Where did all the human flood come from?

Just been sat here thinking and realised, there's a hell of a lot of human infected flood types throughout halo 1 and 2, but where did they come from?

There weren't that many humans near the first halo ring. I can imagine a lot of the two types (elite + human) on the Maw level, but how did they get to places like the library?

I have no theories on this yet, other than the flood taking dead bodies away to try and improve them in some way.

What do you think?

I asked the same thing, along with the fact that theres more flood than elites and humans BEFORE they were turned into flood. But I'm guessing they move about in the tunnels underneath the ring.

Well if you look in the books, quite a lot of the PoA's crew is taken by the flood. But that doesn't explain after halo 1.

i guess there must have been an infection form attached to the ship( no spoilers) at the end of the game. When Master Chief got to the Covenant flagship( in the books), it must have fed... etc. After in Halo 2, a few must have gone wherever In Amber Clad went to, but I am not sure of this theory?
