Don't ya just love the New Bungie.net? Amazing graphics and sooooooooo much new bungie content. If bungie.net were I person I'd stalk her. Well the uncreepy type of stalking...ok I'll shutup.

BUT nothing is perfect. If you have any suggestions or complaints about the new site, please make them here on the Septagon. Take a look at these questions I've complied below and answer as many as you can:

* Is the navigation system intuitive? If not, then how would you improve it?
* Do you like the page layout? Can you find what you're looking for?
* Are all the links working and going to their proper destination?
* Which avatar is your favorite?
* Do you like the various color schemes and b.net site themes?
* Can you easily read all the text on all the pages?
* Do you have any forum improvement suggestions?
* Is the text markup system easy to use?
* Find any bugs? Or weird glitches?
* What do you really like about the new site?
* What do you really hate?

Please leave only serious site comments only. If you don't like something about the site, explain why. Don't just say something sucks.

The Bungie.net team appreciates your help. Have fun!

yoo•zel- ('yoo-zhul): slang: vb.

Officium quod Fidelitas.

Well stosh man, I like it alot, sure my pc's alittle slow so that messes it up and it'll take it awhile, but over all I like it. Though, I'd still like to have my chapter Founders EDIT power...But that's on the back burner untill all the bugs our out.

The War will wage forever; though with it's fury comes a peace that you will never know here.

I was wondering why none of the chapters' home pages were never altered to have a more... technological appearance. Is this going to be done later, or will all the chapters stay the way they've always been in theme appearance?

That's not a complaint, more of an inquiry. I dont want people snapping at me!

Also, why the 'Halo 2' link on the left sidebar of chapters? Is it going to have huge content updates in the near future?

Yes, I heard from my boss Mr. Sketchfactor that the Seventh Column will indeed recieve a huge update...just not now. Sometime later this year.

# Is the navigation system intuitive? If not, then how would you improve it?
Yes, very nicely done.

# Do you like the page layout? Can you find what you're looking for?
Very easy and decorative to navigate.

# Are all the links working and going to their proper destination?
Not all, yet

# Which avatar is your favorite?
The one I have

# Do you like the various color schemes and b.net site themes?
Yes, very nicely done

# Can you easily read all the text on all the pages?
There's that one BUNGIE icon, the little circle, next to the greeting, that blocks out some letters.(upper left corner.)

# Do you have any forum improvement suggestions?
The little icon gets in the way.

# Is the text markup system easy to use?
Yes

# Find any bugs? Or weird glitches?
At first their were a couple of errors while trying to change settings, no problems any more so far for me.

# What do you really like about the new site?
Halo 2

# What do you really hate?
the damn icon

Is that good? Hope that helps

I like the bottom toolbar, but I think the top one is a bit obstructive. Perhaps it could stay at the top of the page?
I've also noticed that if you go to the Septagon through Chapter Founders that the "Five most recent forum posts" don't seem to follow what goes on here.

Thanks for the feedback. Are you mostly referring to the big Bungie logo in the upper left?

Yeah, I kind of like it how you guys used it on the 7th Column main page. It kinda makes it difficult to see who posted which post. I love how it's animated though.
My biggest compliment has to be the bottom toolbar. It just rocks.

Maybe it's because of my desktop resolution (1024x768) but when I scroll down there is this huge black border on the right side of the page. Get rid of that and make the boards wider. :)

Yeah, Bungie.net is done 800X600. It looks really awesome that way.

Where is the search button? If I were to ask a stupid question how would I check to see if it has already been answered?

Uh . . . by waiting to see if anyone flames you? :rolleyes at flamers:

I'll repeat that request. Is there a search option? If not, will one be added soon? Please? Pretty please with over-shields on top?

  • 04.12.2004 8:12 PM PDT

whoa... so this is what css is like on steriods... a tad too much testosterone for my preference in a companion. ;)

*sigh* ok, shall I be among the first to say something negative about the new site? Why not...

OK, where do I begin. I have a laundry list of minor complaints, most of which I'll just have to get over because they're not important enough to warrent attention.

So in this post, I'll hit on the things that just really annoy me.

The Navigation System

OK, so the nav elements are static in their position. Kinda like frames. I can live with that.

The primary site navigation is at the bottom of the window??? OK... I (like most) expect significant navigational elements to be found on the top or left areas of a page.

Get ready for this one, it's not negative: On most portions of the site, section-related links are found on the left area. That's nice.

That huge animated contraption at the bottom annoys me greatly.
* It's on the bottom.
* It's huge.
* It follows me around like a lost puppy.
* It's on the bottom.
* Like an obnoxious ign advertisement, it gets in the way of the content.
* And to drive the point home... It's on the bottom.

Basically, I can get used to most everything on the site, unconventional as some of it may be. The fact that there is primary navigation at the bottom of the page boils my bottom.

I anticipate someone mitigating by saying that the bottom nav thingy can be made into a smaller bar with the little unlabeled button on the left of it.

To summarize my entire post, if there wasn't a huge static footer, I wouldn't see it as annoying, just different. As is, it's like the head cheerleading proclaiming, "let's do something new and different!"

Expanding on what Chris said, yeah, though I do like the bar that's at the bottom, I'm starting to not like it at the bottom. Perhaps you could make the top bar non-static, and place the bottom one up there, with the mechanical looking 7th Column symbol hanging down into the right hand frame outside the forum?

The amount of topics and posts viewable per a page leaves a bit to be desired. Having only ten is kind of annoying and bothersome. I would have at least twenty viewable per page.

My only other problem is that bar at the bottom of the screen. I guess you'd call it a Navigation Bar, but it's kind of annoying, especially the circle-thingy. I would prefer just a pull-down menu thing, though it wouldn't look as cool.

HOLY STINKIN MOTHER OF A MONKEY'S UNCLE WITH THREE ARMS ONE LEG AND A THIRD NIPPLE!
You guys have definetly out-done your selves now! (that is until Halo 2 comes out) The new B.net is the most beautiful wonderful thing the easter bunny ever brought! and by easter bunny I me the B.net crew. I'd just like to take this time to apologise for ever doubting any of you, oh and Yoozle, i really didn't mean those horrible thoughts about you, I was really just hypnotized by aliens brainwashed by Thor the Norse god of thunder as he was building his tiny corporate empire making hammers and those convenient cusions people use at sporting events so that they don't have to sit on the hard bleachers. Wow and now I just noticed that remaining characters counter, and thats really cool, now I need an avatar, and a REALLY REALLY REALLY cool sig with something to do with ninjas!

but for now I'll use my stupid olde school one:

My only concern is the page scrolling (via scrollwheel) on certain pages, namely the homepage.

Otherwise, excellent design!

  • 04.12.2004 10:20 PM PDT

bah

I, too , am concerned that the site was designed for 800x600 rez. How about a 1024 or 1280 option. I'm running a 1280 width and it looks like -blam!-. All the posts are too narrow. I'll get used to it, but it sucks right now. And there needs to be all posts per page, all posts. Like it was before. And give me back the indentedness. I loved that. And also the ability to see the first message of a thread in its entirety on the threads page would be nice. have it as an option. Customisability was the key to the old B.net.
I like the fact that navigation between the main forums is easy.

I want a forum that's easier to keep track of. It would help if you made the forum topic pages ALOT longer before they are "pushed back".

I agree. I think there should be like 100 topics per page, instead like 15 or something. I do wish the forum would indent, as well. But I can get over it.

Yea I run 1280 as well and the page looks good, but I have run it in a window. But I used to be a mac user, so I'm used to running my apps in windows.

I think I like all of the suggestions so far. First of all, I'd like to say that I think everything looks beautiful. ...Including the nav bar on the bottom and the big Bungie logo in the top left corner. However, I'm gonna have to agree with so many of the others (they've commented in other threads on this too) that they really seem to get in the way.

Maybe you could give the option of placing that nav bar on the left side somehow (I like left better than top). Maybe they could slide it around to whichever side they wanted like they could with the taskbar in Windows. It looks awesome, but it gets annoying when I accidentally move my cursor over one of the options and stuff starts flashing up. I'll also add my name to the list of those who's had it stick a few times. If it goes away for good on its own, great. If not, it would be great if you could fix that.

And that Bungie logo . . . I don't know what to do. I see how you needed to put it somewhere, and you wanted to make it cool, but right now I'd have to scroll up to see a bunch of what I'm writing. It' s usually best for the user not to have to do a lot of scrolling to see what's on the screen, IMO.

And the suggestion of having more posts per page sounds good, as well as having more topics per board page. Maybe you could make this an option. The same could be true for indenting each post (I prefer this--easier to read), if that would be practical.

I feel sorry that I have to bring out any negative comments about the baby you guys have spent so much time nursing now. My natural impulse is to praise you for every little thing. But . . . you did ask for it. :)

Just my thoughts,
Poocho :)

P.S. *lightbulb turns on* Ooooohhhhhh. So that little symbol representing the 7C that Miguel has shaved onto the back of his head . . . that's supposed to be what a Septagon looks like!?!? I guess it does have 7 sides. Hmmmm, that never even crossed my mind. It certainly looks cool. (woot! 7982)
