Disable xfire and see if Halo CE will start.

Troubleshooting Gathering Exception errors
http://www.halomaps.org/index.cfm?nid=387

"Other Programs Interfering:
Some programs can cause Halo to crash if you run them at the same time. Some versions of Xfire and certain video cards are known to cause Halo CE to crash and generate a "Gathering Exception" error. Before starting Halo CE turn off all other programs; Turn off your MP3 player, Turn off Xfire, Turn off your Instant messenger (AIM, AOL, MSN, Yahoo). Turn off all programs not absolutely needed to run the operating system."

Jake, please. Don't double post and be patient. We're not obligated to help you, you know.

Reinstall it, then try it out again.

no, and thx so much for reviving my post :).
Halo PC and Halo CE are very stable gaming platforms, meaning that the programs do not normally "crash" without outside influence or a problem with your PC. The most common causes of Halo CE crashing, in order of occurrence, is 1) an error in a user created map 2) The interaction with another program 3) outdated or old video drivers 4) insufficient system capability or resources.

The only way to troubleshoot the problem is to remove the variables. Start by 1) removing ALL user created maps from the \maps folder, 2) turning off all other programs INCLUDING Xfire, ESPECIALLY XFire. 3) Updating your video drivers from the manufacturer of your video card to the latest version. 4) Verify that your system meets the minimum requirements for running Halo see: http://www.microsoft.com/games/pc/halo.aspx see if your video card is supported. See http://www.halomaps.org/index.cfm?nid=326 for a list. Read the troubleshooting information in the articles I posted before:

Troubleshooting Gathering Exception errors
http://www.halomaps.org/index.cfm?nid=387

Then see I the game will run. (remember TURN OFF Xire and all other programs)

That is about all anyone can do for you because essentially what you are saying is the same as someone going to a mechanic and saying "my car is broke" what's wrong?

I tried turning off Xfire and I even tried DLing Halo CE again without any user created maps, and same problem, and all my drivers are up to date. also, my computer is way over the minimum requirements for halo, it ran fine before with the same setup. these are my comp specs-

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+, MMX, 3DNow
Memory: 1GB RAM
Hard Drive: 427 GB
Video Card: VisionTek Radeon X1300 512MB
Sound Card: Realtek AC97 Audio
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519)

Well, I'm sorry that I don't go over every single letter typed into bungie.net. excuse me for not reading everything twice. Okay? Is that good enough?

I wonder if the Wolf thinks the Moon listens when he howls at it.

dude make sure you download/install ALL of your drivers again after you reformat.maybe you new hdd has some bad sectors. If you have XP you can do a consistency test and if you get any KB in bad sectors that means that some of your hdd is bad.
