I have a Geforce FX 5500 graphics card and it plays other games decently smoothly. However, it has issues with Halo even on the lowest possible settings. From what I've learned the reason Halo plays badly is because of multiplayer netcode issues and poorly written code that makes 2d stuff slow down your computer. My graphics card doesn't handle 2d stuff well as it is. Is there any way I can fix this problem to get Halo to run smoothly? (without buying a new graphics card or other hardware)

It doesn't work very well for me... It can load all of the graphics just fine, the problem is massive slowdown. I have a 1.6 Ghz processor, and that should be enough... but is THAT the problem?

Before I got my GeForce 6600, my 5500 gave me a decent framerate of 25-30 FPS with settings maxed at 800 X 600. But then again, I had an Intel Pentium 4 Processor with over 3.20 GHz.

Download the latest drivers. Although Gearbox did a poor job with the netcode, it has nothing to do with your problem, rather, the fact that Gearbox did a poor job optimizing Halo for PC gaming is what you should be worrying about. Simply just put Halo's settings down so it looks akin to Starfox (not 64) and you should get a solid, playable steady framerate.

Yeah, I wish I had the same hardware as you... Anyway I have everything set to the lowest possible and I get a better framerate on the Xbox... This makes me HATE gearbox...

I have the same card, same hting hapened to me. Run it in 800x600 not 1024x768. That fixed it for me. You'll get abot 25-35 FPS then.

And your 1.6 GHZ processor is probably also the problem.

Hate? Gearbox? Welcome to the club. :/

Yes, that sounds like the problem. Lower your resolution as well. I don't see why people need to have their games set at higher resolutions, 800 X 600 is just fine.

Check your PC of spyware, adware, and viruses. Lower your video resolution. Check for new drivers from the graphics card's website.

Would everyone please stop with the Gearbox bashing? It's not their fault. Gearbox tried to make the game the best they could, but then Microsoft stepped in and mandated certain things. Microsoft told Gearbox to make it so it would work on the lower end cards, and also so it would have 56k support. Since Gearbox was hired by Microsoft to port Halo to the PC, they did as they were told. THAT is why the netcode sucks, things don't look as good as the Xbox, and there are so many graphic problems.

Yes, and not only that, Nebetsu, but if Gearbox was supposed to make Halo better with low-end cards, shouldn't that make mid to high range cards be used more effectively, and not make Halo such a system hog?
