One would hope. I desparately want to see more in the way of interaction, or at the very least some help on our current state.

People are interested though, it's a good thing.

Maybe just more strict rules and banhammer at first sight of anything of that kind?

Being more strict won't help with community interaction, in fact it rather limits it. People have to be willing to want to help, banning on first sight wouldn't change anyone, except that they might learn a rule which they didn't know before, but that can be done with a simple PM, in my opinion. What we have to do is try to create some excitement so that people would want to participate in the community. That's why I created Seventh Column Contests because its something that can reach a broad variety of people no matter what their interests are.

The rules are fine, and allow for personal judgement on the part of the moderators, which is good. The moderators can get more strict, but it may have more of a detrimental effect if the community is not behind them. Right now it's an "Us and You" relationship between the moderators and the rest of the members.

Really, we're just regular folks, we just happen to be very community minded.

In fact, I'm loathe to think that some of you may be agreeing because I'm a moderator.

Don't. If you disagree with me, tell me. We do our jobs better when we know what concerns you.

Mod quotes are lame. Unless it's about McRibs. That one is still funny, but people might think Jim would actually do that.

Just more Bungie guys posting would be cool. Or some Bungie sponsored contests

Also how can regular members help out the Community.
I think, for one, we should all try and help every new member learn the ropes as fast as possible. And we need to crack down on stupid threads, And as a whole stop helping SPammers spam, and Flamers flame.

I wanna see Groups sharing news stories, co-sponsoring contests, having friendly challenges on various games, Working on new content, fan fictions, artwork, etc.

Also how can regular members help out the Community. Just by pitching in!
Start submitting news, being active, helping out the new guys, following the rules a bit better, ignoring people detrimental to the Column and B.net, posting in relevant and thought provoking manners, making Bungie.net better even if it's only your one thread. All of these are things you can do, and many more.

I think one of the main problems is. we can't mod. Many communities are based on groups that make mods. We are not allowed to Mod halo 2. for good reason. We need something, besides halo 3, that brings together the community. A contest, a story, something.

How about a huge halo 2 tournament for bungie.net users?

I know the people here are a very creative community. I know we can come up with something much more creative than modding. Contests do bring communities closer together, and there are plenty other things we can come up with.

There have been an awful lot of interesting and relevent things said in this thread, and I'd just like to second every point that wasn't stupid. I'd love to be able to actually post again in the main forums without trundling through a tonne of pages to find a thread topic that hasn't been exhausted a year ago, rather than keeping to Body Politic and my local chapter. I'd love to explore the rest of the site and find new things. I'd love to be able to contribute to the website proper again, be it through constructing more themes or something else.

Regardless, I'm glad to see that improvements are on their way.

I say we start a group and hold discussions inside the group about what we can do, and if nothing else make that our own community and only let people dedicated to making bungie better in, who is with me?
The last thing we need is for this issue to go private. It was the 7th Column Council idea going private that got me out of the idea in the first place. The Septagon is the place to discuss anything relating to Bungie.net and if any chapters have ongoing discussions regarding this site, by all means migrate the discussion here. ^_^ We don’t need a private chapter to address concerns with this site. HFCS and Chapter Founders should be the only ones for that stuff, in my opinion.

One thing we should remember, Bunge.net was given to the fans by Bungie. They didn't have to, but they wanted to so they could reach out to their fans. Maybe they don't need to do that anymore?
Quite frankly, that is the most useless garbage I’ve seen anyone post. Bungie.net wasn’t given to the fans by Bungie, BUNGIE was given itself by the fans. I see people say Bungie owes us nothing all the time, most of the people saying this are mods defending this company. Bungie owes us nothing, really? Talk about profits, Bungie owes us their money, jobs, their livelihood. Come to think of it, they owe their fans EVERYTHING don’t they? Where’s the fan appreciation? Where’s Sketchfactor making a post saying “Thanks guys, for buying our games and shwag and supporting us so that we can do what we love and make great games”? Where are the fanfests that cost Bungie money but show the appreciation for the ones who gave Bungie that money in the first place? Bungie doesn’t need the fans anymore, but without the fans, they’d go bankrupt. Granted they may not need the fans of just this site, but it’s safe to say we’re their biggest fans. If there’s any community they should be concerned about, it’s this one. I’m not ungrateful for what is a wonderful site, but I’ve never been to a fanfest dammit, I feel cheated.

The mythical search engine is coming... sooner than you expect. More I cannot say.

Lots of things are going to change to get this place ready for Halo 3. But we'll also likely spread the development love around to not just the Halo 3 related stuff, as well. Don't confuse the lack of information with the lack of change. We'll be moving to a new datacenter within the next week or two, and then shortly after that... well, you'll see.
Making promises is hard, because then you have to keep them. I understand that as a member of the webteam, you don’t really determine your budget. I for one, would like to see that budget increased 3 or 4 fold, so when you make a promise, it doesn’t take 3 years for Soon™ to happen. I want my features, and I want them now. Why shouldn't Bungie.net be the biggest resource for all things Bungie? Where’s the links to HBO, or HighImpactHalo, or the Halowiki on the front page? Hell, do I even know of very many other great sites? Maybe links on the front page would be nice?

When I first came to Bungie.net 4 score and -76 years ago, I came here looking for information about Halo and things to do in Halo, because the game was so fun, I knew I had only scratched the surface. I wasn’t really getting bored, per se, but I was looking for more exciting things to do with the game. I did come here with the intent on finding local LAN groups, and what I did find was one massive community that was really awesome. The website itself and the forums got my attention. You could search the whole history of all the posts and pull up things people said. The view was threaded (impossible now) so you could follow an idea without interruption. I guess Achronos is right, other websites can do this stuff better now, maybe we should all take a hike to somewhere else and let Bungie.net be the place for new people to spend a couple years before getting sick of it and moving on to greener pastures. I guess I’m just stubborn, because I’m not leaving, and bitter because I can’t play Halo 2 over Xbox LIVE just yet and don’t have access to all those great XBL enabled features of the site.

[plots]Maybe I have to take some initiative myself >:)[/plots]

Wow. Rip saw. That post almost made me cry. It was so right, yet so wrong. I believe we are in a symbiotic relationship with bungie. Without us, no bungie. Without bungie, no halo. Therefore, we see that both sides depend on each other for what they want. We want Halo 3, bungie wants money, and to make enjoyable video games. We need to stop, "we should do this for bungie" or "bungie should do this for us" it should be "what can we all do together. We need Bungie/fan interaction. I don't know how we are going to get it. I have a few ideas, but I am not ready to reveal them just yet. We need to stop this Crying about the state of things, or the lack of a search engine, or the site not having links to HBO (which it does), and start doing things. We need to all get active. Contests, movies, fanfictions, news stories, bungie interviews, the whole friggin nine yards, people. And not once a month, or every week. Whenever you feel like it. I should be able to log onto this site and see something new that is worthwhile, every time. And I log on 15-20 times a day. Where are the montages, Fanfics, and artwork? In dinky little threads that no one cares to read. We need to get them out there. A gallery for Fan Art, a section for montages, somewhere to host fanfictions, etc.
