Minor spelling correction, not flaming, just making sure we all know.
Not antiscopic, anisotropic. Again, I'm not flaming. Anyway, my PC (if you can call it that) is housed in something called Qbic. And it says 'Powered by Soltek' on the front. I'd never heard of them either.

yeah, but he might not be planning on upgrading, if he was though, i would almost say just deal with it for 5 months to save that 50-80 dollars (guess), and just get a new pc with vista a dx10 card, and a quad core cpu .)

Uhh, I hope 50-80 dollars is a typo, considering you can barely get video card for that much. Most of the newer cards are designed to run DX10 when it comes out, since a few of them already have support for shader model 3.0. CPU's with multiple cores don't have games programmed to support them. If you intend to play games, dual core or quad core is no good.

Anywho, it's more important to get a card that you are comfortable with. Some people get powerful cards, but aren't down with the heat and noise. You might want a quieter card with somewhat less power, sometimes more. Video cards are built differently and you have to consider more than just the GPU. I could have sworn this was in one of the stickies.

NO, YOU -blam!- IDIOTS.

RAM has little to do with your framerate, as long as you have enough to play the game that you are playing! Video RAM also has nothing to do with it, as long as you have enough.

Framerate is affected MOSTLY by how good your GPU is, and a little bit by your CPU. Here is a good, budget GPU to get right now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814 121216R

Only costs $130 and is garenteed to play halo on the highest settings at high resolutions with a good framerate.

ok when your a noob in this forum, u better shut your mouth and not flame anyone, or u will get raped so quickly by all the other regulars including myself, u never us all caps, espicially to flame with

besides that card sucks in comparison to the cards in its price range, this 6600gt is a similar price with better proformance

but i would recamand a 7800gs, thats if u can shell out the cash

actually
AGP 6800NU>6600gt
PCI-E 6800NU<6600gt

and then even so, spend like 20-30 more and get a 7600gs

ill agree that the 7600gs is the better card for the money, and i did make a mistake judging the differences of an agp 6600gt to wat i couldve sworn was an agp 6800, but wat exactly is a 6800nu, im not fimilar with that model

NU means non ultra, which means it's the vanilla version of the 6800 line. dont ask me why it's sometimes called that since it completly forgets about the 6800gt.

Doesnt DX10 require SM4.0?

I got a Pentium 4 2.8gHz dual core, and it runs fine. Although my antivirus program sometimes maxes the processor... WTF is with that anyway?

  • 08.14.2006 8:06 PM PDT

It means teh Processor is teh suckzors.

Just kidding, it could be spyware, who knows? or something else could be hogging resources. It could be a lot of things. Check the Task manager and look under the "Processes" Tag and sniff out the applications using the most memory or CPU

get a fx5500, i think thats the best pci card u can get, and u do need more ram, another 256 stic will indeed improve proformance nicely, but if u do have agp, then we have some more options, first make sure u have ethier pci or agp

Wrong ImSpartacus. And I do remember that b1tch slap you gave me earlier........*sh-mlap!* This is currently the best PCI Graphics GPU out there.

The best NVIDIA PCI GPU is the BFG-Tech GeForce 6200 256mb OC.

Nope. sorry, it's just how the cards interface with the Mobo that keeps your idea from happening. See here, for SLI. The PC doesn't "really" recognize the 2nd card beyond a display adapter, so Nvidia steps in and codes the 2 cards to be used together. If you want what I "think" you're wanting then someone's gotta step in and code it for you.

DX10's main support is for SM 3.0 and SM 4.0 hasn't been written yet. Though I would think that it would have support in the future.

Simply put, there are many other cards that are better.

I have a nvida geforce fx5200. If u want to buy a decsent grahpic chip for halo 2 get a 7200 is 100 bucks now or 9200 and spend about 400 dolloars.

nope, the BFG 6200 with 256 megabytes of ram is by far the best pci card, the other ones with 128 megabytes are crap and are about even with the fx5500.

people trying to correct people by yelling at them AND then being wrong at the same time need to shut up.

here is the truth: engines can be cpu dependant(source and unreal) or gpu dependant(say something like oblivion or cod2)

of course there are other factors too, like resolution. In low resolution, your cpu determines your framerate since the gpu is starved of things to render, and in high resolutions the gpu can't render as fast as it can get info from the cpu.

About the 6200, I agree wholeheartedly. I recently purchased and replaced an FX 5500, and the frame rates on 800 x 600 with all settings enabled (excluding specular) rocketed from 20-25 to 30-40 steadily. It really is effective.
