Subject: a way to reduce the group wars?

Hi All,
I have to say right off the bat that i'm not a huge fan of all the rubbish about whos got the biggest group and all the junk that goes with it. So i was thinking that alot of the conflict starts with someone saying "i have x number of members" and someone alse saying "thats crap i have this many members" and so on. So heres an idea that will take all that away from everyone. Why not delete the number of people stat on the group front page? Keep the member lists so you can see who else is part of the group. But if that number was gone the only way people would be able to see how many people are actually in the group would be to manually count them. I guess some people still would but it would remove most of the problem.

This was suggested by GameJunkieJim, also, in the rather long thread about improving b.net, and frankly, i agree with him. Like levels in H2 live, they're a source of grief and should be removed.

Groups flaming each other are stupid and imature and obviously are not very good groups in the first place, let them destroy themselves.

"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

My one and only problem with that is that if there is a way to see it, people will use it. We currently have the member pages (which is used to help admins accept/reject new members, promote other members, or kick out trouble makers). There are a certain number of members per page, and the number of pages are listed (and even then they could count the number of pages by hand if need be). Some simple calculator work, and they have their member count. I only wonder if there is a way to prevent admins from counting the number of members without hindering how admins run the group.

Other than that problem...I wholeheartedly agree with the idea. If there is a way of getting around that problem, I'd definitely support the idea. After all, it saves a lot of people trouble, and makes people's B.net experience better.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

No.

The only way to reduce group wars is, quite simply, for people to grow up.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Exactly. Unless Achronos removes the list of members entirely (which I think would be a very bad idea), the people who think that way will always find something to compete over. Maybe if everyone ignores them completely, they will realize how silly they are and how much time they have wasted, and this whole problem will go away. Or maybe not. However, I don't think it's fair to remove a valuable tool from everyone (member count and a member listing) just because some people are too immature to handle it properly without competing over meaningless numbers.

Keep the member pages private.

I'd say if a group gets out of line they should be broken. Who cares if they have a lot of members, the group should be wiped off the servers if they decide to start a war with other groups. We don't need an internet gang war.

If groups want to have wars then let them. I don't see how it bothers me. I'm still not sure how to fight a war between two groups. I would just leave the group.

Skillet was here and referred to himself in the third person.

I use the member count to see if anybody else has joined or left when I first enter my group for the day...that's it. I wouldn't be bothered much to see it go.

One thing I think would help is not allowing non-members to look at the member list at all...it would stop people from PMing the members and telling them to leave. (which has happened to me before)

Meh...we wouldn't have to be discussing this if people weren't jerks about such trivial things. My point, even with number counters removed...people will find things to bash others about.

This idea is good, however it would make no difference. In reality there will still be people that compete for the sake of competing. There will be conquers who seek to destroy groups for fun. The only way to solve the problem is to eliminate the source. To delete fan group would simply wipe the problem out. However, the out rage generated by this move would cause equal or greater problems within the forums. In addition the slime made up of flamers and conquers would spill over the entire community. Group wars will continue to exist with or with out the number count. People will always find something to compete over. If its not the number count then its the number of member pages. If its not the number of pages then its the age of the group... ect. If all levels of ranking are removed then it will be competing over who can destroy the other group faster. Nothing can be done to reduce the problem that currently exists. Unless you suggest going on a ban spree, and taking out any and all b.net members participating in group war. Of course there would be many innocent good members that would be punished for the actions of their peers. The best move right now is to simply let the groups in war tear and flame each other into ruin. Bringing moderators into the scene would only cause unnecessary trouble. If you let time pass the groups will take care of the situation on their own.

Why not have an "options" button under each members name when they post in the forums.

I agree with this, but change it up a bit. Create group blacklisting. If a groups causes a problem the first time they are held accountable, blacklist the group, which doesn't wipe it out, but doesn't allow any group member access to the group pages either.
Then the next time a group is the cause of problems that is when it gets disbanded.

The only problem with ranks in halo 2 and member counts in groups is the fact that some people are too immature to live with them.
