Location: Outlaws' Summit.

I actually read all that and it brought back nostalgia of how I came across B.Net.

Mine: I started College at Virginia Tech last year (freshman) and made quite a bit of friends. One friend in particular, re-introduced me to Xbox Live. Seeing as how he didn't care about Live anymore (WoW took him over), he gave his account to me. The account name? Iceman Assassin. Yes, he was the original. So one day I try to sign on, and it says there's account management issues. As fate should have it, we had to cancel the account and I decided to make a new one: ICEMAN ASSASS1N.

However, what I always thought was cool was the little "bungie.net" behind the Gamer Tag. I wanted it on there, so I went through a LOT of trouble to attain this. When I got it, I noticed I had to open an account here and link it. So I did. And it was then that I saw the forums page. I had always wanted to take part in Halo 3 discussions, so I just browsed around and looked. Then I made my very first bungie.net post. It went something like this:

Hey noobs. I'm ICEMAN ASSASS1N. i love big team battle, but i'm sure none of you could touch me. but if you noobs want, send me a friend request so i can show you how to do it right.

The next day I was like "Oh yeah, let's see if I got any replies." Instead I got this message:

You have been blacklisted by: Shishka on (4/17/2006).
{My join date, LoL !}

I thought "Whatever." But for some reason, as I looked through the site I felt intrigued. I wanted to know more, get involved. When the blacklist expired, I became an avid poster. I stayed in the Halo 3 Forum for about 99% of my initial B.Net experience. But as I became more attached to the site and more involved, I decided to venture out see what this place had to offer. Thus, ICEMNAN ASSASS1N, the Bungie.net user that you see jumping from forum to forum was born. I think I've matured A LOT since my first B.net post. I didn't even mean for it to be that way, because I had no idea what this site was about. But now I feel I have a pretty good handle on this place.

Expect to see me a lot for many more times to come.

Hmm. I guess I'll give this a shot.

It all started with a computer game magazine, the name of which I can't remember. But the featured article of a particular issue caught my attention: Halo. Note that this was when Halo was still in develpmental stages and was still an RTS, I believe. I was pretty young, so I didn't care too much about who developed what. So the name of the masterminds behind this game was unknown to me.

Fastforward a few years.

The Xbox had been out for quite awhile now, and I was a Nintendo fanboy (not a "foaming at the mouth" fanboy, mind you). I only had the vaguest memory of Halo, so not knowing that Halo ended up being developed for the Xbox, I thought it was just a port, and that it was pretty lame that people were hyped up over a port. But one day, I was hanging out at a friend's house, and they had an Xbox, and Halo. Soon, practically all of our time at his house was devoted to playing Halo on co-op. We usually had about 4-5 people there, so we set up some rules for co-op. "If you die, give up the controller. If you betray, give up the controller." Unfortunately, I hadn't the vaguest idea of what the story was, and we didn't really care. However, one night while I stayed at my friend's house, I decided to play through Halo. I had a blast in the campaign (not to mention being scared crapless by the level, "343 Guilty Spark").

Fastforward to the announcement of Halo 2

Erm, nothing much happened here, I never really payed attention to gaming headlines. *ahem*

Fastforward to the E3 presentation of Halo 2

There, a little while before this event, I learned of Halo 2's existance, and saw the teaser. But soon, I saw a bootleg of the presentation somewhere on the interwebz, and soon I was very excited about this game. But, unfortunately, I had no Xbox. So I'd have to play it at a friend's house. Blah, but...

Rewind to the 8th grade

...I got braces, and then later...

Fastforward to Summer Break, before Freshman Year.

...I won a contest at my orthodontics place. The reward? An Xbox and a game. -MASSIVE JOY!- I ended up getting Rainbow Six 3, because I'm a fan of the series, but whatever. (Oh, and I still have the headset from the game and use it for XBL to this day)

Fastforward to Halo 2's Release

Grounded. Hooray. Grades slipping. But luckily, I pre-ordered, so I got the game anyways. Eventually, I got ungrounded, and Halo 2 had me hooked. I started playing Xbox Live. Somehow, I came across something that mentioned linking gamertags to bungie.net, so to bungie.net I went. Well, after I joined, I didn't participate much in the community. The most I ever did was post a few topics in Zanzibar asking about gamertag linking and some multiplayer aspects. I didn't care too much about the community. I soon entered dormancy in b.net. (in retrospect, I'm disappointed that I didn't take part in much back then). After a few months, I decided to return (i'm surprised that my account wasn't deleted >_>).

After awhile, I got situated with my surroundings, spending most of my time in the Halo 2 forums. I was more active in my posting, and became somewhat of a "forum cop." Well, eventually I discovered the Underground, and it's joyful Marathon. At first I though, "It can't be better than Doom." Well, after finally downloading it, I became a huge fan of the series and started posting in the Underground more often. I joined a few groups eventually. I became a mod in a group that I recently left, due to the autolock monster devouring the forums. Now, I'm a more active member in the community. I recently discovered the joy of Myth and participate in the weekly Myth Jumper events. I frequent #moap all of the time and we talk about Kilroy behind his back (no, not really).

And for lack of a way to end this smoothly.....

THE END

Hmm, it seems that my bungie history is mostly the events leading up to my joining. Oh well.

Hmm

The quote text that follows is a sort of mini autobiography of what I have experienced in my time on b.net. I do not expect you to read it, but you are more than welcome to and it would be awesome if you did. But I do ask you to skip past the quoted text and read the paragraph that follows, at least. And then, hopefully reply.

Once upon a time, there was a console. It was known as the PlayStation 2. It was born into greatness, destined to lead the market during it's prime. I tried to get one when it first launched. I ended up getting one on it's 2nd holiday season. It was the best thing evar, or so I thought. I played FFX, Kingdom Hearts, and a few other games. But, for the most part, the PS2 did not live up to the hype for me.

My friend had an XBox. I had heard about this game called Halo(who hadn't heard of it?). It was supposed to be awesome. I played it at my friends house and was hooked instantly. I was always a fan of the FPS. Chex Quest got me into gaming. So, I was overjoyed to play one as awesome as Halo. But there was one problem. I hated the controller. So big. And the white and black buttons were impossible to reach. But then, came the S. I know longer had any excuse not to buy an XBox. I got one for my birthday, and immediately picked up Halo: Combat Evolved Game of the Year Edition. I loved it.

Hours every Friday evening were devoted to playing slayer gametypes with 3 of my friends. We would go to Seven Eleven, buy a 64 oz. pop, and go to my friends house for Halo. We switched of teams every game. We became very good. We spent hours as aforementioned, cooped up in a small room, with an XBox, TV, and Stereo. It got really hot and sweaty in there. But it was fun.

As I said, my copy of Halo was the Game of the Year Edition. This came with 3 special features. One announcement trailer for Halo 2. A gameplay trailer for Halo 2(both trailers shown at E3 at first). The last was the Making of Halo 2 trailer. They were amazing. I watched the Gameplay trailer every day. I had to know more. I couldn't live with just a trailer. So, I watched it carefully, and noticed a very small "Bungie.net" emblem in the corner of the screen at the very end of the trailer. I went to it, and discovered the best site I've ever been to.

It was Spring '04. I read every Featured Article in existence when I discovered B.net(wasn't many back then). One notable experience was reading about the Commercial Warthog(go way back in the featured articles to read about it). A Warthog that was like the Hummer of 2552. It was awesome. I read the Weekly Whats Update every week. I checked B.net every day for any news articles whatsoever. They were few and far between at the time, but I followed nonetheless.

I became an expert on Halo 2. I knew everything there was to know. For months, all I could think about was November 9th. It loomed closer, and the days grew longer. GameStop said my Limited Collector's Edition would take an extra week to arrive. I was dissapointed. But then, on November 9th, I got a call from GameStop. My sister ran me over right after school, and I picked it up. Played for hours. It was amazing. The graphics! The physics! The Battle Rifle!!!

I continued to follow the Weekly Updates for a long time. Then, one hot summer day in August '05, I was bored. I was looking on b.net for new news articles, then decided the time had come. I was to join b.net. I did it. I made my account, Kilroy. I immediately realized that I was not the only Halo fan in the world. Far from it. I was a noob. Even though I knew all about Halo, I was not prepared for coming to forums. I had no idea what a forum even was. After several days of posting topics in the septagon, asking noob questions(what is a ninja?), I got the hang of it.

The first thing I did to contribute to the community, was read a fanfic and reply to it. It was written by one Sir_Brilliant. It was a sticky. I was inspired by this awesome story. I wrote my own fic. It was a blast. I gained some of my best b.net friends through this(I'll explain further down)

It didn't take long for me to notice the spammers. I immediately took on the role of Forum Cop. I became quite (in)famous for it. Many people knew my name, because of my public display of Forum Copness. Because of this, I received many a group invite. I recognized that most of these were invites that were copied and pasted and sent out by the hundreds. But I accepted them anyways.

One guy invited me to a group called something like Halo Addicts. It only had a few members. I quickly set up a mass-invite system(yes, I spamed inboxes as a noob), and the members poured in. I led the group from about 5-40 ish members in little time at all. Then one Kodemyster came along. He was amazing. He devoted so much time and effort into inviting people to the group. The group got to about 300 people.

I was concerned for the safety of this group. I had heard about these "conquerors" and "destoyers," but I had no idea what they were or how to protect my group. I approached one surf and skate. He directed me to a group called Conquerors Must Die. I quickly became involved in this little war against conquerors. But the people I worked with and against were all stupid. No one could stand eachother. So i left. Retired.

My fanfiction went along nicely, till about half way through the story. I had only planned the first half! I had writers block! It was horrible! I tried so very hard to finish....but to this day, it remains incomplete. It is now auto-locked. It is sad to see. But I don't regret it.

One time in Chapter Founders, much thought was given toward reactivation. We planned lots of things, but all we went through with was an interview with Achronos. We are still waiting for him to complete it and send it back, but I don't think it will ever happen. It's been a long time since we sent it. Then I got the idea to interview Marty O'Donnell. I did, and it was awesome. You can read the interview here. After doing so, I decided to interview Frankie(this is very important later in the story). I sent him a PM, and he said he'd accept if PR was okay with it, and supplied me with an email address. Many attempts at email, no reply.

Then one day I was in the Septagon. A big thread formed discussing the prospect of a Fanfiction Forum. It died. But in CF, the topic was recreated and debate rose once again. Sir_Brilliant had the foresight to realize that we weren't getting a FanFiction Forum any time soon. So he made a group dedicated to it. It was not for his personal gain, but to have a place for all readers and writers of Fanfic to gather. It was great. I immediately joined and pledges my support. From then on, the Official Fanfic Group(or OFG as we call it), grew.

There was talk of creating a clan out of the group, but nothing ever happened. Then, Christmas 05, I got XBox Live. I immediately brought all my b.net friends together to play. I started up the 0FG(yes that's a zero), and devoted myself toward getting it off the ground. I succeeded, I gave the control to Sir_Brilliant, and we had fun. We played lots of arranged and matchmade clanmatches. We often lost, but it was still a blast to play with my friends.

We continued on for a long time. Then, the clan grew restless. Two of our key players sort of fell in love with eachother(a guy in a girl, don't worry, no ghey). One of them essentially quit playing. He was always there, but not playing. This aggravated many people. The most notable being the man in charge of arranging our clanmatches. This tension simmered and boiled. Then one day, two of our clan left. This did not bode well.

I had previously created a gmail account, and switched my Passport over to it. I tried to email PR about Frankie one last time, using this account. It worked, to my surprise. I arranged an interview. It was supposed to take place over Live, and Sir_Brilliant was to be the camera man. It fell through the first attempt. The second, my alarm failed to go off and I slept right through the appointed time. Sir_Brilliant was furious, understandably, as was I. I was forced to send the interview via email. I still await it's completion(this was very recently, so it shouldn't be too long).

Sir_Brilliant refused to speak to me after that. Finally, Uberdawg(the man who arranged our clanmatches) and I, left the clan. We created a new one, which is still in it's early stages, but is progressing.

Then, OFG was attacked. A few simple mistakes led to it being conquered. Luckily, Achronos was online and was willing to lend a hand. Within little time, Sir_Brilliant was back in control, the perpetrators were booted, and the inside man was revealed. This little incident brought our clan back together. Not literally, but in the sense that we were friends again because our beloved Chapter was threatened. We are cool now, and remain friends. Some of our clan tried to be "anti-conquerors." I must say that this is foolish. I know from experience that it accomplished nothing and waste time. Conquering and Anti-Conquering is nothing but a male-body-part measuring contest. It's retarded.

I recently wrote a rant, because of a thread made by GJJ, encouraging others to be respectful and help out. I have yet to see if it helps at all, but hey! I tried.

I am happy now. I have an interview on the way, a growing clan, and a large friends list. Life is good.

I had a lot of fun writing this. Brought back old memories. Many fond, many not-so-much. I wish I could've written more, but ya know, character limit and all. But what I really want, is for you to write your story. It may be long, it may be short. It may be well or poorly written. But it's your story, and it matters. So please, write your story.

Mid January, 2002

It was mid January, 2002, a person that my dad told me about just moved in to his new house. My dad was having a party thrown at our house for some tae kwon do hing, I can't remember. Well, I invite the guy to come over to stay and talk with a few of my friends, then he offered to show us around his house. We followed him around, his mom reminding us not to step on the carpet and to stay on the masking tape. He showed us his gaming room, a room I would come to remember. Then, he pulled a game from beneath his Xbox and showed it to us. It was Halo. At that time I never knew what Halo was, but my three other friends at the time did.

We took the game back to the house I was living in, popped it in to my Xbox, and from there I couldn't get off. At first, I was watching my friends play around in multiplayer, and I was also trying to learn the ropes. When I picked up the controller, I was very confused. I was not used to this "left stick walks around" and "right stick looks around". I adjusted myself to it, and from there, I was addicted. The campaign, the weapons, the vehicles, the levels, the multiplayer. Everything was something that I loved.

Almost everyday we would System Link at my friends house, playing basically non-stop. We couldn't help ourselves, the game was just too much damn fun. Most of the time we were playing CTF on Blood Gulch, usually I would start to play around the most, trying to form alliances with my friends in the other room. There were some funny things that happened in those games, sort of like a Red vs Blue kind of thing would happen every so often.

August, 2004

It's my birthday in August, (August 4th) and I never expected that it would take Halo 2 this long. I had moved from where I was before, so I was no longer with my friends. To say the least, everything was changing for me. I was still pretty obsessed with Halo, but not as much as I was before, it's been two years. I'm a patient person at times, and I was anticipating Halo 2. I knew almost everything about it, but sometimes I can be very apathetic. At times I never cared about Halo 2, simply because I felt it was taking a long time. I never viwed Bungie.net for the actual information on the status of Halo 2, just read articles and believed every word they spewed out, which is why I've taken a turn today; those articles on games usually turn out to be bull crap, anyway.

November 9th

Well, the big day has come, the release of Halo 2, the finished project, the sequel to the best game in the world.

Days before Halo 2's release, I requested that my dad pre-order me a copy, as a late birthday present, and also since my mom refused to buy me a game. I was sitting inside just watching TV, when I see my dad's truck pull into the driveway. I was happy, I ran outside quickly, walked up to him, as he gave me the game. Of course I didn't just run off and didn't thank him. But I was so happy to finally have a copy in my hands. Even though school was tomorrow, and it was only a Tuesday, I wouldn't have time to play it, but I said screw it and popped it in the good ol' Xbox. At the time, I didn't have Xbox Live, so I couldn't enjoy the multiplayer as much as everyone else, but I could enjoy the campaign, which, to say the least, was a really great addition to the story from the original, and I mean that.

I was happy with Halo 2, and glad that it turned out so well, which is why I continued playing 'til today.

November 9, 2005

I've told this story before, but only seems to change as I become more detailed with it.

Not much has changed for me since the release of Halo 2. I was still living in my house. But Halo 2 did change. There were new things to know, and many new things coming out for it, or already came out for it. I was anticipating Bungie to put out a huge celebration with the one year anniversary of Halo 2, instead there was an update. It didn't disappoint me. I did, however, enjoy reading it. It was an update talking about what it was like on the release date for Bungie. The Bungie Princess and Frankie both shared their stories, and I became interested. Sushi, huh?

Well, after reading the end of the story, I saw the "Discuss This Story" link, linking to the News section in the forum. I saw all the chatter about the game, and I wanted to get in on it. So, I made an account, first a yahoo, then the Bungie.net member name, and went to New Mombasa first, instead of where I actually wanted to go. I saw plenty of threads discussing Halo 2's anniversary. 'Course I joined in on the conversation. But as a new member, I did, however, feel lost, as if I didn't belong. That's when I finally got well acquainted with some of Bungie past games. Only soon after, I became very fond of this websites' forums and enjoyed the discussion with some of the people here. It's a nice place to come to.

Today

I'm still here, and I'm probably going to be here for even longer. I've enjoyed a lot of things here, as most people that stay do. This place can be almost like a brotherhood, we're always looking out for eachother, but without trying to sound cheesey, or very corny. I would just like to say, this is a wonderful community.

13/02/2005 (I've been on since then.)
Group RPG's!

DO NOT DO IT! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING IT! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT NOT DOING IT!

The past, into current.

Making the first account was amazing, the first forum I joined. 2/13/2005, thats the date. I still remember it... Its near my birthday. I could be one of the youngest members around. My first thread was a bad start, I made one on in New Membosa on Halo 2.5 (Which is just -blam!-.) I found my replies were bad and annoying...

Later on in the year, one of my first groups I joined was The Prophets of Pie. It was a very active group. We called about pie and its many reasons. I may not like the taste of pie, but there's something I like about it.

I saw the flood is spreading thread in the flood. I joined in with an Elite, but found out you could not have an Elite in the story. But someone gave me a link to the story's group, Flood Control. I must say, its been great in the group. Its not as active as it used to be, but I made a hell of a lot good friends. I have a link in my sig.

The best part of my time here is joining OFG though. I am writing a fanfic series called Sangelli. I was the 3rd member to join and have become second in command in the group. I remember that thread... The thread that started it all... (OFG: Official Fanfic group. One of the many fanfic groups.) Sadly OFG was almost destroyed by some guys, but with some luck things are back to normal.

I got my second account in may. The last thing I did with the account was make a thread on about "Who wants to work for Bungie."

Things for me have been up and down.

The B.net Life of JAVA

I began my B.net life as the immature flamer known as Combat form 24. When I began I was only interested in the New Mombasa forums, but as I stayed longer, I got tired of the same halo 2 discussions, so I began going into other forums until finally I reached the Flood. There I found a large variety of topics and people. So I stayed there. The trouble started during the search for a "president" of the Flood, many of you 06er's may not remember this, but the rest of us will. I was involved in that conflict, and before you know it, I was conducting spam attacks and flaming innocent members of the Flood, one day, I was confronted by Lil Shorty, and well, my immature ways got the best of me, I began flaming her and saying awful things. When I logged in the next day, I was banned by Yoozel for 5 months.

Over that 5 month span, I came out of the closet, made new friends, and met my BF. I guess that must have changed my view on life and matured me, because when I came back to B.net, I used a different name, a name I created a long time again, JAVA. I began my new B.net life acting like a girl, because well, it seems like most ghay members do that *stares at l8te*. After my little rouge was over, I didnt lose very much popularity, so my friends still carried on to the new, and the JAVA you all know today. From then on, I became the flamboyantly idiotic, smartass, yet loving JAVA you all know and secretly worship. Soon I became one of the most popular "attention whores" on B.net, which made me a lot of enemies and friends. As time went on, I suffered many blacklists, some for bypassing the filter, some for "spamming", and some for calling myself "ghay".

And well, here I am. I have found that those who use to be my enemies, end up being my friends later on. Some of those same groups who plotted against me and talked behind my back send me group invites. Hell, I am even very good friends with Lilshorty now. I love the Flood and everyone in it, even if you dislike me for my ways, I still cherish and respect you. The Flood's general openess and lovingness is what keeps me sitting here, glued to my chair. And even as I grow older, I hope that I never deviate drastically from this place, this place has taught me a lot, and many of you I will never forget.....*gives hug to everyone*

Kilroy, you came to B.net right as it was moving out of its prime.

I remember I signed up in July of 2004. Pre Halo 2. It used to be so great back then. As Halo 2 was released, the massive influx of new, mostly immature fans began to turn off some of the greatest members here, and now B.net is in its current state today.

I'm not trying to be rude or anything...it's just the truth!
