Hi guys - good to see you're still doing well. I have a question that will tax your technical minds. I just built a new computer and I was really excited to be able to play Halo with all the settings turned up. Well, that didn't exactly happen (but I'm okay with that).

The problem I'm having comes when I'm moving around a lot in game - strafing moving back and forth, etc. The problem is that while I'm moving, when I go to change direction, I don't change direction immediately - I just 'drift' on my original path and then after about .2 to .4 seconds, My direction change goes through.

Now I usually ping at or below 100 on the server, and I didn't have this problem with my old box. I have a 3800 AM2 X2, 2x512 MB DDR2 in a Dual Channel config, a 6600GT (PCIe) and a Wireless mouse and keyboard (Logitech). The problem seems to get better as I turn down my graphics, but I've got them pretty low right now (low enough for me not to be happy) and the problem still pops up - just not as often and not as noticeable.

If anybody has had this problem, please let me know what you did to fix / help it. I know you guys aren't tech support here (more than anyone else), but I'm calling in a favor. Thanks.

Dude! Long long long time no see around these parts! Thought you were staying mostly, if not exclusively, on our forums.

Glad to have the legendary Inspire back.

I've got the same problem too, but I know the reason is probably because of my wireless setup. You know I've got a laptop that I use with a wireless keyboard/mouse combo, when I use my laptop keyboard, strafing is back to normal. However, use the wireless keyboard/mouse and I "drift" just a tad before stopping. Same with looking. Use the touchpad and I'm fine, but use the mouse and I need to compensate for wireless lag as well.

I suggest using a grounded/wired keyboard. That should fix the problem, if not reduce it.

Sounds like mouse lag. Follow the following steps if you haven't already.

1.Create the command line argument -exec mouse.cfg after your Halo target path.

2. Create a text file called mouse.cfg in your Halo folder.

3. Inside that text file, put the following text:

mouse_acceleration 0

4. Save the file, and play the game. When Halo starts, if you have console enabled, you should see something like "0.000000" on the bottom left.

Inspire, I think it's got something to do with what you're running while playing halo. Some times when I'm running an extra window. Even just opening folders. Although I don't think that's the main reason for that since I also get it once in a while when Halo is the only program running. I'll look into it though. I haven't had the problem recently so I'll see what I can do to actualy recreate the problem.

What? Play a game? FOR FUN???
This concept of fun confuses and infuriates me!

Quit trying to bypass the word blocks. They are there for a reason.

Its good to see you back on The Maw, Inspire.

He did. Pay attention, dude, and work on your English.

I'm pretty sure it's the wireless mouse and keyboard. Get a wired setup, although they're quite cool, I find wireless mice and keyboard unnecessary and sometimes hindering for gaming.

Great to have you back, Inspire.

Hm. This would work for me, but Inspire's problem is actually keyboard lag. Dyou know if there's an equivalent of this that works for keyboards as well?

This was probably a bit before your time, but most older Maw-goers know him as the guy who led the Septagon raid, and tried to initiate a stats tracker for H1CE. All around, a great community guy.

Sucessful Septagon raids, at that.

Again - Leadtek GeForce 6600GT (500MHz Clock / 1000MHz Memory) @ PCIe (true 16x)

The problem is a keyboard lag - I can usually turn and fire just fine. For some odd reason, the logitech program didn't seem to install right on this computer - I mean, on my old box, I can bind the special keys and stuff. I installed them the same way (Not sure if it makes a diiference...) I need to charge the mouse, too (not like that should make a differenc, etiher...)

So first, I may change the batteries in my keyboard and move the receiver around a little. Then I may try to figure out my logitech program.

@ Oni Ryu - I can try that and see if it helps, but like I said (in this post, but not in the original) it's a keyboard phenomenon, not a mouse phenomenon.

I think I'll go out and get a wired keyboard if the problem persists. If you guys get any fresh ideas, please post them.

It's definitely your wireless keyboard. Mine does that all the time when the batteries are low.

I find it helpful to not install the Logitech software that came with the keyboard. If you have installed the software that came with it, try uninstalling it and just plug in your wireless receiver; Windows should easily recognize it as a USB keyboard without the software.

Hm? Septagon raids? Meh, don't remember that, but I remember the stats tracker... a very temporary sticky... I think that it's your wireless, must be mouse/keyboard lag.

My, where have you been? Seems like all the 2005 users are disappearing!

McKeegan has a good point. Every time I installed software that came with any Logitech device I bought for my pc's, I always had strange problems. These prob's went away as soon as I deleted the Logitech software. Like Keeg said, windows should recognize the usb device. You might not get some of the perks that comes with the software, but Halo should work ok.

Good to see ya here man.

Thats a sweet setup!! New pc's are always exciting.

I think that you may have your mouse orientation (there should be like a little right and left thing on the bottom, idk) and maybe that's causing you to drift.

Like I said, it was before your time. Logically, you wouldn't know about it, except that every member of the Maw treats him with respect. He was way way way before your time.

The sticky was there for months. It was removed after I was blacklisted for doing what I had to do to get a point across to the mods while fighting for this forum. When I asked the mods why I was blacklisted, none of them could answer... When I renewed the project back in the beginning of the year, the post wasn't stickied. If anyone wants to pick it up I've got about 350 lines of Java code written and the main algorithm is done. I just didn't see the need after H2PC was announced and I got really busy with RL.

I'll swap the batteries and uninstall the drivers first- I'd hate to have to buy another keyboard.

btw - I've been at Halomapscouk for quite some time. I spent a week or so fighting in the Septagon for a dedicated H2PC forum following its announcement, and nobody there seemed to care. I didn't like what the Maw had become, so I left. Since then I simply haven't had the time to come here. I'm glad to see everyone is doing well, and thanks for the help.

Actually, all of you were wrong - though I can't blame you as you didn't have enough information. Removing my KVM switch has fixed the problem. Thanks again.
