Perhaps then they should have a community team. People that attend local parties, and other fan related events.

  • 08.08.2006 10:55 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

A squad of people who are paid to hang out with the community kind of defeats the whole point.

Like I said, I don't know about everyone here, but personally, I think that the Bungie guys should continue focusing on their work, but I'd like to see more posts from guys like Sketch, Frankie, AGDTinMan, Achronos, and all the other admin who are directly involved with the community. I'm not expecting people like bentllama or Jason Jones to show up on the forums(although that would be nice).

To sum it up, more interection from the people whose jobs directly involve the community. I know that most of their jobs are behind the scenes(maintaining the site and forums and such), but it wouldn't hurt to come talk to us!

Alot of the problems with excessive hate between members won't be solved until Bungie either hides/removes Join Dates.

Exactly, Join dates just cause problems.

I agree with GJJ. The site back in 04 was great. The people were friendly and flaming wasn't anywhere near as bad as it is. I find myself falling to the prey of some flamers and joining in with them. I don't like doing that. The site needs attention, but as GJJ said Bungie has turned from all about the community to all about the money.

Thats not what GJJ said. He posed a question about where Bungie's priorities lay.

I agree the forum definately needs to be worked on. There's a serious overload of spam & random crap. It should totally go back to how it was during ILB's first morning (my join date :P). That was so unbelievably fun.

If Bungie only cared about money, there would be ads all over Bungie.net.

knowing mbts council i dont think they did or condoned what was done, but remember a few months ago odst recon was trashtalking us, i think mbt is clean. we provide info for gamers on games, tips strategies, all that.

groups have become i problem, not because of their leaders but because certain members, take sonni forelli, conquered many groups, surf and skate, who now is a great member and has stopped did his share. i think that there needs to be some way to look into members who want to join to see their history to make sure

DO NOT DO IT! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING IT! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT NOT DOING IT!

We should sticky this thread.

Something I put up in a thread:

What has this place become... The flood has changed, its becoming as bad as the Halo 3 forum. All I am saying is the commuinty factor has gone out the window. What happened to it. I just saw a guy with a good idea and he got flamed by some jerks. This is bungie! The seventh column. I miss what this place used to be. When I joined in '05, it was one of the best things that happened. Ideas get thrown down the toilet. The guys at bungie are doing their thing. As for us, we need to do our part.

Unity, think of it. Stop the spam, stop the flaming, stop the crap. Enjoy this forum.
And the last thing is. You have a life. You have that as well.

Hmmm...This place has changed...A lot, I was lurking around since about June 04, although only joined about 10 days before I got Halo 2, The Flood has changed a lot...And I don't believe it's for the better, The Halo 3 forum is a giant flamewar (Just like New Mombassa in early 05) and The Septagon is really the only place where people won't get flamed, you could go to The Underground but that place is really inactive...I think I might try to get my real life back on track or help stop spam, I'll let you guys decide...

as GJJ said Bungie has turned from all about the community to all about the money.

I never made that assumption, and neither should you. I simply asked whether they were on target with the fans. Sure, I was a bit agressive, but I won't make an assumption, I'll make an informed opinion after I gather facts.

And the "blame" (if you can call it that) doesn't rest only with Bungie either, our own apathy did a lot of damage as well.

  • 08.09.2006 3:55 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

When you think about it, Bungie being "all about the money" wouldn't really affect us to begin with. The people whose jobs are to maintain the site and forum aren't involved with development, so even if Bungie made a crapload of money from the Halo series, there would still be a team of people helping keep the site in order.

I don't think that they're money hungry jerks like EA. If they were, they'd probably have things like an "insider" part of the site you have to pay for, and maybe even have to pay a small fee to use Bungie's servers to play their games(or send them advertising info). That's what EA is doing, in addition to churning out sub par, rehashed titles to milk a popular franchise.

If this were true, we'd probably have like 4 Halo games by now.

Look to your right... yeah that black space that is empty. On every major forum that would be cram-packed with ads (IMO). Bungie is the most down-to-earth Studio group I have ever encountered. Not only that, but look at the news ( i.e. when bungie covered Podtacular and the like.)

Bungie doesnt want money, they want the world. But back to bungie, the reason i like them is that they are the most famous game studio in the world and they are still modest. You dont see the makers of other famous games working so hard to have a community as they do. Bungie is the only games developers that i have seen that work to let the fans know things that interest them, i have seen Lionhead studios mentioning news. But they dont get the community involved in the news (like the podtacular thing). All in all, i think bungie has an excellent group of individuals as its community. I have been flamed, but people do it without realising, i just sent them a message and they apologised straight off. But yeah, the good old days will sure be missed, i cant remember when i joined bungie, it was with a god of war account or something aloongg time ago. Before halo 2, but all i know is that i am proud to be a member.

The more money Bungie makes, the more resources they have to put into excellent games and B.net. I do think more features will be added in the upcoming months and things will improve. The forums are what we make them. Light a candle instead of cursing the darkness. Seek excellence in your groups and treat B.net members with respect. That is really what matters.

We all agree that the biggest and probably most influential problem solving to this can mostly be done by Bungie themselves. However, I feel that we here who care should try to do something about this ourselves, as much as we can. Stop talking about what Bungie can do (though I respect the ideas about what Bungie can do and I agree they need to do something) and do something yourselves! Maybe, at the very least, show this thread to as many people as we can, put it in your signatures for instance, at least create awareness to show the rest of B.net in what is happening. I can't think of any other ideas that I can personally execute to help B.net, but I know that some of you can!

We all agree? I personally think that Bungie can only do so much. They gave us the forums; it's on us what becomes of them. What is this "influential problem solving" we all agree on? I'd like to know.

I was exaggerating when i said "we all agree" (and I had only read the first couple pages). The "influential problem solving", is Bungie revamping the site and whatnot, what others had said earlier. I was at a loss for better words too. But this is all besides my point made in that post (and here is where I agree with you Nedus for the most part), is that we can make this site better ourselves without Bungie's help. I was trying to get some ideas on how everybody can help.

About the ODST Recon thing. I was there and on the ODST Recon side. One of the MBT members took screenshots of the HighCom forums. That was something that was very wrong. But I know that both groups were at fault and that only a smalll minority of members on both sides supported a "group war".

As for group conquerers they need lives.

Even if Bungie revamps the site, they're still forums, which means that it's still on us what becomes of them.

It is.

I'm hoping the little newsletter project takes off. I've bought a domain and hosting for it, so we won't lose bandwidth with downloads. I invite everyone to make submissions.
