I didn't vote anything because the way I see it it wouldn't be bad or good... It would just be Bungie's way of telling the story. If he needs to die for the sake of getting the 'message' across, It's all up to them.
Of course, I would be pretty bummed...

Oh yeah, and most of those choices are pretty redundant.

It would kind of suck because it would definitely put an end to the Halo series. The only way i think it would be cool is if he dies in a blaze of glory to protect all of humanity, and it gave us the chills when it happens in the game, but i doubt he will die.

Wait, you think that if he lives, there's a chance that there will be a Halo 3? Awesome.

If he was to die, I probably wouldnt be able to replay the game because I just know he is going to die at the end. Also, the chief is like an unstoppable machine of pure awesomeness. How can he die?

In great stories, the hero must always die. Why? Because in great stories you care about the characters, and having one character sacrifice him or herself can mess with your emotions once you know them. It makes the story much more satisfying, though.

And what would the Chief do if the war ended? Live happily ever after? I don't think so. He has no place; even if it's not sacrifice he has to die for the story to work.

Maybe he could grow extra limbs and become a man-eating blob.

The chief doesn't die, this isnt the last halo game. Bungie said it awhile back, if i remember correctly. He might die in one of the next games, but as somone else that posted here said, if they need to do it to get the point across, then so be it.

Yeah I have read, though this may not be true, that there will be a third halo game for the next generation of Xbox coming out, which I beleave the next Xbox is called Xenon or something to that extent.

I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you on this one. Maybe that is just because that is the kind of person I am, I don't like sad endings. And like I said before, the Chief has this aura of invincibility around him, he cant die. HE JUST CANT MAN!

A recurring theme in the Last two Halo books written by Eric Nylund is that lives must be spent with a purpose, not wasted. I think he is leading up to an event in his upcoming Halo 2 book. This is how I see the end of the Halo 2 story- John will be if forced to either let Humanity die trying to fight the Covenant, or use Halo's superweapon and continue the Human-Covenant struggle in a few hundred thousand years. He'll choose the second option, and it will almost seem as if the Halo story will never come to an end. The Covenant and Humans will be fighting for all time untill one can stop the other from using Halo.

well, eventually he will die (he cant live forever) and after the covenant all die, where would he go? back to the army to war? no. i'll bet in some other Halo game,he sacrafices himself. or maybe he does something bad and gets kicked out of the army (joking). of course maybe he wont die...how would explain Link from the zelda series? he seems to have eternel life
