i don'tunderstand how we can have over 1,000 players on halo, but under 200 on halo CE, if they both have the samemaps, but CE has better graphics, and allows you to use custom maps. what is wrong with you people?

what is wrong with you people?
In short, nobody cares about Halo for PC anymore. It was convenient to play. It provided many hours of enetertainment for a lot of people, despite what some may say, but putting a small amount of effort into helping the original Halo grow was asking way too much of a bunch of immature young children. People would rather use it as a punching bag, because it tried something different. The hardcore fans of Halo for PC converted to CE, then some of them recanted and decided to wait for Halo 2. What we are left with are a scattering of loyal Haloists, more than a few latecomers, and a bunch of NMC/Zanzibar gawkers.

The optimist inside me says it's never too late, but logic dictates that with each passing day, Halo 1 (in any incarnation) sinks deeper into the abyss of yesterday. It's time for growth is done. People are moving on to other games, most notably Halo 2. And while I still hope CE reaches its goal, I have given up letting that hope fester too long. I'll still play CE after H2 is out. I'll probably be the only one there. And if so, here's an encouraging thought. We'll all have CE to ourselves. :) No more troublemakers or TKers... ah well. I'm getting OT. In any case, there's my 2c.

you think well over 5,000 people a day is showing that halo pc is dying?
im reditecting my question: What is wrong with YOU

now since that is covered up, my point was, if we can spare several thousand people on halo PC, why not Ce? it's got everyting in halo PC, besides campain, and So much more, why do so many people play PC at all?

I am willing to admit that I have several things wrong with me, but none of them pertain to my opinon about the state of Halo. I would appreciate it if you kept the personal attacks to a minimum.

RE the 5,000 figure: That would be wonderful if it were true, but I've not seen more than 2500 people playing Halo PC. Ever. Certainly nothing close to 5,000. Now I haven't checked the server lists for PC for ages, since all I play is CE, but you're welcome to correct me if I am wrong. If you are talking about how many people it takes per day to create an average of 1000-2000 players online all day, then I suspect the number is something fairly large, possibly larger, than the one you quoted. That's wonderful, but it doesn't address why they stay with HPC or why people stop playing altogether.

What I was attempting to write above was not an attack on HPC or HCE. I was attempting to explain my view of why we aren't seeing more people convert to HCE. That was your question, if you would kindly recall. I'm very much on the side of HCE. It rocks. The potential is phenomenal. I don't play any other game. But for some reason others aren't seeing that and I was attempting to explain why they aren't seeing that. The most logical explanation is that they are casual gamers and don't require anything more out of Halo than what is already present. Sad, but true.

ok, first of all im sory Leoht, i had a rather bad day.

second of all we are seaking to convert people, that's what this whole thread is about.
5,000 is a rough estimate, given the amount of people entrring and exiting halo PC all day. i doubt anyone stays on it for more than 12 hours :)
finally, i think we alredy have a great way to convert people. the halo 2 maps that are currently beaing polished, and about to go public.

that's all since now i have to go to class.
again, i apoligze Leoht.

I was thinikng about it, but here are my reasons why I most likely won't.

A. It takes to long to download.

B. The file takes up way too much friggin space.

C. A file that large no matter how safe it is could screw up your computer.

Why I would want to download it.

A. It's faster

B. With a halo editor kit I can create my own maps.

C. I can download maps that other players created, wether they're good or not, I don't know.

Heyyo,

I have Halo CE, but the prob is I can't find any good servers around my area.. I'm in in BC, Canada, and all I can find is serves with pings of 60+.. n' that kills my ability since I'm used to 32-47.. I've been trying to change my skills to a ping of 60, but I'm having a helluva hard time, especially with sniping... it seems impossible to me. I do the aim ahead to anticipate lage, but I still just can't seem to hit them. :P

But I have tried Halo CE, and I LOVE how much less that odd falling lag has been reduced.. makes it almost worth the dl pretty much for that.

Another thing that would boost Halo CE's awareness is get at least 1 bungie server converted to CE. or maybe gearbox get one... Cause high pings have been scarin' me off CE (as mentioed above, lol, sometimes I repeat... oh well. 9_9 )

Also, I'm sure if you google HaloCE you'll find sites to get it from. I always get my patches n' stuff from www.3dgamers.com cause unlike fileplanet, I've never been inna waiting line. But I don't think they host HaloCE... try filefront, they're like fileplanet, but usually smaller lineups. ;)

IamWhie, no problem. This is forum land. Misunderstandings happen every day. I probably should have toned my post down a bit, too.

The Walrus,
Supposing someone did use these as excuses:

A. It takes to long to download.

B. The file takes up way too much friggin space.

C. A file that large no matter how safe it is could screw up your computer.

They would be misled on at least two counts.

A - This varies by connection of course, as well as the location that you download from. Forget File Planet. That's the lamest site to download free content that I can think of. There are plenty of live mirrors for Halo CE in the first link in my sig. A more recent site that is dependable is here. But I'll concede the point. For dialup, this file is huge, although not impossible to download. Just get yourself a download manager that can handle broken connections, pause/resume, and download at your leisure.

B - The file, once installed, takes up less than half of what Halo PC takes up on your hard drive. If you have room for HPC, you should have room for HCE, unless you're at your peak capacity storage-wise. If you're serious about downloading and keeping up with new maps, this statement is 100% correct. For a while I tried keeping up with every new map that found its way onto Halo World. I even deleted the ones that didn't work with all gametypes or ones I didn't like, but still my HCE directory is well over 3GB. Even so, it is quite possible to download only the most popular custom maps without significantly increasing your instalation size.

C - The size of a file has nothing to do with whether it can screw up your computer or not. HCE will not screw up your computer any more than will HPC. Period. End of story. Download from a reliable source and you should be good to go. :)

In any case, I'm glad you posted those reasons, because others may be thinking the same way.

Edit: Fixed a bad misspell. -_-

like 6, but i did it over night, so it didn't matter, and also, my internet conection stincks, so it probably won't be as bad for you. from www.download.com is a good way to get it, because sucure download can be paused, and if it is stopped, your file is not lost. ill try to post a direct link
this is as close as i could get:
http://www.download.com/Halo-Combat-Evolved-Custom-Edition/30 00-74 53_4-10292206.html?tag=lst-0-1
EDIT: arghhhh link doesn't work. just search for halo custom edition at www.download.com
