If u check the h2 screenshots, spOOky, they show two elites in front of a door carrying purple guns. I believe those are the covenant carbines. Someone please tell me if I am wrong.

I doubt you can dual wield them; they're too big. You can't double wield the sniper rifle. In "First Strike" there are Brutes equipped with grenade launchers. I think that is what the Elites in the screenshot are carrying

There is also a good picture of one in this months OXM, it shows a pretty close shot of th carbine. There seems to be a green 'dial' type thing on top, I think that might be some kind of ammo counter or something. It's also rumored to be reloadable, and scoped. But we'll know more when Bungie lets us know more......sigh.

It will be totally badass I'm sure.

I don't assume what it is, and you shouldn't either. It makes no sense for a carbine to be such an accurate weapon - carbines are generally smaller versions of full rifles (ex. the M4A1 is the carbine version of the M16A1, the AKS-74 is the carbine version of the AK-74, etc.) and therefore are less accurate. They are generally used indoors where the power of the rifle round is needed but the long rifles are too clumsy for use. Basically, carbines are the middle ground between a sub machinegun and a rifle.

i like to highlight the part where you say "carbines are generally smaller versions of full rifles " and just like to underline the word generally witch usually means not always, and also it's hard to tell from the picture but they look a little bigger tham the old plasma rifle.

I read in the new OXM that the Covie Carbine would reload automatically...Does that mean it is projectile-based instead of plasma?

I've seen it, but I'll have to actually use it in game to determine if it's good or not. Speculation about it until it comes out is pretty pointless, so I'm just going to wait and see.

the green dial thing could also be a scoop... i really hope it is just like the BR... i'm not a big fan of covie weapons....

Would it be used to scoop ice cream:)

Seriously the Carbine does have a zoom with a scope and a magazine that reloads.

I hope it is a scope because they need to even it out a little i mean humans have 2 scoped weapons or even more and the covies have like ummm... NONE

They are not grenade launchers. If you go to the updated FAC they will tell you it is the Covenant Carbine, the Covenant equivilant of the Sniper Rifle/Battle Rifle

This is from the updated FAQ:
Q

What new weapons will be available in Halo 2?

A

So far there have been a few new weapons revealed. The Battle Rifle is an evolved version of the original assault rifle and features increased accuracy, a scope, and a slower rate of fire. The SMG (Sub Machine Gun) is a rapid-fire gun that trades a high volume of bullets for decreased accuracy. We have also discussed the Covenant Carbine - an energy based sniper weapon. Also, as you now know, players will be able to wield the almightly Covenant energy sword.

Of course these are others, but we can't tell you about them yet.

The covenant carbine does have a scope on it it is equilvilant to human BR/SR it fires somewhat like the plasma pistol when charged only the plasma flies a hell of lot faster so technicly you still see it coming it just there is nothing that you can do about it. At least that is what I read somewhere I hope it is true that would be cool in multiplayer shot it and the person is like holy crap and then boom ha haha.
