Christopher Reeve, the star of the "Superman" movies whose near-fatal riding accident nine years ago turned him into a worldwide advocate for spinal cord research, died Sunday of heart failure, his publicist said. He was 52.

Full Story

When I first heard it, it couldn't have been true.

Only when I realized the truth, did I want to be lied to.

<33

If I go crazy then will you still call me Superman? If I'm alive and well, will you be there, holding my hand?

Maybe it's just me, but the fangirl inside wants to cry u_u

Heh, people die, it's a fact. Why should a movie star be any different than a regular person? I said "lol" because he never really did much on that show anyways. You say "sad story", well you haven't gone through that much then, because sad doesn't even touch that story. Another thing, you asking me if I want to get beat isn't an intelligent thing to say. Anyone can say something like that. If you want to say something to me, that you think will make me think different about what I said, go ahead and PM me about it (doubtful anything will cahnge my mind though). I don't want this thread turning into something. The way I see it, is if you don't PM me, you don't really care.

I really hate to say this -- and Lacrimosa is going to be mad at me, but I don't mean it personal to you sweetie - don't be too mad....

But - Christopher Reeve was an -blam!-. Before his accident (riding a thorobred horse) he could have given a crap less about all the people he advocated later --He began to care simply because he became disabled himself.

I wish he had done half the work before his accident as he did after, but as it is now - he was a jerk. He was only interested in therapy and cure for himself, and included the other people who shared his condition as incidental.

there's no arguing that he was an -blam!-. but at least he was able to use his fame to spread awareness, even if it was under pretense.

josher....its sad when ever someone dies, not just a celebrity although i didnt consider him one. sad? this isnt sad to you? a man in the rpime of his life gets into a accident making him paralyzied. he then dedicates his life to helping other people and funding stemcell research, he later dies of a heart attack. o of course this has to be one of those comical events you see in the news like homocide or another HILARIOUS DEATH.(that was sarcasm for anyone)

josher i when i said beat i was j/k.

pm you, dude how can you say that when your post only was directed at me.

nice grammer and puctuation by the way.

I'm not saying it didn't do good -- I'm saying that wasn't his obvious intention, and we should cry for all those afflicted instead of one jerk. The End doesn't justify the Means applys here. It's not just Christopher Reeves either, Montel Williams, Michael J. Fox, they can all go to hell. Donate the money and resources when you don't need it yourself , and I'll respect you.

The loss of human life is tragic in and of itself - but don't make it a big deal because of who it was. If people treated him like any other person, well - guess what -- none of us would know, or give a rats ass. He was in the prime of his life? How? He was ever less rich -- not having done anything for large money since his last Superman movie - and UNTIL his accident, was semi-retired due to lack of work.

That accident was the best thing to happen to him - Book Deals, TV appearances -- It boosted his career. He was an arrogant individual, that used the plight of people who were injured by car accidents, building accidents, spinal cord injuries due to events beyond their control to his own end. As long as he was 'advocating' for them, he could search for his own cures. He's an ass who didn't deserve pity.

i wasn't suggesting you were saying it didn't do any good. and i agree with what you're saying. but people tend to become attached to actors because of the roles that they play, not realizing (or possibly caring) that they are nothing alike. the fact that it was Superman: Man of Steel, that was rendered a quadriplegic, didn't help to dispel the pretense that he cared about all the other handicapped people in the world, either. so rather than being mad at people like those you listed, perhaps we should be mad at the people who make them out to be such heroes.

As a whole you can't be mad at the people in general. Celebrity status automatically raises those people a level in 90% of the peoples eyes. It's not the general populace's fault, it's the culture we live in. We have preconcieved notions of what these people are 'actually' like, and imagine ourselves in situations with them. I have a stoner friend that thinks Matthew McConaughey would be his best friend because they both smoke pot. I thought Dane Cook and William Shatner would be cool people to hang out with -- until I talked with Dane Cook and met William Shatner.

These people are just regular people. I love the man who drops 50 cents into the march of dimes bucket more than the afflicted actor that tries to cure his own disease. Why? Because the man doesn't have a personal affliction and is simply doing it to help another.

if 90% of the people choose to be gullible and blind, then that's 90% of the people that i feel morally obligated to be mad at.

I see -- and I don't agree that you should be mad at them -- just their reasoning.

But I DO see where you are coming from.
