I was just thinking of ways to get the community involved by having more member interaction with each other. So I was wondering: Why not a friends list like what we use on Xbox Live? Sometimes I feel it a hassle trying to find someone to PM them (especially if that person has a weird name, or the people finder doesn't work out for you.)

Basically how it will work is you send someone a Friend Request and you have a list of people that you can access on your profile. You may be able to have the option of toggling it between it being in public or private view. Just a way to maybe help each other know that there are people who care about them.

Of course with every idea comes problems. Here are the ones I've already came up with:

*Friend Request Whores: People who feel the need to have a full friends list at all time so that they look "cool."

*Rejection: If someone rejects a Friend Request, that will lead to an instant enemy being made.

*FR Spamming the Ninjas: I could only imagine there being a race to get all the Ninjas on your friends list. Then if you're ever on a Ninja's friend list, that will give the person a feeling of "I'm his friend, he won't blacklist me."

*Having to Choose between Friends: Should there be two or more people on your list who flat out hate each other, you may be forced with a lot of unnessary drama, like "Why is he on your list? He flamed me, and I thought I was your friend. It's either him or me."

Even though those are some key problems, I feel a friends list may be a welcome addition. Wanna message someone about meeting up for Live? Point and Click. Is there a particular user that's always watching out for you, but you have no way of showing gratitude? Ask them to accept the Friend Request.

I was thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of having 50 or 100 members per list. 50 would probably be better, seeing as how 100 is unnessary (who knows 100 people on here?). It's just a thought, and like all thoughts about ways to improve the community, I brought it to the good 'ol Septagon. Feedback would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Or, the Moderators could be added to everyones list to make sure that doesn't happen. That would also give everyone quick access to PMing them wih something like a bad thread or a user creating problems.

It's not that I don't mind a "Friends List", it's just that whenever this idea comes up, people realize that this would be a way for spammers to know if the moderators are not on. Of course, if this is something we'd have to accept, the moderators just wouldn't accept anybody they don't know.

no, because then people would know when mods are on. the ycould spam the forums when there are no mods.

my solution- mods can only send FRs, not recieve them.

or, it doesn't have to say if someone is online or offline.

Or it could be an option in the settings area.

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

It's kind of easy to tell anyways...if a thread isn't locked when it's supposed to, there isn't a moderator on. I personally think this is an interesting idea, but it could lead to a host of problems which are to large to ignore...right now, or at least until the community actually can be somewhat mature, I think it's better the way it is.

Point taken, but what if it were a "Static" list. Like something that you can only look at, but it won't 'interact' with you?(Like show online/offline status?)

It's just that I notice a lot of people, even "veterans" talking about how they aren't noticed. I just thought this would be a neat little way of showing that you care. A way to help relieve the "anominity" of the site.

So we'll never get it?

i have had this situation for a while in xbox live and shortly here at bnet. my solution? not caring what the 2 thought of each other and simply getting along with eash the way i always have. one of my friends called the other a child r4p3st, but the one being called that is a total a55 to everyone he meets so i dont really hate my friend for calling him that.
i just play with whoever is on and dont care what the other thinks. no need to lose my life over someone elses grief.

and for the mods, you could just not have a friends list or take the link to your friends list and make it go to a page showing the email for tech support, cheating reporting and whatever other emails you guys got (or any other way of contacting bungie)

I have an interesting proposal, what if instead of member since: we get Member online/offline?

of course, only certain members would be given such a privilege.

Shouldn't there be at least one person moderating this site at any given hour?

there should. but becuase people take advantage of so much and suck ups usually just want power, how can they make enough mods to do so? we are here a lot, but most of us dont check every forum even once a day. so we can be mods without any power. simply be nice and ask people to follow the rules nicely (maybe give links or quote rules) and we can make the site as good as we want.

It's pretty close. Most moderators are in the EST central Mountain and Pacific time zones.

But TGP and JAF are from other countries so they are on while the other moderators, and the majority of the population on Bnet, sleep.

but sadly, with about only 18 mods, there are times when no one is on.

Actually, now that I think about it, an Offline/Online list/feature would be pretty convienient. If there were always a moderator on duty.

Being able to see who's on a bungie.net friends list at a particular moment would be pretty cool, in my opinion.

Good idea. A friends list, kinda like Myspace.

No, Bungie should not copy anything Myspace does.

I do agree with a friends list however.

I agree with a friends list, but like you said Iceman, there are friends list request whores out there, who just need to look cool...

Anyway, there will also be people whose egos'll be growing faster than a new born baby.

I think we pretty much manage to cover that right now. Problem is: one mod will have a difficult time handling everything. Still, just because you can't see us, doesn't mean we're not there. We are ninjas after all.

*hides in the shadows*

PS. Everyone who has me on their friends list is sooooooooo cool![/schoolgirl]

Crap. We do?

... ... ... Hmm, I'm having a deja vu.

...Blame it on me for just watching one of those teen movies.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind a friends list. As long as I don't get as many requests as I get group invites.
