, then your group suffers as a whole. Same goes for members who send constant "Membership Drive" PM's, etc, etc.

Your group may have been founded with great ideals and vision, but when a few of your members go unchecked in the main forums, the entire reputation of your group is tarnished.

its like a large force of win going through fusion, thus creating a chain reaction of a huge asplosion of win destroying any fail within its awesomeness.

I was inspired to write this by GJJ’s post. I hope the community will like it, and I’m expecting some feedback soon.

The Blueprint

We need to take action, now! We need a set of guidelines to follow, in order to perfect the column. Though, a perfect state is impossible, we can do our best to reach such goal. I prepared such guidelines, more like declarations, or laws, whatever you might call such.

# Halt all chapter confrontations. (A.K.A Group Wars) We can reach this by organizing a treaty. All those who break the treaty will be punished. The punishment is rather simple, but is the cause of these wars.

Reputation

These wars are active because of reputation. One group tries to ruin ones reputation, so it can come out the best. So in order to stop such actions, we must do the same to the offender. How? To cripple it's reputation. To tell the column. "Hey, don't join this chapter, It is bent on war and pain on others!" Signaling all of the column to stay away from this chapter, which defeats the purpose of one "declaring war." So instead of one, crippling, or even destroying another’s rep, in a war, it will only inflect harm upon itself. Upon extreme cases (Such as the MBT, PopFus conflict) both chapters shall receive punishment, as both took part in harm to the other.

# Stopping all PM recruitment.

It's dividing the column with each one sent, even I am guilty. All chapters must go to conventional methods of recruitment. Rather than saying "I think your cool, why don't you join my group" we should try to convince others to join by providing features only unique to ones chapter.

# Respect

We need to end all the discrimination simply because of join dates. We need to, as a community, respect and treat one another equally. When someone is guilty of saying "Shut up you newbie, you joined in 2006. " we need to confront him/or and respond "You should respect one the way you want to be treated." But we need to do that as a whole, not just one acting solo. Tell him/her, do you want respect here, then I suggest you provide the same.

# Spreading the Word

We should make the guides provided by our loyal peer's more obvious. Chapters have been conquered, and people have been a manipulated by something so avoidable, if they read the guides provided. We should spread the word about these guides, in anyway possible.

# An Assembly

We need to lay down an assembly, a "UN" of the Seventh Column, to confront the problems of today. To enforce the guidelines above, and it will only work if the moderators participate in this project. It will be an equal state, where everyone has equal powers. Anyone can join, and it will be like no other chapter. Promotions are useless and the admin will voted upon. It shall work as a democracy. As of this moment, I work on this idea, and I hope it turns out right. I shall provide a link soon.

Operation Restoration

I did not post "JOIN MBT WE'RE AWSOME" ads all over the page but instead just a small well written description.
Wikipedia is not to be used in that way. Start a page called Mjolnir Battle Tactics for that if you wish, but that page is about Bungie.net, not the Seventh Column, and not about individual groups.

You've gotten close, but it's not about Halo 2, it's about all of Bungie, which goes back 15 years.
No, I do not disagree with that statement, but in practice you haven't been doing that. You meaning the group as a whole, not you personally. If you want to talk about groups being annoying why don't you look at HFCS; more topics have been made about this group in the septagon then any other group. They aren't considered advertisement because nobody can join but they've continued to be posted and not locked because the moderators think its funny. You're absolutely right, and I'm ashamed that I contributed my share of it, I was trying to share a laugh with the rest of the forum.

I agree with this, the classifieds need to be more community oriented and not a simple "Phone Book" type forum.
I will deny this, and the reason for it? We are outnumbered. Horribly. The backlash that would occur if we got bareknuckled and banned for every infraction would be terrible. We also have the problem of people assuming we know more than we do, and can rarely make topics addressing our own opinions because we in some small way represent Bungie. If I want to speculate about the Halo 3 story, for example, everyone would flip out because "He's a mod! He must know something!!!"
I don't mean to insult you in that sense. Large Groups are not a problem in and of themselves. Chapter Founders and The Marty Army are great examples. They behave, they are community minded, and they don't spam peoples inboxes and other groups with advertisements.
* The Halo 3 forum is a un-moderated mess. Want a more detailed description: Even the on-topic posts that don't deserve to be locked are filled with spam that has nothing to do with what the orginal poster said. This is true for at least 1 in every 3 posts. It's moderated, but again we run into the problem of moderator to user ratio, and backlash. I moderated that forum heavily for the first two weeks it was around. The stress caused me to get an ulcer and my gall bladder failed. You think this is an easy job? I tell you truthfully, it is not.
* Large parts of the site have been completely abandoned despite the addition of new employee's in bungie. The 7th Column Council was the idea to remedy this situation but it has been completely shot down because bungie does not trust anyone to manage there site that they wouldn't trust with moderator powers. Agreed, totally and without reservation. That's a good part of why my post is here in the first place.
* More recently even look at the underground I see at least 6 locked topics on the first page. This further proves 2 other of my points. Moderators visit only a few select forums they are acustom too and there is more off-topic spam then ever. Again, some of the times it's easier to let a topic die out on it's own than for us to get involved, some people retaliate to our blacklistings by creating 50 more accounts and spamming way worse than before, so a solution is not readily apparent.
* The solution to the main forum problem is a simple one but one bungie would never be willing to do. Until they select people that are regular flood or Halo 3 forum members to moderate these area's of the site that they regularly visit anyways they are always going to be uncontrolled and spam infested forums. It's not a solution, only a postponement. We are actually in those forums. We are simply not as visible as we try to be.
Unique aspects of the group is essential for a healthy existence. One does not want the interation to stop. I simply want it to be a constructive interaction rather than destructive.

One last thing, I try my hardest to make MBT the greatest group it could possibly be, I do everything for that group. I create cash prizes, make websites all with my own time and money and I don't like it when people like you come along with there elitist attitudes and put down all my work in one short summary of everything we've done wrong.Hey, I respect that. However, your group is judged on the actions of it's members, not just the founder. Do well to remember that.

Its not a "Yes or No" thread I'm just saying you may think your doing a all around good job moderating in the early hours of the morning but that isn't when a majority of the people are online and making spam replies. Because threads are the biggest problem its the replies to the threads that are so full of spam. Before Yoozel (I think) maybe that annoucement about PanCake Bunny links every other reply had a link to that image.

Liez. MBT most certainly does not play a role in all of Bungie. In fact, I could care less about MBT. Not in a mean way, but I just don't find it very appealing. I'm happy that people enjoy it, but it doesn't really do much for me.

Erm, you have missed the point. I don't play Halo 2. You don't want to unite me, as well? I would pick Myth or Marathon over Halo 2 any day of the week. Take out "Halo 2" and you have it right though.

I think you got a bit carried away here. This is more attacking Jim and less rebuking his claims. Why would he be mad at other people's enjoyment? Jim is a grown man. I think it's a bit comical to think he would get upset because there is a large group. Getting upset at the methods they use, however, I can see that.

If you want to talk about groups being annoying why don't you look at HFCS; more topics have been made about this group in the septagon then any other group. They aren't considered advertisement because nobody can join but they've continued to be posted and not locked because the moderators think its funny.

And whos fault is it that there are so many HFCS topics? Why, the people who support them, of course. Don't post in them and they won't be made. There is obviously and intrest in them though, so people will make them. And why would they lock a topic that's in the right forum (I assume the Septagon is the right forum, of course...)? Because you find it annoying? I find a lot of threads annoying, but I just ignore them.

Moderators are people. They have lives. What your suggesting is that each moderator guards a forum for his entire life. Mabye the other three can give them breaks every once in awhile. It takes time to lock, it takes time to post replies. Mods have to deal with other things too. Replying to PMs, posting in their groups, all that stuff.

Of course you woudn't know anything about any of these problems because you and most of the regular septagon people only hang out here and in small exclusive clubs unware of any of these problems besides the large groups that you insult.

No, it's because they hang out in groups that are well managed and don't let spammers join them in the first place.

- If I've offended anyone in this post you probably deserved it.

This is why the Column is going down the drain. Not because some people enjoy small groups and some enjoy large groups. Yes, lack of Bungie's participation contributes. But when it comes down to it, it's things like that last quote. No respect for anyone and no manners.

Good idea. Consider it done.

This isn't about join dates, this is about interaction, I could give a crap less about someone's join date, and would love for them to be gone.

Note: I do not live in America, so my early hours may not be the same as yours. But it's like Jim said: we are horribly outnumbered. take care of ten topics, another 50 have taken their place.

For Carnage, Apply Within.

I have returned from the Untamed Lands. MOAP is dead.

Every negative aspect that was stated about the community may have some clue as to why the 7th Column and the old community died. And as to why the Bungie employees who visited frequently don't anymore.
