It means the same dialog has been spewn over and over in a complete state of redundancy. When communities get too large, they become less informal. People stop listening to what each other have to say and just post their own opinions. Much of what people say has either already been covered, or already been said several times prior. Such is the case of many forums. Take IMDB for instance. It has several hundred thousand members. So what happens? We get over a hundred threads gossiping about the same topics, lately under "HALO" its been "omg will denzel washington be the next master chief." I hope this examplfies what I'm talking about thoroughly enough for you.

Ironically, I just got this messege in private.

Hi, I'm ThePotatoe(yes I know I spellt it wrong), and I would like to invite you to the Separatist Covenant Army. We hold weekly caption contests and have interesting discussions. We talk about anything, ranging from Halo discussions..to political talk. You're bound to find a topic you're interested in. This is also a good place to learn from other people. We even have our very own chatroom, so we can get to know each other. If you're interested (even if you're not), please check out our homepage. If you decide to join, we hope you'll become one of our regualrs.

We even got Kpaul to join, Bungie's cabin boy. =D

Hope to see you there!

This is the kind of stuff that we need to get rid of as well. I mean one thing I wonder how many people got this same thing, and two the Separatist Covenant Army? And KP joined???

Ya, I don't like it when I get PM's asking me to join groups. I have my own groups to deal with, other groups that I like being active in, and other ones that I moderate/help alot in.

Like Right now, I have 2 groups that are well off and another one just starting out.

Anyways, frankie joined my group FTW. He's way cooler then Kpaul. Cept Kpaul gives me sandwiches. so it's evens out.

Most members fall in the middle and many are actually able to avoid it all and simply treat employees and volunteers as normal people who just have (to quote a Prophet) "different hats". Those members are why I enjoy coming here.

DO NOT DO IT! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING IT! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT NOT DOING IT!

I've came to to a point:

The Underground: Make things better, its the forum that started it. No.1. Make it more on the Bungie gereral side of things, make it something that can make it fun. You could also merge it with the news and gallery forums.

The Septagon: The eye of the storm. The home of the 7th Column! BRING IT BACK! Make it best commiunty thread around!!! And change it from being a problems fourm!!!

Every Halo game (Taking out the maw.) that has its forum: I have no idea... :(

The Maw: The unsung forum... Make people know of this forum! Make more events for Halo PC and CE! When Halo 2 Vista comes out. Make it apart of the maw.

The Flood: Restore it to its uber-coolness! What happened to the 100 guys that made it rule!!!

(Darths forum ideas)

The index: (I think the Library would be a better name...) A fanfic fourm. (Ofg and the many fanfic groups are the current state of fanfic fourms.)

Old School: For the older bungie games.

HaXh0rs!!!: Site problems, the conquering crap, ect...

Arcade: For forum games!

See that is what I like to see, "regular" people who are not moderators or actually get paid by bungie helping us out and trying to save everything. And the moderators, they are working with us.

I forgot who said this quote but it's something like this "We cannot just change everything, change bungie.net by changing one topic at a time." That is exactly what we are doing here.

Thanks Recon.

[rant]I agree totally, even tho I'm fairly new, I see the problems at bungie.net forums(I only really hang out in New Mombasa or The Flood tho). In New Mombasa spam is ridiculous. A day there usally at least 2 or 3 threads about "OMG!!!! MODDERS SUCK!!!1!!. Why isn't bungie doing something about this?" or "matchmaking sucks." Also are the threads advertising stuff, no one seems to listen that they go in the classifieds, no matter how many times their told, they don't listen. There are like 3 of these on average, usally more though. There needs to be a stricter rule about advertisements... like one warning then blacklist. And of course there are thousands of repeat threads over the course of just a month. Every day there are like pages of repeat topics, whiners, and stupid threads. A thread can be on page 2 in 10mins.[/rant]

A blacklisting is your warning. And your lucky if you get blacklisted by a moderator and not Achronos.

also watch the shadows for that shishka guy. I hear he has fun moderating the forums.

I know there's probably a lot on the web team's plate, but I'd rather be told "screw you" than be given empty promises. It's approaching two years since the column upgrade, and there's still no sign of anything major happening to it. Which is a real shame, because there's so much potential.
A great man once looked at me and said "Potential, you may have. However, potential means nothing lest you truly wish to succeed." This man is dead now. I will sorely miss him.

I realize I be but a lowly, random and rather new member, but I do understand that which you speak. I have never been scrutinized for my join date. Intelligent people are able to recognize intelligence in others regardless of age or join date.

I also agree that this place needs an overhaul. That is easy for us to say for we are not the Webmasters. I hate to be blunt, and possibly rude, but I care not that I don't know how it should be done. What I am doing for certain is extending a call for those who can do something about it: Us. We the people have just as much a responsibility to maintain this site as the crewmen. They can do nothing without the complete cooperation of us, the community.

So I ask of you all, even though I have virtually no status and authority, to help as much as you can without getting in the way. This means following the rules, and that is practically it. The other part of it would be reporting something when you see it, and not waiting or delaying a moment. Does anyone else have anything to add?

This is a problem that has skyrocketed since Halo 3's announcement. There has been an increasing lack of intelligence and an amazing rise in flaming noteably in the Halo 3 forums (which I prefer to stay away from). On the contrary, there is a wealth of friendly people with good ideas and well thought out responses. But what happens to them? Most of them, sadly, are shot down by flamers. Even the mightiest threads can be taken down by one of these negativley-opinionated people. One starts and the rest follow.

What we can do is ignore these randomized, off-topic posts and try to carry on. Will it work, perhaps. It's the least we can do, plus, it's a start...

I've came to to a point:

The Underground: Make things better, its the forum that started it. No.1. Make it more on the Bungie gereral side of things, make it something that can make it fun. You could also merge it with the news and gallery forums.

Make it better? It's not as simple as turning a knob or something, you know. The Underground IS Bungie general stuff/Old Skool. Well, it's supposed to be, but some members don't pay attention to that. How can you make something to make it fun? Be more specific.

The Septagon: The eye of the storm. The home of the 7th Column! BRING IT BACK! Make it best commiunty thread around!!! And change it from being a problems fourm!!!

The home of the 7th Column. Indeed, but what exactly are we bringing back? An abstract concept? Again, Bungie can't "make it the best thread" around; it's the members. Bungie also can't change it from being a problems forum, because it's not a problems forum to begin with. It's the newer members who flood it with questions about ninjas and crap like that. Suggestions help a lot more than saying "make it better".

The Maw: The unsung forum... Make people know of this forum! Make more events for Halo PC and CE! When Halo 2 Vista comes out. Make it apart of the maw.

A Bungie sponsored tourney would be nice, but that doesn't really relate to The Maw. If anything, it belongs on the front page. I agree with the part about Halo 2 Vista being in The Maw. They'll probably do that instead of making a whole new forum.

The Flood: Restore it to its uber-coolness! What happened to the 100 guys that made it rule!!!

Bungie can't bring back members that you think are cool. What, you want them to bring back Twitch? Once again, this isn't up to Bungie. It's the members that make a forum great or make it terrible. Think of a forum as an empty building. Depending on who occupies it, it can be an awesome all in one gaming center/cafe/paintball arena/strip club, or it can be a boring office building. The building is just a building; it's what's on the inside that counts.

(Darths forum ideas)

The index: (I think the Library would be a better name...) A fanfic fourm. (Ofg and the many fanfic groups are the current state of fanfic fourms.)

We have sites like HBO for things like fan fiction. What better place for fan fiction than a fan site?

Old School: For the older bungie games.

We have the Underground for that. Most of the threads there right now are about Marathon or the HGN.

HaXh0rs!!!: Site problems, the conquering crap, ect...

It's far easier to PM Achronos or an admin about a site problem rather than have a whole forum for it.

Arcade: For forum games!

The Flood would be perfect for forum games. There used to be lots of them, and there still are, but most of them are stupid now.

Yes, the halo 3 forums is filled with flamers. Left an right, every thread. The only way to really stop it would be not to go in there. And to just stay away. If possible lock the flamers in there and throw away the key.
