In the last year I have building a gaming PC and this past winter my Xbox was packed up and my PC has been doing all my gaming. I have to say HL2 and Doom have been a lot of fun but I am in the mood for some Halo again. As soon as I get my MB back from DFI tomarrow from repair I want to start gaming again. My laptop has not been cutting it.

I think the first thing I want to do is buy and get Halo installed. What I am wondering how much different is Halo PC from Halo xbox? Also what should I get for downloads? I want to get multi player going again. I have to say that is what I have missed most I think Bungie has some of the best mulit player around.

Thanks for any tips or ideas and I hope to be killing some of you all very soon. :)

Oh, boy. Where to begin?

First, I recommend that you read this sticky. It has a ton of important information that you should know, such as multiplayer tips, learning how to use the console commands, Custom Edition related content, and much more.

For downloads, you should get Halo Custom Edition. If you don't know what that is, then you can learn all about it here. There's so much custom downloadable content on the internet you can find for Halo.

This is all I can think about at the moment.

Also, welcome to the Maw, and I look forward to killing you very soon. :P

Okay...welcome to the Halo PC scene. The cost of a large pizza with extra toppings will also get you not an orgasmic mouth experience, but about 12 or so hours of campaign mayhem and countless more online hours.

Differences: H1PC, as it's known, has a multiplayer component that's free and easy to play on. One warning, though, it's rumored to be overrun now by aimbots and cheaters. I haven't played in a while so I can't confirm or deny this, but what I do know is that if you know where to look in terms of servers, you'll find a good game regardless. Also, auto aim in the Xbox is nonexsistent in H1PC. Learn to use a keyboard and mouse. And finally, the netcode in the game differs. Even instant-hit weapons like pistols and sniper rifles must be "lead" in front during multiplayer, due mostly to horrible net coding on Gearbox's part.

As for downloads, I would recommend getting Halo Custom Edition, like Kim said up top.

Make sure to aim aheadd of moving targets. This is a MUST. you will never kill anyone (MP only. It is because of latency. (I think...)

Right. Gearbox did a rather poor job doing the port, not only with the netcode, but with its poor optimization for PC gaming.

Welcome to Halo Mac/PC!

I highly reccommend the demo, if you don't already have it. The demo can be found HERE.

As for differences, the Mac/PC version of Halo has added vehicles, maps, weapons, and a PC only add on, Halo: CE (Custom Edition).

New Vehicles:
M12A1 Warthog LAAV (Light Anti-Armor Vehicle)
Found only in multiplayer, this varient of the classic 'Hog features a triple-barreled 102mm rocket launcher. Great for demolishing campers and vehicles, the rocket launcher has a slow reload time, so make sure you're safe when you're reloading. This varient of the 'Hog is also mcuh more top-heavy than the chaingun version, due to the added weight of the three rocket lauchers. Go easy on the turns.

Banshee
An exclusive addition to the motor pool of Halo Mac/PC, the Banshee features two Plasma Cannons and a Fuel Rod Cannon. The Banshee is heavily armored on the nose, and some use it exclusively as a cudgel to ram opponents. Don't forget it has weapons, too. The Bansee is vulnerable to large-scale infantry assualts, .50 cal 'Hog/M6D rounds, Scorpion MBTs, and M90 Shotguns.

New Weapons:
The M7057 Defoliant Projecter is a multiplayer only Flamethrower. The M7057 is unique in that the semi-liquid adhesive it fires continues to damage your opponent after you have stopped firing, inflicting massive burn damage. The Flamethrower is devestating against unshielded opponents, but it has an exclusive close-range role. The M7057 also has a huge splash damage radius, so make sure your teammates aren't in the way when you fire. Also, running forward while using the M7057 is unadvised, as the flames hang in the air, and you can easily inflict burn wounds onto yourself. Get ready for some TOZTn'!

Fuel Rod Gun (FRG)
Similar to the secondary fire found on the Banshee, the FRG fires an arcing, high-exposive radioactive shell. Rapid firing of the FRG will cause the danger of overheating the weapon, leaving the user defenseless for some time. The FRG is very effective against both infanty and vehicles, and due to the overuse of the weapon, the FRG has gained the nickname of the 'noob tube'.

Shade Stationary Turret
A new addition to Halo Mac/PC Multiplayer, the Shade fires powerful plasma rounds from it's three barrels. The muzzle flash from the Shade is so great, the operator may have a hard time keeping his sights on his enemy. While protected from the front, the gunner in the Shade is vulnerable from the sides and rear. An uunsupported Shade user quickly becomes a target for enemy snipers.

New Maps
Gephyrophobia (The fear of bridges)
This Mac/PC exclusive map is similar to the bridges found on the Campaign level Assault on the Control Room, although on a much larger scale. The Banshee plays an invaluble role on this level, as it can access most of the map quickly. The S2 Sniper Rilfe is also quite useful on this map.

Timberland
The second Mac/PC only Multiplayer map, Timberland refers not to the clothing line, but to a large, outdoor forest map. Vehicles and long-range weaponry are very useful on Timberland, but close-range weapons are needed to defend your base.
